Jack Paar was great. He really put together the late night format, the monologue, the desk...entire thing. I'm a big Carson fan, but I would rather be Jack Paar in life.
@@marknewcomedy1 Yes.....I didn't say Paar originated it.....but you have to admit it solidified under him. I'm also a big Steve Allen fan....reading one of his dozens of books right now. Allen could do everything.
I was never a Paar fan. I wasn't interested in traversing his many emotional sensitivities. He could suck up with the best of them. He knew how to massage Hollyweird, along with artistic /cultural and political egos. He landed lots of great guests but Paar was best taken in small doses.

I preferred Jack Paar to J.Carson.Paar had a sincere and got a kick out of comedy Carson Always gave me the impression that he wasn't spontaneous.Just my opinion.
Poor Doc Severinsen, never knew if Jack Paar would reach out and shake hands.
Btw Doc is still with us, 95 years of age 🙂
I noticed that! He couldn't decide whether to sit down. Paar was rude.
If someone snubbed Paar like that, when he had the Tonight show, he'd spend a week of shows slashing and burning the person.

Actually, Steve Allen originated all of it...

@@Floorguy1000 They were all pioneers and helped the format evolve, but Steve Allen started the use of the desk. No Steverino, no Paar....

HEY DUDES
Paar = Putz
Paar seemed very effeminate - wonder if he was closeted or simply in denial during an era when it was simply not possible to be out.
He was married with a daughter, he was Very Much A Family Man..

Paar was a more interesting and authentic person than Carson. His show was the best version of Tonight.
