      He's suggesting the complete reliance on technology for payment, and the elimination of actual currency would be a serious problem if the systems that support digital payments fail. People love to laugh this off as hyperbolic conjecture, an over-the-top suggestion, yet these things have happened in our past. Two world wars in the past century, countless smaller yet equally as deadly regional wars. The next war will be waged, at least in part, technologically with the goal of taking down critical systems and infrastructure to disrupt the enemy as much as possible - to get the enemy's citizens to pressure their government to capitulate.
      This is why people that prepare for short and long term disasters/emergencies keep cash and other physical goods/commodities on hand just in case. The lemmings running around with a bricked, useless cell phone in such a scenario are in deep doo doo to put it mildly.

      5. people can pay for clothes, food, bike ride, rent and utility bills using WeChat and alipay, the two main smartphone payment platforms
      6. because most of Chinese people have never used a credit card. They went straight from cash to mobile phone payment, skipping the step in between. it only took three years
      7. you simply scan a QR code to pay. you can pay at farmers market, a musician on the street or even a homeless person
      8. Everyone uses it, from the largest cities, the fanciest hotels to the most humble streetside shacks
      9. payments in the US are mainly made by cash or credit cards which means that china is much ahead of the US, which may have a little bit of caching up to do.

      But it is hard to use it in small shop. If you're a shop owner and want to accept NFC payment in your shop. You have to get a NFC receiver and you're actually accepting credit card, so the bank may charge you for every transaction.
      Now if you want to use QR Code payment like WeChat or Ailpay. All you have to do is setup an account by your phone. Find your own QR Code and print it out. Stick it somewhere near the cashier. Then people who buy things from you will just scan it to pay.
      You can even save the money to maintain the equipment.

    • @jkjkjk100
      @jkjkjk100 6 лет назад

      quick correction. samsung pay doesn't require NFC receiver but still requires a regular credit card receiver. QR is technically much simpler implementation...

    This is a nice piece, but not indicative of the truth. I have lived in China as an Expat for nearly 8 years now. Cash is still plentiful. We use Wechat Pay and AliPay for convenience, but in no way is this a cashless society in the least. In the countryside outside of the large cities, cash still rules. Everyone in the cities takes virtually both without hesitation. If it is spendable, they take it. It is a solid capitalistic society. They scan your QR or you scan theirs. It's faster if they scan yours because then you don't have to type in numbers and authorizations.

    from cash to cashless is pretty easy when u don't waste time testing the system for possible dangers and exploitations before implementation. China plays fast and loose with a lot of things and not just money. 90% of their exported products are sub standard garbage due to poor product quality regulation. they still make a profit in poor countries where merchants with no ethics sell that trash at prices only slightly lower then properly controlled quality products making obscene profits in the process. but people still buy them to save a little money. cashless economy was first implemented in Singapore and Taiwan who had time to iron out the kinks. but China jumping the gun only means it will be a rough road for them with a lot of CCP cover-ups of fatal mistakes.

      Yes and the USA is racing to catch up. They beat us to surveillance, now we have cameras watching our every move. Now they have gone cashless and can exert TOTAL control over the money system and we are racing to do the same. Use cash. Refuse to shop any place that won't allow you to do so!

    It's coming to the Philippines as well. The smallest stores can facilitate cashless payments.

    In this clip they forgot to mention one key element. Cashless revolution was possible because smartphones are really cheap in China,so pretty much everyone can afford one. Previous is not possible everywhere.
