I am not sure about her leadership style and I can't comment on that since I am not a staff member, but during her tunure, She gave hope to the hopeless... She made us(black south african students from underprivileged backgrounds) believe in ourselves and that we can be anything we desire to be. they may have removed you prof but your legacy lives on and your BOLD message of transformation was felt not only in South Africa but all over the world. You are not perfect, we are all not perfect BUT you have planted a seed of hope in the hopeless. Thank you.

Excellent analysis Hlatse! So right these are institutional issues. If the institution has not created real room to transform all good plans and intentions eventually hit a wall sooner or later. Brilliant.

Good analysis by Mahlatse. She critiqued the institutional systems and policies more than attack a person.

It's nonsensical that people throw in "leadership style" into their argument regarding Prof Phakeng. We can't expect people with different personalities, cultural backgrounds, life experiences, etc to lead the same way. The question that is yet to be answered is " What was/is she charged for"?

Some Women should learn to be professional, As a woman I have had many women managers who do not know how to handle power and become bullies. Black staff said she is a bully. We should stop making excuses for people who cannot be professional, colour and gender should not be used to excuse bullies.

Which black staff? One person does not speak for all the black staff.

All this just requires a high level of EQ. The word "professional" is not inclusive of different cultures. It is viewed in the Western context.

I despise the word "supporting" women when women are, in fact, competent. It's application is condescending.

Some people leave because they failed to deliver and they didn't want the superior to call them to order. Anyway There are bullies all around, men, women and in the world we live in it becomes grey.

Sadly, her arrogance didn't allow her to follow in the footsteps of her predecessor, Dr Mamphela Ramphela, the first black female VC of UCT. She led with dignity and may I add; humidity. Much respect and love to Dr Ramphela.

She was a chancer and was only into position because of colour. We need strong merit based leadership...it is taking time for our black leadership to come into position with good moral and ethical values. I wonder what is the reason for this. Our country is plagued by useless leadership in all sectors...be it education, SOE, municipalities, politics, SAPS...you name it and we poor at it. We just cant deliver...Period.

@@zukai9733 I was rooting for her to stay and then she gave into money and so many disturbing things that came after that. I then beleived that she was a chancer and wanted to turn everything political.
