    I think it is worth mentioning that I read Mark Cavendish‘s biography and he said he always did really terribly on these power tests, like so badly he refused to do them any more, as it was too embarrassing. He suggested the reason that he is an amazing rider is to do with his body shape/aerodynamics, bike skills and timing. It’s not solely about our outputs for certain kinds of riders.

    • @simonrano8072
      @simonrano8072 5 лет назад +10

      I call BS since he participated WC/Olympics track event that demand aggressive bunch fight at 50 km/h. You can't be Madison WC with an amateur pw output. You can't compete in Omnium with an amateur pw output. You can't survive the Poggio at race pace with an amateur pw output. You can't arrive before time limit on TdF moutain stages with an amateur pw output. Despide what he claims he is able to sustain 400+ W for several minutes. Even in a sprint leadout you are above 500 W in the wheel of your last teamate.
      He may lack of VO2 max to performe in TT but he would be embarrased against some Martin, Wiggins, Dumoulin, Dennis, Cancellara... but not being terrible

      road cycling in inherently all about power. need that engine. without the engine you aren't winning races. in many cases you aren't even finishing the longer races. sprinters in particular need to be up front else it don't matter how much you can output at the end when you've been dropped early on for inability to keep pace.

      Doping doesn't work. Don't be stupid. Tons of lab studies show zero Improvment, or even decreases from epo. Vitamins c and e consistently show decreases. It's all a sham. But yes, some pro riders benefit from motors. Doping doesn't make them faster, even though some do it.

    There’s some cracking riders out there who cannot afford this kind of testing so to me it’s more of a money making exercise. Teams are seriously missing out on some raw talent and should be aiming at taking their testing methods to places where anybody can try out. Testing days or weekends set up. Could easily attract retailers so sell their goods at these events and gain some revenue that way. We get talking to riders who are 14/15 and 16 and are blowing away KOM’s for fun but have a certain discipline which is amazing at such a young age. All the same I enjoyed watching the video

    Didn’t look like talent id session, more like a lot of middle aged men who have the money to fly to Geneva and then can also afford the fee to pay for the testing session - just so they can see how fit they are at 40-60 years old. Mind you I am 45 but don’t have the money but would I be better spending the money on a power meter in the long run?

    No different from most tour pros. Nothing that a bit of EPO can't fix.

      Overblown reactions. It's good to note that you can't directly compare yourselves to pros who are on drugs at least as effective as EPO. So you shouldn't feel bad about yourself, that is all.

      Are you aware that with biological passports they can't be on substances as effective as EPO? They do some micro doping at best.

    The great ones can sustain 400 watts plus for an hour or so. Without that kind of talent, you really cant expect much other than a supporting role(domestique) or another. This bloke couldnt barely sustain 300 watts for 4 minutes. It is a reality check really.

    "Think that 350 is exeptional" Pros are 150-200 W above !!

    • @madmonkeycycling9098
      @madmonkeycycling9098 7 лет назад

      yes, a pro rider puts out around 7w/kg for 5 minutes

    • @simonrano8072
      @simonrano8072 7 лет назад

      Froome's or other top pro riders does'nt come from the full time training but only from genetics abilities that are just perfected with training. Froome on Full KFC diet and smoking would still destroy me despite everything. Pro level is exeptionnal. 350 W is definitely not. This is what I can average for 20 min and I don't train full time. I'm jus in the genetical best 10 % overall, GC riders are the best 10 % of pros that are the best 0.1 % overall. Their is a huge gap. 350 w for 5 min is quite good at most. But nothing to be proud or ashamed, it is just genetics you can enjoy rideing and training no matter your level.

    • @frodo5882

      350W for 20 minutes is quite good for an amateur. What is your body weight?

    • @simonrano8072
      @simonrano8072 7 лет назад +1

      68 kg when in "climbing weight" ate age 28. It is "quite good" but nowhere near "exceptional" I usually do 70 % of pro speed up hill.
