  • “I Am Glad” (Daniel Schreiner) is sung by The Central Washington University Chamber Choir (Gary Weidenaar, director) with soloist Isabella Hanreiter (CWU Senior, Voice Performance.)
    TEXT:
    Rhapsody
    I am glad daylong for the gift of song,
    For time and change and sorrow;
    For the sunset wings and the world-end things
    Which hang on the edge of to-morrow.
    I am glad for my heart whose gates apart
    Are the entrance-place of wonders,
    Where dreams come in from the rush and din
    Like sheep from the rains and thunders.
    William Stanley Braithwaite
    ABOUT THE WORK:
    "I Am Glad is a setting of William Stanley Braithwaite's poem Rhapsody. The composer's words: "To me, the text is a poignant reflection on the many sources of joy that we find in the world. I wrote the piece with the intent of portraying different sides of joy - not only shouts and exclamations, but intimate and tender moments as well. I wrote this piece for the Roger's High School Concert Choir and their director, my good friend and mentor Justin Wisness in celebration of their wonderful performance at the 2018 Northwestern ACDA Conference." - Daniel Schreiner
    ABOUT THE COMPOSER:
    Daniel Schreiner completed his Master's degree in Choral Conducting at Central Washington University in 2020. He earned his undergraduate music education degree from CWU as well. As a Central student, he not only sang in the CWU Chamber Choir, but also the nationally known Vocal Jazz 1 ensemble.
    Daniel is Resident Music Director for ManeStage Theatre Company in Puyallup, WA and sings with the PLU Choral Union, the Wellspring Ensemble, and Chor Anno. He maintains a private voice and piano studio, which includes teaching online voice lessons via skype. His music is published through DanielSchreiner.com and through Santa Barbara Music Publishing.
