Hello! Yes, first disconnect the negative terminal from the battery then you start removing the seats.

Only if the 2018 were this easy I can't get the E torx bolts out of my 2018 mazda 3 gt hb. any tips? 5 of the 8 are stuck in and now stripped.
so there is no need to disconnect the battery first?
If your seats don't have any connectors going into it (airbag, heated seats on MS3, power seats MZ3/MS3) no need to disconnect the battery. If they do, it's best to disconnect the battery for safe measure but not 100% necessary if the car's been sitting for a day or so.

Always tighten till the bolts snap or are rounded

I am pretty sure that is a vent for the rear passengers (heat/AC)

Ive been told if you dont remove the negative terminal of the battery the airbag will go off.
It won't necessarily activate, but if there's some kind of short or something when removing the airbag sensor, then the sensor can get messed up.

What about the seatbelt
They've replaced the standard hex with some weird, possibly proprietary, 6-point external star spline type head. I hate them.
I used a 10mm socket with a 1/2 inch breaker bar to loosen them. On a Chris Fix video, he said to disconnect the negative battery terminal and let it sit for 20 mins to discharge any capacitors.
