Tolkien was still revising the Silmarillion when he passed away. As published may be the last coherent version written down, but it's certainly not how he saw Middle-earth by the end of his life. As it turned out, Amazon fired Thomas Alan Shippey. English professor of literature, philology and writer. He worked and taught at Oxford, Leeds and St. Louis Universities, where he studied medieval literature, science fiction and fantasy. He is one of the most authoritative researchers of Tolkien's work on the planet. Mariana Rios Maldonado was chosen to take his place as Tolkien's "chief consultant". Not at all a specialist in Tolkien's work, but a student at the University of Glasgow where she writes a doctoral thesis on "Ethics, Femininity and other issues in the stories of J.R.R. Middle-earth". Tolkien". She also serves as overseer of the Diversity and Equality student committee. She publicly states that she considers Tolkien's works "problematic", that they glorify racial inequality, sexism and chauvinism. And his works are loved by people adhering to neo-fascist views. She considers herself morally and intellectually superior to Tolkien, and therefore works tirelessly to turn the Myths of Arda into a modern, adapted and corrected version that will appeal to everyone.

Why not scrap that, and just say "Well technically Tolkien never wrote this, and focus groups certainly think its important." Perhaps the fact that this is visual story telling, and thus respecting visual language creates a sense of fidelity which reaches a for a wider audience. The elves were not able to defeat Morgoth, that's why so many had to retreat back to Valinor. It's said in the story that Eärendil went to Valinor to beg for the help of the Valar on behalf of both Elves and Men that the War of Wrath was unleashed and Morgoth defeated. So Elves could not do it, not by themselves. They tried, for centuries. Mandos warned them it was hopeless, but the rebellious Noldor tried anyway.

Indeed this strangeness they have that no Man nor Elf has ever seen a beardless Dwarf - unless he were shaven in mockery, and would then be more like to die of shame than of many other hurts that to us would seem more deadly. For the Naugrim have beards from the beginning of their lives, male and female alike; nor indeed can their womenkind be discerned by those of other race, be it in feature or in gait or in voice, nor in any wise save this: that they go not to war, and seldom save at direst need issue from their deep bowers and halls. This comes from posthumously published scraps of paper where he jotted his thoughts, which he often changed his mind about. It's not the same as being canonical. Later still, Tolkien wrote that "All male dwarves have them", implying females did not. All they have to go on is what he actually chose to publish in the Appendices. Give them a little leeway, it's not the end of the world either way.
This reminds me of the debates before the Jackson movies on whether elves had pointy ears and whether Balrogs had wings. In the end, that stuff matters far less than the plot and spirit intended by the production. The plot and spirit is what we still know the least about, and dwarven beards have very little relationship to it.
