I'm on the side of the road learning this rythym from Patato I've been listening to since the mid eighties the heel toe to the single was the missing piece thank you Edgardo from Kauai Hawaii
Adelante.
I just purchased my first set of Congas & this is my go-to guy he is so patient and Mello I have a long way to go and Edgardo will take me there. Peace through Music.
So glad to see you back and I hope you will be posting regular videos again. I started my journey of learning structured Afro-Cuban rhythms about six months ago, and your videos have been a huge help. Now I just need more of them!
Good evening Edgardo, thank you for this wonderful video. I spent a good three hours trying to get this down tonight. I'll probably spend the next month committing at 2 physical memory as well as my mental recording of it. Your detailed instruction is much appreciated. Hope you're safe and well. -Gerry
Hey Edgardo, nice video! Thank you for making this video available on RUclips! I'm just getting back to playing my congas and I've always wanted to learn Patato's tumbao. Thank you again my brother!
Awesome video hermano - gracias. That open tone on the upbeat would definitely wake up the dead 🙂 - so funky. As a salsa dancer but a newbie to congas I really appreciate your videos. Cheers
Could you do a lesson on what each type of drum is (I.e. conga, rumba, bongo, etc) what is a fair price for each type of drum, is the price with the drum heads, how much are heads, how are they installed, how are they tuned ? And any other relative information you deem important. I would like to start learning each of these drums/rhythms, etc. thank you, it is nice to have found someone who truly knows how to teach these great talents.
To clear the confusion:The original LP factory was in Palisades Park NJ. They then moved it to Garfield NJ). These towns are right across the Hudson River from NYC. Not to be confused with Palisades NY-a town in Rockland County about 20 miles north of NYC. One Love
Thank you for the break down . .thats one of my styles of patato...for me it just came out naturally . .but there is always space for learning from others . .Dios te bendiga ! . .question > where did you get those congas drums skins ??
Thanks for your comment. The conga heads come from a percussionist and instruments make in Colombia, his name is Billo Quiñones, and here is his FB profile link: facebook.com/billo.quinones. Buena suerte.
My friend you’re awesome and very helpful. You were referred to me by Eric Perez but I’ve been following you off and on for a while. I appreciate your knowledge and it’s help me become a better percussionist. I’ll continue to follow and supply you my brother.😎🪘
Original 1974 made in Palisades NJ in 1974. Some of the lugs have been (obviously) replaced over the years. I didn't buy this drums in 1974. I bought them about 3years ago from a friend that knew I was in the market for this drums. Thanks for asking. Enjoy the videos!
Suerte !
Wedeyamusic, I did tune this drums by ear right before the lesson. (-:).... However, middle "C" note for the high conga, a 3rd and 5th below for the other two drums is a rather common interval, but I am not sure if thats what this drums were tuned to on that day, because I did not use a piano or a pitch fork or tuning device. I usually tune by ear to my liking. Thanks for watching!
H Carl, Kona (my dog) is a mutt, probably Doberman and Pit mix... She is about 5 years young now, and she is the sweetest dog I ever had, and I had many, she was a "handful" as a puppy (over active, anxious, etc)... It is just her nature, but I work with her, and stuck to her, and she trained me too! (LOL) .
sigh, as far as learning, if we do not sing the clave - it is very hard to get it right. people that grow up with the music - no problem. haha ! i am an "American " ... correct is " there is more than ONE way to skin a rabbit . " ps . i spent 3 months in Montevideo practicing Candombe - barrio sur. I have been here in vilacabamba, ecuador for 13 years and i now play on our " Salsa Night ". best to you.
Hi Ras, thanks for your comment. This video and ALL my videos posted are for beginner or (some) for intermediate players. What I teach on this videos is for students to have some basic skills on this type of grove to expand. All I play and teach is taught my way, and played my way. There are plenty of Patato's videos out there for you to further investigate. Good luck on your drumming progress.
Best teacher on the web.
love the way you teach Edgardo slow and with patience. all in a class of its own, and humble. . may God give you many good years on earth..
Thank you for watching!
Great video...thx for sharing
Excellent instruction and your teaching style breaking it down by the numbers and following the clave makes it very easy to understand...Thank you

Great idea! I'll bring it up to Edgardo.

Thank you Sir.
Thanks for watching!
Were those drums made in 1974 or were they recently custom made by LP in the 1974 style?

Gracias por el video. Una pregunta: Cuando la conga se afina en C, quiere decir eso que esa C es middle C, como se dice en inglés?

How much for the T-Shirt?
Son clave or Rumba clave ?
Usually, Son Clave 2/3... But Rumba 2/3 would also fit... Thanks for watching and your comment. Pa'lante!

Hi Dance Papi, why play the tunes your way, why not Patato's way or style.
