I was born in Nicaragua and went to visit last October for the first time in 36 years. My family who lives in Managua explained to me how everything worked out there with the justice system so I was not allowed to drive and they drove me everywhere and ensured no one else knew that an out of towner was in town due to extortion schemes. I'm glad your family is doing okay and away from there.
This is the most emotional video yet. Your surgery by. yourself, the difficulty in getting to and from the police station, the bag change, Greg wanting to help your husband as soon as he got out himself... I am so sorry that you and your family have experienced this trauma.
Oh Alison my heart just aches for this arduous journey! The stress, the pushbacks, the fighting for your health you had to endure. Your husband, your children and your parents and in laws how much you went through. It’s good to see you home, but I know it was hard fought for. Thank God for the strangers that became friends and advocates for your family 🙏
You are so resilient to have had the surgery at such a difficult time. I can't even imagine the stress or what your husband had to go through at this time. You look well, and I hope you have a healthy recovery.
Your story is absolutely incredible! And I am not adverse to any level of TMI. You just say anything that you feel is needed to be said. Much respect from Southern Ontario! ✌🏾
Wow this is quite a traumatic experience you've been through. One nightmare after another. I don't know how you made it through but I'm glad you did. Thank you for sharing. You could write a book based on this! I'm so sorry you had to go through everything you did.
I dont know how you had the strength to go thru all this im in total awe! I think its great youre explaining the surgery and afterwards bc it could help prepare someone in the same situation. My hubby has crohns and this has come up before knowing if things got really bad it could be an option. I think youre amazing Allison!! 🥰 Hope you heal up fully very soon and have much better days ahead! 🤗
I have been so tuned in to your story since the first video randomly was on my home page and every time you release another part I’m just in shock that other countries handle things as poorly as they do. You are such a strong woman and getting through that surgery without your husband is a HUGE accomplishment on its own. But the way you support him and stay by his side no matter what is so beautiful and I really am anticipating the resolution of what happens!! Thank you for being vulnerable and open and sharing this with us. It makes a difference in so many ways and totally brings awareness to multiple issues. ❤
You people are so insensitive. She’s retelling a traumatic event and doing the best she can and you’re complaining about wanting an hour long video? Oh please…
Let’s break this down 1) life turned upside down out of NOWHERE 2) children now thousands of miles away 3)husband is corruptly and unjustly jailed 4) family at mercy of prev mentioned corrupt and unjust system in a foreign country 5) due to major expenses, I assume money is hard to come by but constantly in demand 6)Allisons auto immune illness kicks into high gear (after being symptom free), causing extreme illness, extreme pain, extreme bleeding, extreme discomfort and likely embarrassment with taxi drivers, etc…7) Allison has surgery to relieve symptoms but now cant sleep, has major arm pain that is worse than her incision from surgery 8) Allison gets chest congestion and a cough, and cant clear her throat or cough to clear her throat, making her feel like she is suffocating, adding to her anxiety and discomfort. Damn…any ONE of these things, seriously, any ONE would be awful, just awful.
Still at the edge of my seat. It’s a terrible story, but can’t wait to hear more and how it plays out. I’m so sorry you had to go through such a major surgery, in a foreign country, with your husband in jail, and your kids leaving the country for their first solo plane trip. Any one of those things on their own is an intense amount of emotion. I’m not surprised you flared, and feel so bad it led to surgery.
Thank you for continuing to share your story. I’m sure that it isn’t easy. As a nurse, my heart breaks for you, after hearing you describing your symptoms and having to make such a difficult decision of which surgery to have, in a strange country, isolated from everyone, including your husband.
@@allisonsjourneyI am. Slowly but steadily . I have to remember to be kind to myself and not expect myself to be 100% so quickly . Hope you are also recovering week
I've been following along, and want to thank you for taking the time to post about your Nicaragua ordeal. I know it's not easy for, but it's very informative and eye-opening. And it will help other people who find themselves in a sticky situation. 😎

So sorry you all had to suffer through all of this. Horrific but not surprising (I've spent time in the same country). Keep your friends there anonymous for their protection. Don't go back...at least not until a new day dawns there. So glad you made it back and that you met kind supportive people (corazon nica) in the midst of chaos.
My heart 💔 for you and your husband. Even though you're back in Canada, Canada has gotten so it's not a good place to live. Just a suggestion, you might want to start each video going forward with a brief recap of the events covered in the previous videos relating to this saga in your lives.
I knew from your first video how strong of a woman you are. But it frustrates me how the hospital sent you home with no help, no instructions or knowledge of your recovery. You poor thing.
Why would they have you leave the hospital without teaching you about your ostomy bag or at least getting an English interpreter to help them translate? Also, they should have had you do the changes in the hospital instead of the nurses for teaching purposes. However, I’m in healthcare in the US so I guess I’m just used to certain standards of care.
It wasn't a language barrier. There simply was no one in the hospital to do any sort of training. The surgeon is the one who changed my bag and he basically ripped it off with no adhesive remover and put a new one on without even properly cleaning or prepping the skin first. I had to learn everything after the fact and with the help of my friend.
I just can’t even imagine. Thank you again for sharing your story with us. As I’ve told you my spouse got an ostomy a few years ago, I can’t imagine going through this on your own, never mind the afterwards! He had me and visiting nurses and it was still a challenge to learn it all. All my respect and compassion to you. Also, we learned so much from watching hong ostomy RUclips videos and even still do! So sorry all you had to go through Allison. I met Greg and Hannah when I brought the meal for Harrison. The police officer said, who are you? I said, well, I'm just a friend. It was Wednesday, and he guided me to Harrison, who was sitting outside with Greg and Hannah. I had totally not expected to see Harrison. Harrison's dad was there to bring him clean clothes. Harrison thanked me, I hugged him, and I just kept my hand on his shoulder all the time: I wanted to help him and somehow let him know that everything was going to be alright. He was very nice and doing so well, considering his circumstances. Greg and Hannah introduced themselves, very nice people. Unfortunately, the visit was over before I knew it. I chatted with Harrison's dad for a while. It must have been so difficult for him, but he was strong, being there for his son and family. Sending love my friend, Usha
It was so emotional, all of it. Harrison's dad, Harrison, Hannah crying...every time I drove pas the police station I was thinking of Harrison. I felt very lucky to have seen him though. Send him my best.
I don't see many responses to comments but I'm hoping you see this and respond or comment on it in your next video... Want to really quick say my question isn't being critical in any way, I'm just curious.. Now that you are safely out of Nicaragua and back home in Canada, why are you afraid to say the titles of the officials or the first set of "lawyers" that tried scamming you? I can't imagine how traumatizing this whole ordeal has been and my heart goes out to you, your husband & families. Genuinely just curious... Could it make things difficult for other foreigners imprisoned there? Could your husband or you face legal repercussions?
Part of it is PTSD. Part of it is likely fear of some type of retaliation, or charges being brought against them and face that in Nicaragua. I had 2 instances in other countries that I would not name names for those reasons.
It's a complicated answer. My husband isn't facing any legal repercussions though. Part of It is fear. I am safely back in Canada but I don't want to rock the boat with the government. Also many people who ended up helping us were in positions of power and I don't want to put their jobs in jeopardy. I might address this topic in the future, but I'm not sure how to go about it right now.
You are also forgetting that another human being was affected and died from this whole ordeal. It is not all extort to this Caucasian family, corruption and greed! If your family member died from the same circumstances as it happened to this family, you would also be asking for some sort of compensation. Don't be double standard!
@@ghabylatino6283if I recall correctly the person who died unfortunately was highly intoxicated with his headlights off speeding through the intersection. He could easily have killed others. It’s tragic but he put himself in danger.
@@ghabylatino6283Nope, not al all forgetting about the person who passed. He was was intoxicated and speeding so her husband should not have been jailed.
