For a very short period of time, right before dark moon fair and Scholomance got rotated out, Control mill Warlock was actually very good. Tikatus made other control decks irrelevant and you had several win cons with Jaraxxus, Neeru, Malicia, and Rustwix duplication after Neeru. Worlds was full of control warlock. I don't remember if Neeru was played there but I do remember it seeing play in ladder.
One thing I find odd about the current rotation is that they tried to push Discard Warlock again with a few of the current core cards being ones revolving around the Discard mechanic, including High Priestess Jeklik.
Yeah I thought that was weird too. Plus that 2 mana 3/2 that discards a card.
Wait you find it weird that the core cards supports modern archetypes?
@@albertlofling7310 This comment was before they added more Discard archetype cards in the latest expansion to synergize with. It was strange with 2 expansions in without any Discard synergy in standard but now they've more than made-up for it.
@@Chaoticus9 ah. makes sense.
@@albertlofling7310and now for some ungodly reason we have 3 mana discard your hand in standard, banned in wild, without any good discard support lol
Really glad youtube randomly recommended your channel for me. Great chill and funny videos. Thanks for the content!
Any time! Glad you got recommended here too!
Blood in the Water was played in the Thief Rogue
Good to know
damn i really enjoyed this video then saw it was your first!
Thanks!
I know this isn't with Wild in mind, but from a Wild perspective:
-There has been some experimentation among some reputable offmeta players with the self-discard warlock, though it was very shortlived. Soul Rend found a home though in Evenlock/Reno Evenlock
-Token DH, and by extension DH in general, has really struggled in Wild. There was some attention to it when Castle Nathria got released, but Druid just did the Denathrius strat better.
-Shadow Hunter Vol'jin quickly became a center piece for Mecha'thunlock, though other variations quickly took its place once Runed Mithril Rod and Tome Tampering came in (though Tome Tampering as of this comment's date is banned in WIld now).
-Trickster is not good in Wild, though I see that it's a big piece of Jackpot Burgle Rogue in Standard.
-Overdraft is a very wild-worthy card. There are times where Spirit of the Frog Shaman builds will pop off, and this card is a big part of that deck, whether it's the pure burn, QL, or Giants Shaman. Same thing goes with Investment Opportunity. This is one of my favorite decks, gives me Miracle Rogue/Darkglarelock vibes.
Thanks for telling me this. I am not as familiar with the Wild meta as Standard so this is very interesting. Also I do love watching Dane do overdraft + spirit of the frog combos.
reminds me of how ursarctic archetype in yugioh has a card letting you draw 7 but rest of the archetype is so terrible nobody plays it
Yeah this is definitely inspired by that
What I learned watching this video:
Want to play a big minion deck? Just play Druid.
I need to stop playing Blood in the Water.
Your Trickster take aged like milk
gotta swing for the fences sometimes
@@mrchundo lol
Just got this on my front page and I’m happy I did. Afterwards I watched a few of your other videos and enjoyed them thoroughly. You remind me a lot of Rhystic Studies and that’s very much a compliment.
Feast of Souls should've been a 2 mana draw 1 and +1 for each that died. Would've been a better overall card. But yeah we have card draw already idk who this was for.
Yeah like impending doom
@@mrchundo impending catastrophe*
Great video, keep up the good work!
Thanks! I’ll try my best
5:45 Shadow Hunter Voljin was very definitely played in Mecathun Warlock in Wild
hes not talking about wild
Any card that does not see play is bad. Cards don't exist in a vacuum.
I know it’s an old video but it’s cool how you identified Swiftscale Trickster’s problem early. All it needed was Jackpot! to be printed.
Hilarious that swiftscale trickster is pretty good now after the lich king expansion
yeah I had a feeling that one would age poorly
@@mrchundo no I think you were correct and even kinda called it, by saying switfscale trickster would be good if Rogue had access to good expensive spells and due to Jackpot he has gained it
I think discard or self mill decks would probably be more powerful if Hearthstone had a easier to access graveyard mechanic.
Having more consistent access to the cards you're binning is a much better pay off than some of the stuff Blizzard has tried imo
Yeah it's starting to feel like the design space of Hearthstone is running out if they don't add in a big shakeup like a graveyard. Dredge was a nice start.
What do you use for your backgrounds? They're always so cool. Also, I came back to this channel to watch more videos but I've already watched them all haha. Make more man, they're great!
Glad you like them! I edit on DaVinci Resolve and they have a few noise patterns, background generators, etc. that you can play around with to get different backgrounds
love vids like this, more pls
Thanks! I’ll get on that : )
20k subs in 6 months. Calling it now.
Very ambitious - I like it
Ingenius ideas, im sad u dont upoad more. droped a like n subed
Sorry Patrick! I’ve got real life dog-in-suit-stuff keeping me occupied atm
@@mrchundo its fine j keep makin bangers
very nappable content! much love
Thanks! People need their nap content
Its kinda crazy that voljin became part of one of the grossest standard decks before rotation with thadduis shaman
Fun fact: in the mmost recent Twist gamemode, discardlock has seen potential with the additional new legendary Fanottem, along with the power level being lower in twist
Titans really brought overdraft from a dead card to a meta
Swift scale is really solid now with Jackpot lol
Man I really, desperately, want Discard Warlock to be good. I just really love the idea of using everything as a resource; one's health, one's cards -- everything! Must be Rakdos rubbing off on me.
So discard zoo with lategame burn to finish the game. The control discard package is basically never printed
Swiftscale trickster you didn't do justice. I regularly manage to pull off insane combos using swiftscale + jackpot. You can easily get cards like drakefire amulet out on turn 4, leading to a ridiculous board if you get lucky. Either you can get off a crazy spell or find something like nightshade bud and play crabatoa early when the opponent has almost nothing. Overall a very good card in my experience with a lot of cards which summon several powerful taunts coming from jackpot.
I liked using voljin in quest pruest during sunken city
There was a 3/3 lifesteal In Knights if the frozen throne
Yep! Shoutout Acolyte of Agony
F Deathrattle Rogue
ah, bloodshard bristleback infamous part of the self mill demon seed that got nerfed in standard and banned in wild,
swiftscale trickster from the tiny rogue // big rogue (depending who was naming the deck lol) also dumpstered in wild after being far and away the best deck. (though it wasn't the key card ofc.)
overdraft.. i don't know if it was actually good but it's always fun seeing dane slamming it on face for 60+ damage :p
Yeah Hearthstone “archetypes” are a little less clear than in other card games. These cards can also be considered members of archetypes - like you said - with self-mill quest warlock that was broken
2:15 milhouse? that 2/8 orc that receives 2 damage every turn (dont remember his name) i Dont think that is real man
wait, trickster saw a lot of play in jackpot rogue
*Today I Learnt* that Blood in the Water exists and I'm glad I did, because that's some good art, if you know what I mean 😏
freeze shaman will rise again
I like the video but blood in the water is a pretty good card and you get a lot of tempo by swiftscaling it
Yeah, I can be a bit too harsh on cards at times
Swift scale finally gets a big spell in lightwell. Still sucks
This aged poorly considering that Vol’jin is a central piece of the second best deck in the game: evolve shaman.
The same is true for Trickster in Thief Rogue. Absolutely essential in a very dominant deck.
tip the scales paladin
That’s a fun one
hello chundo
hello katlagrottan
"Duds like Discard Warlock" Don't tell Trump this.
a bit sad bloodshard is killed by renothal
shadowhunter is best used in mechathun warlock and it still sees play in some builds
Yeah not sure how I completely spaced on mechathun
This video didn’t age well
You remind me of Rhystic Studies
This might be the nicest comment I’ve gotten. Thanks!
