      Yeah, it's pretty exciting to see a dungeon coming to life in 3D like this.

    I just got the delivery of the second dungeon & lazers kickstarter I backed.... a HUGE amount and even the miniatures are decent... my only problem is that I got sore hands the last time after I cut out and cleaned up all the parts... because of the sheer amount ... great value for money.. and seeing yours painted up makes me jealous and eager to finish mine... so, I recommend them absolutely.

      I'm really pleased to hear you were happy with your sets. Which ones did you pick up, or did you go all out and get everything? I've got quite a few sets sitting here on my desk and I'm not sure where to begin. I have a couple of the dragons too, and they are so lovely.

      @@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring uh... so...the first kickstarter I got myself the dragon set, a fantasy core box, dwarven mine, warlock chamber and alien hive (for the alien dragon of course), some extra doors (though I failed to recognize that this were only the doors without the frames)... plus the myriads of stretch goals bits....
      last kickstarter I added another fantasy core set, streets, sewer, wooden cottage, hall of heroes and torture chamber.... and the townsfolk of course.. I just finished building up the phoenix and one giant from the stretch goals and they look really great... though they need a little bit touch up with greenstuff or sprue goo
      not that I need all this at once but I found they make for great display galleries in IKEA billy shelfs... for arena rex miniatures for example... looks just like the catacombs of the gladiators...

      Oh, that's a lot of great stuff. I have the sewer, streets, and townsfolk sets here, along with the Tudor house and castle room. I'm looking forward to creating a little town with them all. I like the phoenix too, not least because I don't already have a phoenix miniature.

    Nicely done - I think for your Tavern setup, you should have used the Vault's floor pieces and the Mine's wall pieces. Maybe we'll see you playing AHQ on these tiles soon?

      Actually, that would look pretty neat. And yes, I've definitely thought these would be great for Advanced HeroQuest!

    They do look nice all laid out.
    What I find amusing is that a major criticism of D&D 4e was it's focus on encounters using maps and minis over traditional theater of mind style play. Guess the pendulum has swung back in the other direction yet again.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  2 года назад

      Yeah, I suspect most people use miniatures these days. As my group are all boardgamers they find it easier to visualise everything when there is something on the table to clearly define the situation. I wouldn't set up a whole dungeon like this though. I think it's good to use theatre of the mind until a situation arises where it helps to lay out an encounter, like a large combat.

    • @johnmiddleton4291
      @johnmiddleton4291 2 года назад

      @@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Sure, but that was the complaint about 4e that lead to 5e. It was too miniature focused and boardgamey.
      I think moist of the people into non-mini roleplaying left D&D ages ago though for something in the OSR. The new crowd probably never even played 4e, aside from what remains in the adventure game series of board games.

    Awesome, they look beautiful made. I saw your painting on the mines and I like how your torches end up, they seem lit up :O !! Another idea would be speedpaint those tiles, add a wash maybe to give some mold and humidity lets say. Really good idea for AD&D sessions or maybe new HQ adventures . . . above all nicely done matey. Thanks for presenting those.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  2 года назад

      They really very are nicely made. You could definitely speedpaint them, and go to town with some washes, bringing out different stone colours and textures. They are very easy to work with. Thanks for checking out the video.

    Excellent video!! I was waiting anxiously for their Woodhaven campaign as I needed modular village terrain for Zombicide undead or Alive, but ended up just making the terrain myself. Mine isn't as nice, doesn't fit as well, and took a helluva long time to make, but it was far cheaper and a fun project!

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  2 года назад

      The Woodhaven stuff would definitely have looked great for Zombicide, but I can imagine it would get pretty expensive to do the whole board.

    I haven't played d&d in 30 years. Used to use the old advanced hero quest cardboard as a floor plan (same as space hulk back in the day)
    I think I'm gonna have to keep my eye on this... 😀

    I mean they are well produced and look great. But to do a full dungeon in this would cost way too much. It's 70 bucks for a few small rooms.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  2 года назад

      I think as soon as you start looking at terrain sets like this, things tend to get expensive. I'm in the UK where these sets seem very competitively priced compared to other options, but even so, you would need deep pockets to create massive environments. While it would be awesome to create a whole dungeon, these sets are really good for small encounters, and for creating set pieces or important areas. For example, if you want your heroes to wander around a winding maze, you really only need to set up terrain for bits of that maze when you want to run a combat encounter or some other kind of challenge where it helps to have the visual aids. The rest of the time, you can just use theatre of the mind.
