Bev Coughlan Taking this sentence our of context from the life of Saint John Vianney, unfortunately, could give us the impression, that , unless , we are willing to live as Carthusians, in the silence of a monastery, we do not have a chance to reach Heaven. The vows taken at the altar of God, by a couple in Marriage, after "bans " are declared, are no less binding , than the vows taken by a monk or a priest, though the words and content may vary. DIVORCE, after taking a solemn VOW of MATRIMONY is very grave ; the solemn VOW is akin to murder of the heart of one´ s partner ! To break a marriage vow, is to break the heart and trust of another human being whom one has vowed to help guide to Heaven. It is , in God ´s eyes, extremely destructive, and hateful. We have, perhaps, already noted that: more children today, in a normal school classroom, have only one parent, and are products of the home of the divorced ! than , the few who have both parents, and are in the minority ! Saint John Vianney did not recommend the priesthood to everyone, and as a dedicated priest, who gives advice in the confessional and at other occasions, he was very careful, in giving vocational advice to people that he did not know personally, after many years, extremely well ! he did however, require, for absolution, that, those already in a vocation, were aware of their responsibilites to the glory of God, before he issued absolution and could withhold absolution for many weeks. For him, a solemn vow before God, could never be broken, with any expectation, other than the loss of one ´s Soul. This is no more old- fashioned , than the consideration given to the vows of poverty, chastity and most of all, obedience to the priestly order or community of men, who would dedicated their lives as contemplatives, teachers or missionaries or for any other God apostolic purpose. Even the single life, in the world, has, the purpose , we ourselves wish to imprint on it, as hermits or tertiaries, etc.aimed at perfection in the glorification of God . The Bible is a serious Guide in which Jesus interprets and refines with many parables , the commandments given to Moses. We may fail in any VOCATION when we fail to respect the vow that we took, whether we made it recently or not. A vow is solemn. We must enter into the state dictated by a vow, "with our eyes wide open" . God loves us to abandon ourselves totally, just, to Him. This is one ´s vertical devotion to God, as stated by the first commandment of God. Our exclusive abandonment to adoration of the Almighty Godhead is fulfillment of the major requirement for us all , necessary for glorifying God. To practice this hidden way of life is not very practical, when married, if one is not aware of every detail and makes one ´s partner aware and must consider what the children would undergo, yet, be brought up with a degree of normalcy in such a home environment. In all events, one must understand the details and intensely desire this state, or leave it well enough alone. The abbot who wanted the innocent monks to re -bury the preserved corpse and not let it be known, is protecting the environment from the curious visitors who would desecrate the, otherwise, sanctified environment. The fact that it got known anyway, shows the wisdom of this. It is an inspiring tidbit , to read about , for even more proof of God ´s existence and love, then we already have. Jesus , even required secretiveness of this kind, and told the apostles Peter, James and John, not to breathe a word about what they had witnessed on Mount Tabor, until after he was resurrected. He made them promise that. The horizontal love that we are to show our fellowmen , is , not for any other purpose than for the Glory of God. If it is just for our own social vanity and consolation that we wish to chatter, it is empty and frivolous, but, human enough and it let ´s us "vent". God in his goodness never wishes to burden us with more than is necessary, anyway. When we help others, it is just for the glory of God and "no one ever got indigestion from swallowing inappropriate or ugly words " .

Reading the writings of the Carthusians 'They Speak in Silences', and Thomas Merton's writings brought me back to the Church after 40 years. The monastic tradition is an inspiration to us all.
Thank you Father ... it makes you think about all of the things going on around us that we don’t know about or think about ...like all that goes on in our intricate bodies we never think about . It’s all very mind boggling. This pandemic has given many of us a chance for deep reflection🙏
Good morning, Father Mark, I thank you for all your hard work and you videos they are a great inspiration for me. Keep up the good work, God Bless you, and Our Blessed Mother Mary keep you close to her immaculate heart.
You are so inspiring Fr Mark! With all of the craziness in the world, you always take a few minutes to draw me in closer to Jesus and the communion of saints who help us in our every day lives.
Especially among mothers who had to bring up a large family in poverty. My Grandmother was one of them. She had nine children and a drunken and abusive husband. How that poor woman suffered and with such patience.
Stat Crux, Dum Volvitor Orbis ! I believe the picture is from the interior of Charterhouse of the Transfiguration, Vermont USA. I know someone who had great devotion to Blessed Mother Mary. He was accepted there 40 years ago as a brother. HE is still there. Ave Maria !!
I believe you are right about Vermont. When I stayed at Parkminster I had such an honour to meet Dom Raphael Diamond the prior at Vermont when he was visitor at Parkminster... lovely man...we talked about his writing a psychological portrait of Dom Pedro Moore, he wondered where it was...I had just cleaned the library floor and spotted this piece .... so I told him exactly where to find it amongst the dusty tomes.... a very, very nice man Dom Raphael....I think hes dead now.
@@MrCrouchback Thank you for sharing! Yes, he must be passed on because when I visited in April-June 2019 at the Transfiguration as a retreatant, he was not there, and I don’t think they have transferred any monks in their history of that monastery. The current prior is Filipino, and I actually cannot remember his name because he is addressed as Fr. Prior. He has a long Spanish name. I believe it is partly Maria Lorenzo, but I could be wrong. As you know, many monks have Mary in their religious name.

@@hummingbirdee9389 Thank you for the link to the Carthusian documentary. And I LOVE your social media handle!
Cool! Where do you find that?
Thank you Father Mark for all that you do. I will purchase that book asap.
We will attain holiness in the state of life God chose for us.
As my novice master once told us "the good that we want to do may not be the good that God wants us to do."
Good morning, Father Mark. My mom passed away on Wednesday 11/25 I want to thank you so much for your prayers for her and I.
So... we can refer to this soul as the Silent Saint of the Carthusians! May God Bless You Fr Mark. Always a blessing in my day
Very interesting thank you Father Mark Have a Blessed Day 🙏🏼❤️🕊

Reading the writings of the Carthusians 'They Speak in Silences', and Thomas Merton's writings brought me back to the Church after 40 years. The monastic tradition is an inspiration to us all.
Wow, as a catholic myself never heard carthusians... glad to hear something new. Thank you dear father
Thank you Father ... it makes you think about all of the things going on around us that we don’t know about or think about ...like all that goes on in our intricate bodies we never think about . It’s all very mind boggling. This pandemic has given many of us a chance for deep reflection🙏
Thank you Father Mark, I have listened to you every day since lockdown began. You are so inspiring. Thank you from Scotland UK.🙏🙏
Thank you Fr Mark for this because not much is explained and spoken of these holy people. This is awesome. Praise be Jesus Christ.
Amazing Fr. Mark, and it also confirms something I've believed for many years: some of the greatest saints in the Church are not even known!
Especially among mothers who had to bring up a large family in poverty. My Grandmother was one of them. She had nine children and a drunken and abusive husband. How that poor woman suffered and with such patience.
@@paulbastier3773 I'm sure she received immeasurable graces. God bless her soul.
I had the privilege of living as a brother retreatant there for 2 months back in 2019, and I met each of the monks. They are all blessed indeed.
Thank you for the wonderful story, Father Mark Goring!
Father Mark, what an amazing story. Great finding Father. Sure is a different world 🌎‼️but I almost think I could handle that life style now, but only if I could bring my dog (no offence) Thank you Father Mark love & prayers 🙏🏼✝️ Anna Bloss, Melb Australia 🇦🇺👱🏻♀️🌺🌼💐🌸🌻
Thank you Fr. Mark💒🕊️. Jesus❤️ is the Way the Truth And the Life Amen🙏.
Viva Cristo Rey 🌹🕊️
I once visited a Carthusian monastery here in England, which was an amazing experience. They had an incredible library full of very old books, with some dated 18th century and earlier.
Viva viva viva Cristore! I just love your preaching! Makes my day everyday. I check in just before bed and have you taught me so much and strengthened my Faith!!
Keep going Father, you touch our souls, you turn us around. God bless you.
Very interesting. Thank you for sharing, Father Mark. God Bless!!!
Yes, I believe in GOD who has been with me my whole life. Thank you Father Mark for all you do to keep us close to GOD.
“ I believe ... in the resurrection of the dead & life everlasting.” Amen! 🙏🏻🌟🙏🏻
Awesome video as always Fr Goring. Thank you. ☦️

Thank you father. I felt emotional happy tears with this story.
Another amazing and informative chat. A few minutes only but each minute filled with so much knowledge. Thank You.
From Ireland may God bless our Global Catholic family..
Thank you Fr. Mark! I was blessed with living there at the Transfiguration Monastery in Vermont, where that picture was taken, as a brother retreatant for two months back in 2019. I did hear of that story back when I visited the Grande Chartreuse in 2017, and at the Transfiguration in Vermont. It is always refreshing to hear it! God bless you +
Praise our Lord Jesus Christ! Love to you my dear brothers and sisters.
Love this book. I work at a monastery for the school's headmaster. The full book is, apparently, a very accurate account of monastery life and amazing rituals

Praise Yaushua!
I always use that name in my private prayers. It was the name that he was known by to his Blessed Mother and St. Joseph and St. John the Baptist and his disciples.
Great, great story Father Mark!Thank you so much!
I loved watching the documentary that was made about the Carthusians many years ago: Into Great Silence. Looks like I will be adding A Time to Die to my Kindle Library - Thank you so much for recommending it!
God bless you!
VIVA CRISTO REY!!!
Wonderful story Father--and how right the Carthusians are! For what does it matter if a 100% perfectly, beautifully, unspeakably preserved body is found--the person is still dead!
I saw the title of the video and immediately thought- I remember reading about something like that in a Nicholas Diat book. It is a good book, helped me a lot through this past semester.
Thank you Fr. Mark. Only a couple of minutes but this has a huge impact.
God bless his children with your clones dear Rev Father. Always a powerful word!
Viva Cristo Rey 👑 thank you Father Mark
Thank you fr.Mark for your words.
Thank you Fr. Mark
I appreciate your time
Blessings 👏
Thank you
Thanks fr indeed true reaches and eternal life is found in jesus christ.Viva cristo rey !
What a beautiful scripture reading!! The Carthusians always amazed me as to how one can live in total silence. Then again, their prayers help us to get to heaven and their whole focus remains in God, with nothing too much to distract.
Thank you for sharing Father Mark! God bless us all! Amen
Thank you Father Mark for your wonderful prayers! May God Bless us all!🙏
Hello sweet Father Goring..thank you for sharing this inspiring story .. got to get this book .. My prayers are always with you Father for graces, virtue and guidance 🕊
Powerful story.
So cool! Thank you for sharing Father Mark.
Strangely, I found the pandemic to be a blessing. Enabled me to draw nearer to God and to explore the postcode Iwas confined to. Changed my life and increased my social circle despite the restrictions the State placed on me. Amazingly never caught COVID but deeply sympathise with people who did.
Amazing ‼️ I haven’t ever heard of Carthusian Monks or Priests before?? Thanks Father Mark & all who have left their comments, has helped me lots. God bless & love Anna Bloss 👱🏻♀️🙏🏼🇦🇺🌎✝️💜💐
Thank you Father love your messages !! 🙏❤️
Thank you Father, that is so beautiful. These Monks have a wonderful way to protect the soul from vainglory...the great danger for devout souls!
Amen I believe in the Eternal Resurrection

Amen Amen, Father. I'm ALL in. Thank you for your message. Vivat Jesus.
Carthusians are so boss! Into Great Silence was a mesmerizing film about them.
Father Mark, please pray with me for Father Michael & his associate Pastor. For their total Healing of Covid-19. This virus just isn’t worthy to wear a crown! 😔🙏🏻
Thank you for sharing!
🙏 Thanks Father love & lite 🙏
Thanks for sharing that Padre. God bless you
What a shame. Saint’s are such an inspiration to all of us..
Thank you for this, interesting and moving. I recommend a book about the Carthusians called An Infinity of Little Hours.
Thank you Father!!!
I have and love this book🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Very cool story! I like: Jesus makes saints, He doesn't publish them! He didn't even publish a single word! But it is a curiosity whose body that was!
Incredible story, I would like to read that book.
Great courage is required to publicly admit that one cannot be trusted to keep a secret.
Thank you. This was very comforting and informative. Deo gratias.
They pray, work, pray, work, eat, pray, work... these monks are amazing to learn about. They do admit if one prayed 24/7 you'd go insane, so with St. Bruno, their founding father of this order, they pray many times daily, intermixed with work to find a balance. Imagine to being in their walls over the noise of the secular world. I'm hoping to find one close to Idaho to visit... would be heavenly.
He that has no name will be with us always!
Thank you Jesus for everything
Amen.
yes .. that is significant ... very special person when a body doesn't dissolve after death.
So one of the monks sinned and broke his vows. Then this story was retold in taverns and campfires for hundreds of years. This guy hears it writes it down and voila we have a miracle. Glory be to God!
Glenn Davis. That is what I thought as well.
The author interviewed several monks for this book, and had the permission to the stories.
"Yes, Lord." 💒😊
