She's from the age of talent and no auto tune
Yes and no. "Auto tune" was a piece of software created in the late 1990s...pitch correction was invented 50 YEARS before that in the 1940s and it was in wide use in the 1950s with "Variable tape speed" techniques being used to change pitches via speed changes (crude and rarely used). The mid 1970s saw the onset of the Harmonizer H910 which brought direct digital pitch correcting via overdubbing different recordings of the vocalist over each other to create a better pitch and was in wide use. The early 80s brought the "Infernal Machine 90" which added sampling and THAT was the first modern version of Auto-Tune as it allowed direct pitch shifting and harmonizing without needing extra tracks being recorded by the vocalist. This was the decade that bands appeared and sounded nothing like their recorded sound when playing live.
There's plenty of talent right now, always has been always will be, you just don't care enough to look for it
@@xmathmanx Harmony and melody along with the ability to play an instrument are things missing from a lot of music these days. I do look but am disappointed.
@@mandarinlearner you're kidding yourself man, there is more great music than ever right now, you are listening with closed ears
@@xmathmanx BS
One of the world's greatest female singers.
There are not much singers ho will me make crying but Barbra 💖🫶 she is one off them 😘🍀🇳🇱
@@inekestemerdink7544 Check out Sydnie Christmas who just won BGT..she has a similar combination of vocal talent and ability to make you FEEL a song..same with Chinese singer Zhou Shen
Totally agree
No training, no autotune, just God-given talent. Amazing.
No training either!
About 10 years ago, I was summoned from my office by my flustered boss. I went out to see,
- shockingly, the company president and Barbara Streisand standing in front of me. Turns out, she needed my assistance with something and was told that I was the guy she needed to see. I got the job done for her, and texted all my gay friends - if you know, you know. Had to rub it in, since she is such an icon. She was also very gracious.
How exciting to meet her! I absolutely love her.
Next time you tell the story..try to get the name right..she ws always very particular about it..it's "Barbra" not BarbAra
@@reddragonready oops. I always spell it that way out of habit and family names. It happens, like name being pronounced like a Frenchman.
@@reddragonreadyDrop the attitude, Ready.
The song is from West Side Story. Natalie Wood played in the movie. There were two gangs fighting, Cuban and Puerto Rican maybe, and a guy from gang and a girl from the other gang fell in love. Some where, some day there would be a place they could be together.
I've always felt that Barbara Streisand was THE BEST voice of my generation, (I'm 67).
Very true! Before there was Celine, Whitney, Mariah, Adele, there was Barbra! We also had Ella, Mahalia, Sarah, Aretha, and Patty! All fabulous, talented and iconic female vocalists, who could REALLY sing, and set very high standards for the generations that follow!
She is the ORIGINAL Queen B. She is also the one who could give lessons on how to be a diva without being out there making people realize you are a diva.
Yup. A class act.
AMEN 💙 ALSO LOVE HER DUETS✨️✨️✨️
this woman's beautiful voice has always given me goosebumps.
Barbara Streisand is legendary
She’s a one of a kind talent. Won an Oscar, Grammy, Tony, Emmy and others for performing, writing and directing.
Where's the microphone?
It draws you in, and suddenly it`s over 4 minutes. That is a sign of quality
It's also not a long song.
So many of us have forgotten what an amazing artist Barbara Streisand truly was. She was a force of nature.
She’s still recording!
She still is.
She still is.
Us older folks fell in love with Barbra when she starred as the legendary 1920-1940s comedian Fanny Brice in the film "Funny Girl". Her biggest hit in that film was "People" although everything she sings in it is gold.
Barbra was also a terrific comedian. As a kid, I remember my parents taking me to see "What's Up Doc" with Barbra and Ryan O'Neil. That movie was HILARIOUS. Slapstick comedy at its best.
So many people seem to have forgotten that Barbra was a triple threat: singer, actress, comedienne. She deserves full recognition of her many talents.
Anything that Barbra Streisand is involved with brings me in. Her accomplishments are legendary and her vocals can bring me to tears.
Love, love, love What's Up Doc!!! Think I'll watch it again tonight!@@rubyslippers8215
She is also a great actress serious and comedic.
Absolutely!! Celine idolized Barbra, and it was her dream to duet with her and Producer, David Foster, made it happen on the iconic duet, "Tell Him."
As for "Somewhere"... it is from "West Side Story"... the stage play then movie about teenage territorial gangs in New York in the 50s, and the ill-fated young couple (one white American, the other Puerto Rican), and how hatred and prejudice sealed their fate. It was a contemporary play reminiscent of "Romeo & Juliet."
If you'd like to hear some of Barbra's versatility, check out her duet with the Queen of Disco, Donna Summer on "Enough Is Enough/No More Tears" (8-min. version). It was a huge global hit back in the day.
West Side Story , the best musical . One of my favourite movies ❤.
Even better: You Don't Bring Me Flowers", a duet with Neil Diamond. Barbra is a force, quite unique. But whatever she tackles, she gives it her all. Whether singing, directing, writing screenplay for her movies, acting, political activism, or just decorating her own house, she gives it her all. She is now 82, and definitely still an activist, passionately. Long, lovely catalog and legacy, big talent in one package. I hope you will react to more of her. She recently published an autobiography of herself; no surprise, it has quite a few pages!
David Foster did the arrangement for this recording of Somewhere.
Nice synopsis. The interesting thing is that BP was onto something when he mentioned the Holocaust. Jerome Robbins and Leonard Bernstein originally wrote the musical as EAST Side Story. About an Irish Catholic boy and a Jewish girl who was a Holocaust survivor falling in love on the Lower East Side of NYC. They abandoned that story and finished WEST Side Story a few years later.
The play West Side Story was first performed on Broadway in 1957 and was about the prejudice against Puerto Ricans in New York City, but the deeper theme was about all types of prejudice, bigotry, hatred and violence against anyone, anyplace and how poverty and inequality cause social problems. The masterpiece film of it came out in 1961, choreographed by the great Jerome Robbins, much of it shot in New York neighborhoods that have since been torn down, and a remake came out in 2021. The score was by two legends: music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Many musicians have done their own versions of many of the songs from West Side Story over the decades since it was written, especially this one song - from opera stars to jazz and this is one of the most powerful and moving versions available on RUclips.
Thanks so much for the excellent insight into WSS. Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet sent in 1950s NYC. "Somewhere" is a gorgeous song and Barbra certainly did it justice.
As the previous commenter said, this is from the play/movie West Side Story. If you are not familiar with the storyline it is set in the 1950s New York and the clash between white gang and the newly arrived Puerto Ricans. It is Romeo & Juliette set in NYNY. A white gut and Puerto Rican girl fall in love and a series of gang fights and death occur. This is the couple's song
Perfectly recapped.
I was a 21 yr. young woman of "white" European/Native American descent who grew up attending Baptist churches in Oklahoma during the 60's/70's. "He" was a 25yr.old Canadian Jewish guy who grew up in Montreal whose grandparents had immigrated to Canada fleeing religious/ethnic persecution in Poland and Russia (Ukraine in 1920). When we fell in love and married in 1976 we agreed to respect each other's religious beliefs and to teach our children all we could about both our faiths, and our cultural heritages. We chose this song (from "West Side Story") to be sung at our wedding. It just seemed like the perfect song for our situation. It is still one of my favorite songs.
Thanks for sharing!
You should watch Barbara and Neil Diamond singing You Don't Bring Me Flowers. They both recorded the song separately but at the Grammy awards they surprised everyone and sang it as a duet
That Grammy video is so special because of their interaction! And such a beautiful song, one of my favourites.
And they went to the same High School at the same time and weren't aware of each other and their talent. Amazing!
Unusual for you not to pause! Always a sign it's grabbed you.
One of the greatest voices of all time ❤️❤️❤️❤️👵🏼 Gmaw
She travled to Ukraine and handed them a 200 million dollar check ❤❤❤ she is a beautiful soul ❤❤❤
Wow...I never knew that!❤
When did she do that?
I think Zelenski has enough in his bank. Acting gig of his lifetime.
Omg. I didn’t know that. I fell in love with her when I saw Hello Dolly in the theater with my friend when I was 9. Before she sang a note, I was captivated. I thought she had the most beautiful eyes and skin (😂)l. She does though. And she sings with such emotion. ❤
The greatest singer ever!
The Yentl soundtrack will make your hair stand on end.
Evergreen, long before Lady Gaga as A Star is Born. Guilty with Barry Gibb. Hello Dolly! So many great songs! Loved her as Fanny Brice.
“Woman in Love” is stunningly beautiful too 👍💐
"People" (1964) was Streisand's first big hit with the general public. In 1998 her version of the song was inducted in the Grammy Hall of Fame.
Barbra is a national treasure. There will never be another. No one can sing like Barbra. She has a vast catalogue for you to explore. Barbra was Celine's idol.
Actually that "somewhere" is within the open hearts wherever they exist in the world.
Hands down best female artist of all time!
This is a song from the Broadway Musical 'West Side Story", an updating of "Romeo & Juliet" about gangs fighting in New York in the '50's. Streisand did an album in the mid-80's of songs from Broadway shows and won the Grammy over Madonna, Tina and Cyndi.
Barbra is not one of the great singers, she is the greatest! Her number of albums and awards prove it, as well as being an excellent actress and director of wonderful films. She is a Queen that is difficult to match!
Yentl 😮😊😊😊😊
Divine Barbra!
This song was written for the original 1957 Broadway Musical 'Westside Story'. That there is a place in the world for Tony and Maria and all people.
This is a REAL singer... not one of these modern day posers!!!
There is almost a reverance to her when she sings. A true Artist.
Barbra is "special, special", without a doubt!
Ive been mesmerised by Barbara since I was a very young child watching her sing and act in her movies with my Mum. I'll never stopped being amazed by her talent.
You have just heard the best female singer of all time.
I don't know when this was first recorded. All I can say is Barbra Striesand is timeless. She is 82, and STILL sings like that. She's been singing for more than 60 years. She has collaborated with many singers. You'll have to look them up. You can't miss no matter which one you watch.
There can’t be many singers who can keep up with Barbra but the disco queen Donna Summer did a fantastic duet with her - check out Enough Is Enough
When I was 16 , I wanted to look like her! I adored her!
No matter how many times you hear it, it still gives you chills.
Every single time! 🥰
Goose bumps everytime. I just love her voice.
Not only one of a kind singer but also a top actress
Celine and Barbra singing "Tell Him"....incredible
The world's greatest singer to date! Barbra is a perfectionist, and has ticked off quite a few people during her career, but the performances stand as some of the best in the industry. she has given me so much joy listening to her voice, and watching her on the screen where she also excels!👍😎🗽✌
My favorite female singer! Hands down.
She can sing anything, she is the original diva
La voce di Barbra è unica, vellutata e suadente come la voce di una sirena incantatrice, ipnotica.❤
Thank you for not interrupting the song in the middle to comment.. it kills the vibe of the moment :))
She's unmatched.
The music was composed by Leonard Bernstein with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. The song was from the 1957 Broadway musical West Side Story that was made into films in 1961
Thank you, Joan... I just read through dozens of comments rightfully paying tribute to Streisand, but not a one had mentioned the brilliant composer and equally brilliant lyricist who created the song!
Voice of an Angel.
No One compares.
Yes, there are legendary artist that are just as extraordinary…but Barbra is the Queen the rest aspire too. So blessed I grew up hearing her.❤
Yes, she's absolutely one of my favorites. I don't agree with her politics but I think she's beautiful and has a beautiful voice
I’m with you! 🥰
I’m glad you can separate the artist from the politics. I try to do that as well. Too many people cannot. (I do it from the other side 😉)
What can you say, it is Barbra Streisand! She is so awesome! Love your reaction!
The only one barbra Streisand. No one will never replace
If you really want to hear pure singing, check out "Pavane/Vocalise" from the Classical Barbra album, where she sings an instramental part with no words, just syllables. Just astonishingly beautiful.
Barbra Streisand's magical voice was just so so amazing. She also did acting. She has many many songs, all beautiful. She sang with Barry Gibb too!!!
I fell in love with Barbara Streisand as a teenager with A Star in Born. Her performance in the film of 'With One More Look at You/ Watch Closely Now' is her best performance ever in my opinion. A must see.
Barbra's voice gives me goosebumps ❤ She's amazing!!
Isn’t she the best !?! I’ve loved her for decades and decades. She and Barry Gibb did some great music together too ,, I think you’d love it
****This came from the Broadway Musical & Film "WESTSIDE STORY". A Romeo & Juliet style story, with Rivals Puerto Rican & white Gangs.
Like Linda Ronstadt, Barbra Streisand has a lot of vocal range and styles. Most notably her show tunes in the 60s, disco in the 70s and many movie themes and great duets. You really need to check out Barbra Streisand's duet with Donna Summer, "No More Tears" or her duet with Louis Armstrong, "Hello Dolly".
I know this song, of course, from West Side Story, but if you didn't know that, doesn't this song bring your thoughts to current times? So much deviciveness, racial inequality, some filled with hate. There are some who want everyone to be like them. Push out the rest - the rabbi, the beautiful black child, and the lovely Asian family. Yes, they fit the American Dream, but not for some. They want this place we call America to only be available for those who fit a certain profile. Yes, there is a place for us. It's right here for all of us. We just need to protect our right to pursue that American dream! 💙💙💙
Thank you for saying this. I'm a 75 year old veteran and often ashamed to admit it but still do and by wearing a gay pride peace symbol and COEXIST pin with my service ribbons I show the world that some of us still remember what we fought for.
Can't wait to see you mind blown here!! Barbra is the GOAT!! ♥ Somewhere, Sometime, Someday we will all be one. No hate, just love.
I forgot how good she is! Goosebumps
Singer, actress, writer multi talented over the top best ever❤❤❤❤
Oh yes !!! This lady gives me goosebumps all the time !! So talented !! This song actually makes me cry ♥♥♥
Her live version of Somewhere, from One Voice Concert 1986 is one of her best. And if you want to know what Barbra's voice is able to do, listen to "A piece of sky ?" from the movie Yentl, 1983. you will be amazed... (Sorry for my English, I'm from France ;) ).
Just watch the movie Hello, Dolly! Great acting, superb singing
I saw West Side Story in 1963 and we sang the songs in high school choir that year. I still get emotional hearing Barbara Streisand sing, "Somewhere."
Evergreen is a must listen to and You don't bring me flowers with Neil Diamond wow wow
One talented singer, onstage and without all of the gimmicks and dancers because Barbra is all that you need with her outstanding voice. That is true talent to capture the audience and keep their attention.
Simply one of the two or three greatest female vocalists to come along since the dawn of recorded sound. You really owe it to yourself to go back and discover Barbra Streisand's debut hit that put her on everybody's radar. From 1963, her song "People" from the Broadway musical "Funny Girl" is well worth watching.
Celine Dion couldn't even speak English when she was a little girl, when she 18 she told her manager (later husband), that she wanted to be a big star. She was sent to Ecole Berlitz, to help improve her English. Her Idol was French Canadian singer Ginette Reno, who did record some English albums, but had no real interest in breaking into the English market. Dion who had been recording since age 12, record her first English album in 1990.
Did he mention her, not sure why you're mentioning
Love that you're loving Barbra......and she acts as good as she sings.
Barbra is THE world greatest voice .. That it.
Barbra is amazing! Amazing singer, actress, producer, director! All around top tier!
Enjoy the journey!❤
More Streisand please!!!
Absolute magic. Diva!!! No one equals Streisand...
Oh, Barbra definitely influenced Celine Dion and a whole lot of others. Now that you've been properly introduced to Barbra Streisand, check out her duets:
Woman in Love (Barry Gibb),
You Don't Bring Me Flowers (Neil Diamond), etc.
You definitely also need to hear her song "Evergreen." My parents absolutely loved her, and I grew up listening to her amazing voice.
If you want to laugh, check out her movies like Funny Girl and What's Up Doc?
Barbra is The Worlds Greatest Star. This song is originally from Broadway/Film Musical 'West Side Story". Barbra's take is from her 1985 'The Broadway Album" IMO/FYI
You just got Barbra'd. And that's one of the most difficult songs to sing ever , she slays it beautifully. Love ❤️ her.
The greatest female singer of all time!!!!!!!!!
She has a duet with Celine. Beautiful. Barbara Streisand is so gifted. I love her voice.
Streisand is the GOAT!! Second to none!
There are some great duet numbers in RUclips of Barbra with Judy Garland; I expect that Judy was one of Barbra's influences when she was a young girl. Somewhere (!) I remember Barbra saying or writing that Judy Garland gave here one piece of advice when they finally met - "Don't let them do to you what they did to me." Years later, she realized what that meant. The studio system ran Judy ragged.
If you are going down the rabbit hole to find remarkable vocalists, check out Judy Garland ("The Man That Got Away"), Liza Minelli - Judy's daughter (anything from "Caberet"), Nina Simone ("Feeling Good" or "O Sinner Man" or "Mississippi Goddam") among many others. You won't be sorry.
She is the OG.. Celine is a great great vocalist.. Barbara is an actress and vocalist.. love her movies and get lost in her songs. Thanks for reacting to this, hope to see more of her on the channel. FYI.. our cool guy Barry Gibb is a prolific song writer and wrote a great song for her and sang with her as a duet. "guilty".
She was a great actress too
Truly a legend. Her voice is epic. She is phenominal.
She's amazing. Always has been
Gives me goosebumps every time! Her husband, James Brolin whom she’s been married to for over 25yrs, was on a morning show today and still absolutely gushes over her!
A once in a generation talent. Hearing her voice is like going home.
An absolute world treasure! Goosebumps always!
Yes. Celine said Barbra is her biggest influence.
I love Barbra Streisand! ❤
That’s Barbra amazing talent.
Gonna tell you again, check duet between Barbra Streisand and Donna Sommer (Queen of Disco), “No More Tears”. It will blow your mind - I want to watch your surprise. Two female powerhouses who bring together their different styles.
The most beautiful voice in musicsl history.
Barbra is THE best! There's so much more for you to discover.
This is from West Side Story (Leonard Bernstein). It’s a riveting story - a modern take on Romeo & Juliet. Check it out.
Seriously dope movie. Old & new
Version both.
