Highbridge Hotel in the Bronx! I just spent a week there last week. A little under 200 a night. Most reasonably priced full featured hotel I’ve ever seen in the city! 3 minute walk from the 4 train, safe neighborhood, continental breakfast, extremely safe and clean hotel with BIG rooms and beds. Literally can’t beat that

Hey Sarah, my husband and I spent an amazing week in NYC last month for our 15th wedding anniversary. It was my first time in the city and we had to go on a budget and we went with a hotel in Maspeth Queens next to some business, near a highway and next to an old Jewish cemetery. No tourists. Definitely where the real New Yorkers lived because we commuted by bus, to the subway station, to Manhattan, etc. We also chose it because we drove to NYC and needed to find a place with free parking so hey, it was there and you know what??
It didn't change our enjoyment of NYC at all. Did we have the great spectacular view? No. It was a very quiet view of graves but we weren't spending much time at the hotel because we were spending our time exploring the city and experiencing NYC as a regular local and I fell in love!
I want to go back so much now 🤩😍 so even though we were at a cheap but comfortable hotel, it still worked out for us in the end.

LIC all the way. I've stayed with friends and in the middle of Manhattan in a nice hotel but LIC is the way. My up coming visit will be the 2nd time in LIC with a different hotel so can't speak to the hotel just yet. However the location is ideal, 2 mins from a subway stop which goes right into Manhattan. Also a nice, safe feeling area, which is a big deal.

I stayed at The Flat NYC on W 24th St in the Flatiron District, really central to all the main tourist sites and attractions and had some good food options nearby. Rooms were a little small which is typical of big city hotel rooms in NYC, London, Paris etc and there were shared bathrooms but overall it was comfortable and the staff were really friendly, also free water, tea and coffee in the lobby.
It was about $216USD per night which was not bad value given it was pretty centrally located, I’d recommend it to people wanting to stay in midtown Manhattan.

@@justSTUMBLEDupon yeah, I mean it’s nice when you’ve got your own bathroom, but shared bathrooms I’ve found fine given places like the YHA/HI have it pretty consistent and clean them regularly, also is cheap in terms of room price. Sometimes all you need is a place to sleep if your exploring and out and about all day.

Another option is to stay in Jersey City or Hoboken. You can get into Manhattan just as fast as you can from Queens. In Jersey you'll get a view of Manhattan, but you'll be paying less money or getting much more space for your money. Also, if you want to drive to NYC you can park your car in Jersey for MUCH less. Leave you car in Jersey and take the PATH or ferry into Manhattan. Jersey City and Hoboken look just like many parts of Brooklyn. You can take pictures of Hoboken or JC and tell your friends you stayed in Brooklyn and they'll never know the diff.

If you mean the Upper West Side as a neighborhood, yeah, it's safe. I grew up in that neighborhood in the 1970s and 80s, when it was dangerous, and I still take precautions like never putting anything of value in my back pockets or putting a bag down where it's easy to grab and run away with. I recommend that you take those precautions anywhere in the city, even though many people have relaxed a lot, and I've stopped warning strangers to take their cellphones out of their back pockets if they want to keep them.

10/10 Do not recommend Hotel Kimpton Eventi.
I have been there a few times, including during COVID and onwards. It struck me that the service staff was quiet fantastic but the Reception / Front Desk staff suck. A return guest in my experience gets at a minimum a greeting card in the room to build on the relationship. Not at the Kimpton Eventi, even when I made a point of mentioning coming back. I contrast this with my experience at other NYC hotels and this let me down.

Still, I can dream about returning. In 2006 I stayed at the New Yorker before it was refurbished and although the room and bathroom were tired and somewhat small, beingon my own that did not matter too much. Last year my husband and I stayed in the New Yorker, very small corner room, very loud but what a view!! In May we will come to NY again for 10 days. This time we will stay in NJ.. It was a very long discussion. We will come with our 16 year old son and we want some privacy for him. In NJ we found an hotel with a separate bedroom, a kitchen and seating area and NY views for only $2500,- We want tot rent a car so we can discover uptown NY.

I've heard it's a big mistake to rent a car in NYC. Traffic is heavy. Take the subway instead.

I live in New York City and I know some places more interesting than that more cheaper also uptown Manhattan even in Queens close to my older brothers house in Long Beach Long Island, where my older sister lives at in the Bronx. I have family there and also. In Brooklyn I also have family there. I come from a big family and were divided in all the boroughs in New York City. My favorite is in Long Beach because there is less foot traffic although there is more crazy but there is crazy everywhere I come from Washington Heights, Manhattan, New York.

Myself and my wife are coming to new York for the first time from the UK in exactly 1 year. What is the weather like, what's best to do, as we are staying 5 minutes from time square?

I just got back from NYC Nov 6-11. It was fairly nice weather but if you go out early in the morning or in the evenings it will be a little cold. Definitely pack a warm coat, hat and gloves. I stayed fairly close to Times Square which I didn't like, but it's a good central location. Don't spend too much time in Times Square. I recommend Edge (for the most incredible views), Brooklyn Bridge at sunrise and sunset (in Dumbo), Central Park, shopping in Soho, restaurants/shops in the West Village, walk the Highline... to name a few things- there is SO much to do! You may want to see a show on Broadway. I went to the NY Philharmonic and it was incredible. I prefer lower Manhattan to Upper Manhattan although I really love Upper East Side. Hope you have the best time!!

I really would avoid Times Square. The crowds are horrible - it’s the worse thing trying to get to the theatre. I often take a subway stop above Times Square and walk down 7th to avoid the nightmare. Almost preferred the area when the pimps and hookers were around in the 1980s. At least you can get about and Broadway had lower prices to attract the audiences to the area!

NYC is more expensive than London and Paris. $250 is ridiculous for a distant cheap location.

This vid is apparently advising you how not to get broke, but she’s talking about expensive options??? I guess the answer is that it’s not possible. What a tease. Also, is it harsh that my travel agent said that Brooklyn isn’t a good place to stay?
