Good points, any slab I grade/buy is done so understanding I might own it for a very long time. Crazy PSA 9 is a legit card that on a good day could receive a PSA 10,
Interesting observation. I am grading a lot less these days and see that declining to almost nothing in 2024 unless prices get down to the $10 mark. I do think grading volumes will come down significantly in 2024.
I think the volume will come down a lot in 2024 too. I can't image people continuing to grade at the rate they are now as the value of so many of those cards they are grading ends up below the price they paid for grading in the first place.
The grading numbers are slightly artificial with so many people doing junk slab mystery products like Omega, CCG, Zoo Packs ect. As long as people keep buying that trash the numbers will probably stay up there.
@@cacsports They are just companies you'll find on like Walmart and Amazon selling mystery products with like a picture of a PSA 10 Jordan rookie on the front of the box and all you get out of it is junk no name 7's and 8's lol. They send in thousands of $2-5 cards at a time just to keep putting junk in their boxes which delays all of our submissions.
Raw and PSA 9 prices are getting closer, but mostly they tend still towards the PSA 8s, at least for the cards I bought lately. But with everything comin down anyway the spread closes. You are so right, of the 1 Million cards graded 999k will end up between 1 and 5 USD. The only ones makin a profit are the grading companies.
I don’t know how people don’t realize there’s a massive ultra modern bubble. But now it’s becoming more obvious there’s a grading bubble. Fast forward 20 years and cards with slabs will be more annoying than 89 Bowman
I think logically this was an obvious progression for the market… with clear over production and saturation, the market is trying to correct with a new barrier or scarcity. PSA10 is the market reaction to millions of silvers being produced

too many people are grading for sunk cost fallacy. If they are down, its better to sell raw then spend time and money to grade things that have dropped in price due to lowered demand.
You may be very right. It makes some sense psychology that people may be grading to dig their way out of the money they've lost as the value of their cards have gone down. But, yeah, instead, their just sinking more cost into something that is just continuing to sink in value. Not a wise path forward.
When you’re talking a card that’s twenty years old then a 8 is def worth a decent amount more. I would only worry about recently printed cards, even then it all depends on the card itself. Prizm as a example is more difficult to find a centered card, thicker cards like immaculate rarely grade as well.
The junk slab era is upon us, hard to beleive how much value goes into just the slab. I guess people are just lqiuidiating what they can - sunk cost fallacy not holding that trend back now. The industry standard has always been that a raw card normally sells for the same a s aPSA 7 (or was it an 8?) but I think with that much stuff out there now peopel who are into the graded stuff only want 10s. 10 or bust, or has been said in the past "If you ain't first, you're last".
The psychology of the card grading game is wild. And yeah, mass liquidation def seems to be a thing too. If I liked collecting graded cards for the PC, I'd be loading up on PSA 9's for the PC right now. I just prefer raw though.
The other point worth mentioning is that I can understand the glut of graded cards from aroudn the COVID boom, but not sure why anyone would grade veteran player base cards of role players from 2022 - 2023. With all sincerity, how much of a premium is a PSA10 Mike Muscala Hoops card going to go for?

That's one of the crazy things in my mind. The difference between a PSA 9 and a PSA 10 is so often seemingly no difference at all.

@@scoaAgree - if you are trying to make a profit grading ultra modern cards, it is virtually impossible at the current rates.

@@Phlegm187 I have no idea what you are talking about with Omega, Zoo, etc. but it doesn't surprise me that there are other graded options out there.

I think you're absolutely right. Manufacturing scarcity in a market where manufactured scarcity already made nothing scarce.

How about psa 8 2002-03 topps pristine gold refractor? Is it more valuable than raw?
You'd have to check the ebay comps on the specific card if your wanting the answer to that one.

For flippers it really is going into the toilet. PC is good though :) Cheap cards!
