New to gardening. Started a container garden July 8,2020, with cucums, hot peppers and beets..never did this before, ever, or thought about it until now..of course the cucums' took over...didn't know what we were doing and have since learned so much, like not to plant cucums' with other things in a gigantic pot...lol..but here's the thing...today, Aug 4th, were harvested a cucum!!!couldn't believe it..was so excited..we were not sure if we should have plucked it at the time, but we did and it was the freshness smelling and tasting cucumber we have ever had...then for some reason this video popped up and super excited...thanks for the video

It has been a rainy, stormy day here, in the Pacific Northwest. So, I've allowed myself to sit and watch RUclips videos all day long. I am enjoying a "James Prigioni" marathon and with each video, I'm more and more inspired. We are building our gardens this year based on the Back to Eden style and so it's been so inspiring and educational to watch you using this method. I love how you referred to the water in the cucumber as "living water". I had to pause the video to comment. Thanks for all you do. We've gardened for many, many years but the idea of a food forest and wood chip gardening just makes so much sense and we are moving towards that end result. Thanks again for your videos. They are definitely inspiring.

James P. are you with me? You've got the plants, the soil, and seeds and Sooo much enthusiasm!!! You could teach the whole world to grow veggies! Refuel me !!! Cause my CuCu's (cucumbers ) got week on me, so I finally had to plop them in the its garden. My prayer is that they'll survive the transplant. I put in the potting mix, mulch, and some fish fertilizer, and plenty Leo talk. If I fail, I won't stop there. I just don't know what happened to them...maybe they observed all the nutrients in the buyers pot, in which I purchased them. I do have some seeds in case they die off. This my first year in growing a garden so I'm new as a newborn baby on knowledge and experience in growing veggies. I had carrot nightmares because so many grew so close together. Having to separate them was worse than anything imagined! I don't like wasting things, but I realized I would loose some of the babies. HELP in Houston. Thanks again for encouraging people to become producers, not just consumers. Now let's GO!! :)

Hello Kyle, I hope you are doing well. I planted my first ever garden this year. A simple 4x8 raised bed. Got the plants in around mid May. June 10, I got a CT scan and was told I have a small mass in my right lung, surrounded by several nodules, as well as a smaller one on my spine. The diagnosis is unofficial until I have a PET scan and a biopsy but every doctor who saw the scan thinks these are likely malignant. Now my garden, and my whole life, looks different. I too enjoy being out by my garden now, and it really does feel therapeutic. I just put a chicken wire trellis in for my cucumbers the other day and my tomato plants are growing like crazy. I'm looking so forward to harvesting. If you've read this far, thank you. God Bless!

Thank you for encouraging people to grow our own food. Ive Been desperately trying in northern Florida, but its a huge challenge I never expected when moving here 4 yrs ago. We have been adding wood chips, leaves and pine needles just out of pure frustration to keep the moisture in and feed the garden in a less expensive more natural way. Your videos have been inspiring and encouraging while others keep telling us to give up. We keep fighting the fungus and heat for a crop that someday we can actually eat before the bugs do. I just picked my first pickling cucumber, not that I will pickle it, but its the only thing to survive this year besides a handful of cherry tomatoes and 5 green beans due to blight, bugs, bugs, bugs and more bugs. Keep sharing! 😉
Ps I love your berry garden!

This is the first year that my cucumber plants are actually producing anything and it’s only after I put shade cloth over them. I always hear that the garden needs direct sunlight, but...before shading them, an hour in direct sun had them wilting. I’m hand pollinating since the bees don’t seem interested...a hive of bees took up residence in my unused compost tumbler, but are only flying around the mint. Gardening in central Texas is challenging! I WISH I had such an abundant harvest!

Wow! So many things I didn't know about cucumbers! So cool! This is my first year as a proper grower with proper garden beds, and I have completely thrown myself into it. I really went overboard, and I am loving it- both learning and doing!
I'm growing Whopper Cucumber from Chef Jeff's, and from Baker Creek I have Chicago Pickling and Dragon's Egg which are so cool! Everyone finds them so intriguing! The Whoppers get 8-10" long and nearly 2lbs! And never bitter! It makes me so happy to have run out of room in both vegetable drawers! All three varieties are so good by themselves or with some dip or dressing, but I'll get to pickling the second I get my canner and jars back (post-breakup property division nonsense *eye roll*). Should be this week!
Your idea of planting the cucumbers as the spring peas are finishing up is really smart. I'll be working on my timing with successive planting as I go. Radishes interplanted with carrots is something I wanted to try in the fall, but you've reminded me I need to look into more ways to maximize my space and time.
I just love your videos. You really inspire me with each one. I can't wait to be on my own land soon, and the first thing I'll do is pull up your videos and get to it, laying down contractor paper and hauling in the wood chips.
Then I'll get the baby fruit and nut trees in, since they take a while to produce.
Would you recommend putting animals on the future garden spot before putting the paper down? Like chickens or goats? I likely won't get animals right away when I get on my homestead, but I can borrow some to eat up the grass and put down some poop-trients. (Haha, I just made that up; Sorry. 😌)
I'm not sure if putting the paper on thick, full grass is more beneficial for this system in some way, like maybe it draws in the worms quickly for their vermi-tilling (Just made that one up too! I'm on a roll! 😆) and amazing living castings?
I wish I could show you my garden; I think you'd be impressed with what I've done my first year.
Thanks again for doing what you do. Permaculture is quickly becoming my new main jam, and you make it look cool. Not just for smelly hippies. 😜

Hi James! Funny you should put up a video about cucumbers. My own little Philadelphia third-floor-deck urban-food-jungle is really taking off and I’m particularly amazed with the cucumber vine which wants to go everywhere! It is already producing the most delicious, fresh, crunchy and flavorful cucumbers I have ever tasted in my life. Also, the zucchini is going crazy already and it’s only June 26th! I gave some of my first harvest to my neighbors across the street and they were astounded I grew this in the city in a townhouse!! I can’t believe I went so much of my adult life without gardening like this. It’s such a joy and there’s always stuff I want to do in my garden. I have a dog, too, who looks a lot like Tuck and he loves to help me “do the leaf count“ (as my father who is in the Park Service used to say). Thank you so much for inspiring me to sprout where I am planted. The city is no obstacle to growing food and I and my garden are living proof of this. It’s empowering, fun, and a great way to help the planet. Thank you!

I just got my first cucumber today out my garden and was like ‘wow I can’t wait till the other ones get this big (medium size)’.
Lol now I know to pick the others.
Question: you said the male and female flowers. How do you know which is which? I haven’t seen lots of bees.
Thank you for your video, keep up the good work:)

Excellent presentation! This is my first year of doing cukes and I am treading lightly. Last year I was doing pickles from Walmart (yuck) and the local farmer's market. The ones that were locally grown did kinda OK, but probably because I did not do enough homework. This time off to a pretty good start and only doing pickling cucumbers. So far so good and ALL of your tips are helping me get a good crop. Since we are in a rental home, NO BACKYARD DIGGING! This is my 3rd year of using Walmart "grow bags", the 50 cent blue ones. Now my plants are ready for basic training. I have had lots of info/tips from RUclips and friends and I must be doing something right because those cute little yellow buds are popping out, Thanks for your expertise!
