- Maya, Itay, and Omer were taken captive by Hamas on October 7. They were initially kept together in the same house. Maya describes being treated at the house for her leg injury without painkillers. “The pain is unbearable, but you can’t scream.”
She was later separated from the others and taken to a hospital, where she met Guy Iluz, an injured Israeli captive who died from his wounds. Despite a joyous homecoming, where Maya and Itay were reunited on their release, they say, “It isn’t over yet. Omer is still there.” Hear their testimonies about their experiences in Hamas captivity.

Heartbreakingly sad, Maya formed a bond with him, and hearing her story, we too formed a bond with him. I was shocked to hear he passed away. I really thought he too would have got home to tell his parents he loved them. RIP beautiful man. The bravery and strength of these people is unbelievable. How incredible and inspiring that they were always thinking of their fellow Israeli. Maya giving strength to Guy and Guy giving strength to her. Such selflessness in a horrific situation. I’m glad Maya was with Guy in his last moments of life and to know that a young woman he barely knew was loving him as he took his last breaths of life. Hopefully that will give Guy’s family and friends comfort that he wasn’t alone. I wish he could have been saved..

I am a very soft-hearted person, but I find it very hard to feel the same level of sympathy so many around me feel for the Palestinian people. The fact that there are no outspoken Palestinian voices crying for the release of the Oct. 7th hostages. In the videos showing the hostages being dragged through Palestinian neighbourhoods, being spat upon and physically abused by civilians, that not one single person spoke up and said, "Stop, that is not right, you are being bullies against a defenseless person." My heart simply cannot find the empathy it usually does, because I am finding it hard to believe there are innocent Palestinians.

I can't even tell how many times I've broken down crying in the last 2 months and I didn't even have to go through it but the heartache is overwhelming. These poor people have seen and experienced too much. While I'm sobbing at the horror and trauma they endured, they seem almost disconnected from it.
It's like they've stopped expecting to be treated as human beings with the right to live long and peaceful lives because this trauma is thousands of years old for them.
