- "Ay, Carmela!" is a song originating from the early 19th century, initially performed by Spanish soldiers during the War of Independence against the French invasion (1808-1814), and later taken up by both sides in the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), under different names. The melody was also adapted by the Falangists and Requetés as "Por el río Nervión". The original song has more than ten stanzas. On the other hand, "Ay Manuela" tells the story of a young Catalan woman who, during times of war, becomes a symbol of resistance and bravery, helping others in the mountains, which makes her a legend of courage.
Woah, didn't know there was a Finnish version, amazing
Spain: Oh, Carmela!
Finland: Oh, Manuela!
Good song
Nice rendition
The best thing about these songs is that they are copyright free, so everyone can use them and play them in their own way, and sometimes the other versions are better than the original.
