You have to start the unit in an inch or so otherwise for example you can't start the unit in 3/8 of an inch because it needs to get "started" so to speak with the vortex.
If anyone is considering buying a pump like this I can advocate. I have a barracuda 1/4 hp pump like this I picked up at Menards for $51. I had about 1,500 gallons of water in my basement, used this pump and in about an hour it was gone. Super easy and maintenance free. Just screw on the hose and plug it in. It will turn on automatically and turn off automatically when the waters gone. It is well worth the price. These put wetvacs to shame.
Sorry, this may be a dumb question but can this be completely submerged under water, right up past the electrical cord going into it ? It would be plugged into a GFCI. Thank you.

did you notice right out of the box it feel like there is liquid of some sort inside pump? wondering if that's a common thing right out of the box? oil of some sort inside maybe?
QUESTION regarding hose type: Have you ever tried using one of those Expandable Water Hoses with these pumps? I'm getting tired of getting kinks in my typical garden hoses and was thinking about using the Expandable Water Hoses instead...but I'm not sure if those work well for the lower water pressure from these utility pumps. Any insight would be much appreciated.
I just bought this pump for the first time and I bought an extra garden hose but I was wondering the same thing because I have two of those flexible expandable water hoses so how did it work for you did you ever try it? Seems like a logical thing to use would be that instead of a normal garden hose🤷🏻♂️
@@TAZ0300 I ended up deciding not to buy an expandable hose. Instead, I just bought a good "Kink-Resistant" garden hose for it....and it works fine....not a single kink yet. The reason I passed up on the expandable hose configuration is because I didn't think there'd be enough water pressure to expand it. Woulda been a pain it the butt to manually stretch it out and rig it to stay expanded during use. If I already had an expandable hose lying around, I would have tested it out...but I would have needed to buy one. So I'm just fine using the Kink-Resistant hose that I bought instead. Sure, it cost a little more than typical hoses, but totally worth it.
I bought mine tonight, ran it for about 5 hours to drain 8” water in my basement. When I went down i have an inch or more still there but the pump is shooting water put the side?? Nothing in the manual cover this.

That's fine, when they say dirty water for pumps they mean big chunks of debris. Or lots of saw dust, wood chips, some pumps are not made to pump that, they clog easily.

No, you must plug it in to turn it on. It's a temporary use pump for removing standing water. You would want a sump pump with a float switch if you want it to turn on and off by itself.

You can't , only way is to unplug , you can find other pumps that have on/off switch but it must state that in big letters of the box or description

No, this is a clean water pump and will clog with debris.

As long as the bottom inch of the pump is covered in water it will work fine.

bought this to drain the 10k gallon pool and it's been 24hrs and the pool isn't fully drained yet. It say 1600GPH but that clearly isn't true.
1600gph at 0 inches of head and a full width hose. That goes way down as the head increases and smaller hoses.

unscrew the strainer cap on the bottom with the three screws, then clean out the blocked holes as necessary to restore flow.
