Also from ventura if you guys know of any hot spots let me know. Killed it on rock fish a couple weeks ago but want to get into some bigger rocks and ling. First year with our own boat so still trying to find some spots.
Good information. Going 4/7 fishing San Diego and I’m sure I’m going to get plenty. Ling’s eat those big plastics? I’ve been keeping small rockfish on the line and sometimes I get bit sometimes I don’t. Learned that from fishing Morro Bay area. Makes sense the heavier line will drift out. Drop 100# braid bft fishing and you’ll see your jig drift away from the boat. Totally makes sense. What do you think of 40# braid dropping down with 16oz.? Yes bumb bump bump and reel up for sure.
I definitely love this series of fishing in SoCal I was the most interested in the jigs and I was looking online and everyone is using a slow pitch rod I was just wondering if I can fish the vertical jig and that slow pitch on that same rod you used with the penn fathom just wondering especially because I don’t want to buy extra gear before I even like slow pitch or vertical jigs thank you 🙏
It's really personal preference, but we recommend fishing straight braid to your leader since it'll cut through the water much better than a long topshot of mono/fluoro. Just use as much fluoro as you need to make your rigs!
I’m just getting into fishing and I like your content. But I find it very hard to grasp most of your instructional videos because of all the “fishing slang” aka jargon that you use when describing techniques. It’s not just you, it’s every fishing channel I watch.
Great Info, lots of real nuggets in all your videos! greetings from Ventura!!
That’s right I’m from Ventura too let’s fish
@@stylewars9 let's! I'm currently re-wiring my skippy getting all dialed in. I'm game, let me know

Good luck out there!

You can fish them on a normal rod.
Could you share some rules of thumb for choosing levelwind, star, or lever drag for different applications? Thank you!
Thanks for the suggestion
Levelwind reel for sure.
What length of leader/top shot of floro for these deep water rockfish applications ?

We’re do I buy the 810ml rod?
You may want to use 7’-7’6’ rods instead for rockfish. You never see people fishing anything longer than an 8’ on boats.
