Obviously you're professionals and your skill level is at a point where even minute setup changes make a difference. But from my own perspective as a rookie racer its crazy to see what lenghts you guys go to to get the perfect setup. I love it!
I ran some shimano fishing line off my seat post and wrapped it down over the head tube to help me line up my works angle set. Honestly I'm not sure how much better it is than freehanding it, but it feels good and gave me a bit more confidence in the accuracy.
@@MGMAlternative Sorry if it came off like I was trying to 'splain something, you folks know what you're doing a million times more than me, I just took Jesse's "let us know how straight it is in the comments" joke a bike too literally haha.
Can't wait to see the follow-up vid with the ride results! Reach is something I'm struggling with at the moment ( should I go longer, the same or just a lil longer? ) be interesting to hear your thoughts when you're done! Noice!
So changing the ride 9 also changes progressivity of the shock. So if the measurements now feel money and the suspension feels off do you go back? What's more important? And was this all done before fox showed up for dialing? Really enjoyed the tinkerin!
The most important thing is a bike that feels comfortable for me to ride and gives me the confidence to go faster. So I will go back if I don't feel those things on this set up. This was done before Fox Dialled.
man this was awesome! I did however just smoked some Mary and all i was able to do was laugh at the crazy amount of numbers Jesse was throwing out there with a stoners grin to match haha definitely gonna have to watch this one again when im sober
I love the way Miranda was impressed with the number crunching at the end...... not !! I think you could do with a European tape measure that has imperial and metric on it. I cant wait to see if it worked out for because it looked very complicated
Interested to see how this turns out. I'm the same height as Jesse and on a long reach medium enduro and experimenting with short stem and extreme backsweep handlebars. Hopefully gives more control rather than just freight train like usual. Bikes are so long now. Keep up the great content 🔥
@@MGMAlternative i am also same height on a medium frame and have the same issues...i had the same headset angleset but i don't like it...i was thinking for the same reach angleset but is really agly,,🤭🤭🤭
@@ioannisginis147 I'm having good success so far with a 35mm stem and a SQLAB 16 degree backsweep bar. I used the book "Dialed" by Lee McCormack to help bring my measurements in line. Might be of interest. For reference I'm 172cm on S3 Specialized Enduro which is 464 reach stock
Any chance you'd share your before and after numbers for reach, WB, front center? Coming off a super long bike to a smaller one as I felt my arms were way too extended during a lot of my riding so interested to see how the changes affect you. All the best.
@@MGMAlternative thanks for the reply. Familiar with the flop of the wheel. Used to that sensation now. It’s more I feel my range of movement fore/aft with the bars is too limited as I’m starting in a position that is too stretched out. 480 reach on a Medium. Too much. Too much.
Love the approach to your tweaks. I'm still learning to ride better and faster, never mind in a position to know when I'm at optimum settings. I do like to experiment though, and videos like these help confirm that I'm on the right track with tweaks, albeit maybe in the wrong direcion. At 195cm tall I find that I seem to be looking for more stack and reach on an XL frame. Just went for 50mm Riser bars, and longer (70mm) stem with 8 degree rise to achieve more stack and a bit more reach. Time will tell if that works, but so far every change I made seems to make me more confident with the bike handling.
Run a mason line from the seat tube for aligning cups, also try freezing your cups and bearings for an hr before install, they shrink and slide right in if you're quick.
Be cool to see how it works out! Could you lengthen a small and add an angleset top cup? My -1 degree works hs is only offset at the top cup. Fork race and bearing race accept a little tilt
If it makes you feel any better Jesse 1mm of stack height is a noticeable difference for me. I think small changes to getting bike fit just right could easily result in gains on race day, or maybe even just saving that one "almost" crash.
Definitely! Changing 1mm of stack height is something we generally do when if a new racing venue feels a little off to us, I usually just go off what Remi does because he is super in tune with his stack height and when to change it.
@@MGMAlternative Really? There are whole channels devoted to drinking... I did enjoy it, even if the 40 years of bike wrenching and tool collecting made me cringe at times... ;-)
I think a shorter stem will change how the bike steers, it will be a quicker for the same input. Like for like, shortening the reach with the reach adjust headset would be the best way to evaluate/isolate a reach change by itself.
The reach adjust does allow to bring the whole bike shorter, the reach and the wheel. Which, like commented below, doesn't affect the steering feel. Changing the stem is a quicker, and simpler fix for a long bike, bit it will affect your cornering more.
Wait... the head angle is a frame measurement. Not a fork measurement. Just saying. And that little bit of extra grease inside the steer tube is for on the trail. Do you even Enduro? OK it looks like you do. That's chill.
@@MGMAlternative I've always understood it to be a frame measurement taken off of the head tube. Forks can have drastically different angles compared to the head tube. Think of an old Rock Shox Mag 21 where the axle is in line with the fork tubes versus the Judy which came with an axle offset. Perhaps I've just been wrong all these years?
Sorry guys bcause this is off topic, I need your expertise with forks :) I bought a new 180mm fork and even in the parking lot, the moment I turn the handle bar a little bit to either direction it feels like the fork just wants to turn the handle bar all the way. it's as if I have to fight against the fork trying to turn the handlebar all the way, and make me go OTT. Have you experience that feeling with new forks? Thanks a lot, I know u have better things to do that answering questions from noobs
is your new fork longer travel? Longer the travel = longer fork, which means your front axle is further away from your steering axis which is going to accentuate that feeling. It is related to your head angle.
As Scott mentioned below, what you're describing sounds like 'flop'. Which happens with a slacker bike, if your bike was made around a smaller fork then it's possible you are just noticing the slacker head angle caused by the longer fork.
@@MGMAlternative Thank you both for your reply, I understand it now :) But in this case both travel and offset are the same (180mm, 42mm). The bike is a Nomad, I had a 2017 Lyrik and I bought a DVO Onyx SC. I guess I just have to get used to it. Thank you guys!!!
