Idk what’s wrong with me but I just dislike new recruit so much more than BattleScribe. Something about the UI just overwhelms me or it just feels messy compared to BS 🤧
@@UniquelyAwful hahaha fair enough mate. It's the same with battle scribe for me lol. I hate the interface. The whole thing feels so clunky. Plus I love that since BS is online all of my lists are everywhere. I can make a list at work and it's ready to use on the PC immediately.
Honestly, gating the rules at all is just kind of silly. They've already bought your models, you have the money. Plus, a paper codex is pointless if you have balance patches that make the printed book illegal. Not to mention that people base their decision to run/not run units (and buy the appropriate models) based on their current stats, which means that a free list-building app can easily become a shopping list for an aspiring player, earning GW far more money than forcing them to buy a physical book and an app subscription before even starting to make a list.
@@EvanTheilman One could argue GW _counts_ on fans posting the information for free online. Because then they can monetize the poor fools who don't realize the information is free elsewhere, by selling them a few physical books or Warhammer+ subscriptions.
It surprised how much easier apps make army building. I went straight from building a 4th ed list with pencil and paper to making 9th and 10th ed lists in Battlescribe and New Recruit and damn does it make it quick. Plus no more doubting myself if I remembered to account for the cost of that powersword or meltagun or whatever and I'm actually 5 pts over...
It is kind of hard to find some of the rules commentary a lot of the time. Was doing some necrons vs drukari and neither of us could remember do you draw from the base or from the boat? I'm honestly still not sure after having spent some time googling. I just want one big pile of up to date rules!
I hate the fact they wanna force you to buy the codex for the rules Rules should be free and the codex should be an optional collectable item I dont wanna buy 7 codexes for my armies Orks, Space Marines, i play imerial agents in space marines, i play a knight in space marines, genestealer cults, i sometimes play brood brothers (me and my friends have agreed to ignore the fact it got limited to one detachment) Thats 280 euros for rules that should be free (not counting the warhammer plus subscription Service and Pariah Nexus cards)
I love the goonhammer app, I usually hand write my crusade notes but I like compiling them on the app later to make sure I didn’t forget any steps or miscalculate while resolving them. It’s unfortunate that crusades are such a new concept that James hasn’t been able to add a way to do that in his app. But I’m sure Mr. Workshop will carve out some time to do so before the launch of 15th edition, and will fix it by the end of 16th edition.
Assembling units with the correct gear is also a hassle for my chosen, needing maximum melee of all special weapons/optimal build makes it a 5 minute job making sure all are equiped but not over or under equiped.
I have 100% the same problem. I have 9th edition codex, Black Templars codex and I had a subscription in the app (because I wanted to start collecting a Sisters army). In the 10th edition, I couldn't play for a minute because of the 1300 point army, about 900 points are Templar and the rest are other Spacemarines.(Which is locked in the app for me) My oath of moment was that: I will not continue building armies until I can Play with them. With this outstanding marketing strategy, Gv lost roughly 75% of its revenue, on me.
I use New Recruit to build lists but I use the 40k app during play, I've been meaning to give New Recruit's Play Mode a shot during a game to see how it goes
GW is insane, either make minatures cheaper and charge for rules or make rules free and app easy to use and dont charge for breathing and make minis cost premium the fact that they can get away with doing both is bad
The fact that they want me to buy the imperial agents codex just to get the stats of one assassin is absurd. They have differing points costs if you run them as an ally or apart of that specific army so why can’t you have their stats change slightly when allied in someone’s army?
All I want to do is paint some Deathwatch miniatures and play a game. It shouldn't be this expensive or complicated or confusing or change so frequently. So far I have spent £23 on a DW vets box, £25 paint supplies and £30 on a codex and Im still nowhere near a 500pt army to play with. The cheapest entry point for 40k is insane.
Problem 2: except for the close combat weapons, I can equip my Deathwatch exactly like you say (xenoblade + shield and 4 thunder hammer). So either they fixed the app, or yours is buggy.
I'm a bit wary of stuff like Adept roll. I feel like roughly calculating damage potential is one of the skills you need to be a better player, and having an app do that for you seems kinda lame. Especially during a battle. The moment my opponent whips out his phone every time he's gonna roll some attacks is the moment I pack my stuff and go back home.
Paid for the codex, paid the app. Then I got New Recruit and printed everything and made a nice book that has everything info I need ... I wish I could do that with the GW app. Oh well, not paying for next month 😂
Lovely video great points, good info, might try out that app but for the love of God please remove that swish sound effect every time and image shifts it was driving me mad
@@ChristianVonCarmian40kVtuber correct for now, the indication they gave was rules were gonna be free after codex release codex was gonna be lore and art too but they reverted.
True, but if you're any sort of competitive having both an app to check rules and an app to track games (Tabletop Battles) make 3 and 5 round tournaments so much easier.
10th ed 40k isn't on battlescribe for some reason at least not when i downloaded it 2 days ago so i uninstalled i don'think it had the current age of sigmar edition rulesd either

I just use new recruit and wahapedia
I just stopped playing 40k after 7th.
Hell yeah man. New Recruit is great. Frequently updated. Easy to use. Seamless integration with Tabletop Simulator as well.

my only gripe with new recruit is the contrast in dark mode... other than that, great
Once again you explained everything better then the games workshop can lol
thanks!
I'm surprised you only stopped at 6 reasons!
I decided to show restraint and not let the video be an hour long
Paying for 7 codex books to see my CSM army and all the allies in the app. NOPE. CSM, Daemons, Knights, WE, TS, DG, and soon EC.
Ooof...I felt bad for divergent chapters, but that's ridiculous
Omg, how did I not know about Adept Roll.. THANK YOU
I still can't believe they are DOUBLE pay walling the rules... do they hate customers?
They just love only that specific part of the customerbase that will pay whatever they put on the pre-order every week
In another Timeline GW unlooks all the stuff in the App if you have Warhammer+

You mean they don't?!? Ffs.

Regarding the Live Service: they also have the monthly subscription fee just for Space Marine players, with a new Primaris Lieutenant every month.
Fuck paying a subscription for an app like this. What was wrong with buying an app, and then having the app?
No, I havent bought the Pariah Nexus mission deck, and the fact it is out of stock since it came out may have something to do with it

They just started doing this for AoS as well, problem is that will affect AoS more than 40k since it has a smaller fan base

I hosnetly prefer new recruitment and it is not as dull as battlesribe.
Another awesome informative video. Please keep them coming.
YES Toggle Mode so much yes........casual vs Tournament modes would be great!

Absolutely agree on this 👍
I felt mind controlled by this vampire as clicked like the moment they said, "click".
The only app I need is a digital vampire yelling goodly at me

It has taken them a while to fix

At 12:01 ... Yeah, well that's what uprising cults _would_ say!

FIFA loot boxes in the 2010's really did ruin all forms of gaming, even in tabletops of all things
Wheeeeee, this is Bad.
No gives T-shirt or Beanie. Possibly Vampire cult cloak with Popped collar
Haven't even viewed the video. I hate that they went "it's free and will stay that way! 6 weeks later nope!
well... its still free... but has almost none of the information or uses that it did when fisrt launched

as long as someone understands the deep humour of my videos
0:08 really? It's taken you this long to realise/report on this? Cos I've been saying this for almost a decade now.
I have moved off the app
This app is why I won't play 10th

I re-installed it. Same problem. Very weird. At least there is New Recruit for 10th ed
