Oh no, just for 2 it's 50 dollars. Usually they sell for about 400 - 500 for 10 on some websites. I spent 50 dollars on 10 zebra isopods and 10 Oreo crumble Isopods.
@@TheNaturalistGuythats actually insane. i personally collected a few from outside and inspected them for any mites or sicknesses. i used them for my culture. in total it costed me $0 USD. insane how people pay that much for a different color. the culture i made is thriving and it now has multiple reproduced captive bred isopods.
@@gapnap well, the reason people pay so much is because the Isopods with bright colors are usually extremely rare in the wild. Rubber ducky Isopods were JUST discovered in 2017 in limestone caves. Keeping them as pets is awesome because you get to flex your rare Isopods to people, and if you have a big enough colony you can sell them if you want!!
@@TheNaturalistGuy yeah, thats true. but if you just need standard isopods for your bioactive enclosures, its much better to just extract them from the wild.
@@gapnap you should let them breed for a few months so the new generations don't have parasites. Another reason to buy isopods, is that most wild isopods aren't fit to live in really tropical jungle bioactives, or in really hot and dry desert setups. It also depends on the animal you have them with. For tarantulas, scorpions, small terrariums, and small tropical setups you should do dwarf white isopods. For desert setups you should use powder orange Isopods. Sometimes getting them from the wild for bioactives isn't the best idea. As pets or in terrariums/bioactives that mimic their natural region or house an animal native to the area you gathered the isopods from. Gathering small animals from the wild as pets is fine as long as it's not like raccoons, squirrels, and stuff 😂 .
In the UK we call them woodlice(plural) woodlouse (singular) I keep them as pets too! I just have normal woodlice but one is albino so I named it nugget! And nugget has just had babies!!!
I call them doodle bugs, and you're one of the first people online who I've seen acknowledge that name, so thanks!! Normally it's framed as "roly poly vs pill bug," sometimes woodlouse and potato bug are mentioned too, but usually "doodle bug" gets ignored. As far as I know, it's localized to southern Louisiana and some parts of eastern Texas.
I’ve got some white shark isopods (75$- and that was lower than most sellers) and MAN do I adore these stupid guys so much. They really are bizarrely fun pets to have
I love the color variations of Merulanella especially Red Diable with their black red and gold/yellow color combo. Unfortunately I don't have the money to start a colony and I stay at a dorm so I can't treat them like my other little guyz
I think she should be named "Tink"! We have "Rolli-Pollies" and "Pill-Bugs" here, but none so pretty-colored as these Potato Bugs are a different creature. - If you had ever raised potatoes for food, you would know this.
common names aren't always the best thing to go off of. i also call a different bug a potato bug but depending on where you live different things have different names. like how there are three different groups of arthropods called daddy longlegs!
In the Netherlands we call them Pissebed. It used to be believed that spreading ground Pissebedden between the sheets of your bed, or even eating it, would help children against bedwetting.
Im in England,& i Grew up calling them Cheesy Bugs.or other name Wood Louse.but our ones are so Pretty, they are mostly grey, sometimes light red/brown 😊
I've been breeding some really neat isopods not on purpose at first but when I couldn't find them for sale anywhere I started a whole thing they're slate grey with orange polka dots all over
I call it a bioactive component. But don't get me wrong. I love isopods. I find the varieties interesting and I plan on breeding some for myself. Interesting and useful creatures.
Growing up in mostly the Pacific Northwest and Idaho areas, we called them potato bugs or roly polies. A doodlebug growing up could've been a few very different insects, from water beetles to even stink bugs in a few cases. They kind of just encompassed many very armored beetles. I'm curious what other regions and countries call them!
I added four isopods into a bioactive terrarium in February. I now have HUNDREDS of little dudes anywhere from the size of a grain of rice to smaller than fleas running around that terrarium. I introduced a bunch of the tiny dudes to other terrariums. It's getting out if control tbh
I always caught and played with bugs when I was little. I grew up calling them “rolly pollies” but I call them isopods now. I have 4 species of isopods currently and plan to get more. I still call the wild ones rolly pollies. The ogs 😂
I put a woodlouse in a terrarium a few years ago along with a worm and there's literally hundreds in there. 😅 They're so fun to watch. It feels cruel but they're breeding like crazy so idek.
I've always called them rolly pollies. I've always been scared to death of them I used to have nightmares of them rolling into a ball, then rolling down my ear and laying eggs to eat my brain 😂😂 i know crazy but they are freaky. Id love to have the orchard praying mantis. Now for a bug they are beautiful
We called them pill bugs and rolly pollies were only the ones that can roll into a ball....the ones that couldnt we called wood louse...then i saw the spider nature developed to hunt then...😮 Check out the wood louse spider....

I love the isopod content! Keep it coming.
