    If anything, the more prisms and variations there are, the more rare and valuable things are going to be. Just because there are four one of ones, doesn't make them any less valuable...

    • @scoa

      That's one way of looking at it. I appreciate different perspectives. It would admit that it does make the parallels less 'obscure', which might help them long term in some ways.

    People paying crazy money for 90s inserts but most were never sent in to be graded and are just waiting to pop up in the market at some point.

    • @scoa
      @scoa  3 года назад

      Yeah, some of them did go crazy high during last year's craze. But I think the market has settled back down on some of those cards. There may still be some waiting to hit the market, but once those do, likely the pop count will stay there and not get too much higher. Product from the last year or two will probably have pop counts that just keep skyrocketing for quite some time still.

    Thanks! Harkens back to our short discussion about the first two years of WNBA Prizm (esp. 2020). Only a few colored and numbered parallels with relatively low print runs all around. Might be good to hold long-term, compared to NBA.
    Still, I’ll continue to collect the green parallels for ☘️. 😃

    • @scoa
      @scoa  3 года назад

      Yeah, I don't think the over produced color parallels would effect the WNBA cards in any way. Those cards had a much shorter print run overall, so they can't really flood the market. The supply is short. The demand is currently also pretty small, but if the demand does gradually uptick, they could be pretty good long term holds, I think. Some of the single cards prices on the newest year are pretty high right now though I think.

  • @custum18
    @custum18 3 года назад +1

    Why do you think it took 25 years for cards to come back after the junk wax crash? They needed new generations of kids who didn't know about the last crash and weren't burned by it.

    • @scoa
      @scoa  3 года назад +1

      And enough old timers who got struck with nostalgia. I worry with the prices the way they are, that not a kid of kids can afford the hobby anymore. That worries me a bit for the future of the hobby.

    • @scoa
      @scoa  3 года назад +1

      I do think Silvers will last. Likely Gold too. And I also think the Jersey match trend seems like something that could stick around too. I hope it does, cuz that's one of the few times I really like the look of the color parallel, personally. I'm less sure about some of those other ones. But it is possible.

  • @guywilliams6569
    @guywilliams6569 3 года назад

    I think you're just a hater if they didn't make all the different colored parallels, there wouldn't be any scarcity!!! this is a brilliant way of keeping things valuable and avoiding a junk wax era like the 90s.. I swear, you haters, you're always looking for things to crash or whatever, it's ridiculous!

    • @scoa
      @scoa  3 года назад

      I think scarcity could be accomplished, and often times is accomplished, in more creative ways. Patches, autos, more scarce inserts, etc. I don't think things are gonna crash or anything, not sure where you got that from the video, I just think things will adjust as they find better ways to do things. I'm glad you like the color parallel trend, I just don't personally like it much.

  • @guywilliams6569
    @guywilliams6569 3 года назад

    If you make this video or you support this video, I expect you to sell all of your color parallels at the same value that you would a base card, right?? Because you're not into this for the money, you're just into it for the love of looking at dudes in pictures, right?

    • @scoa
      @scoa  3 года назад

      I'm sorry, but this comment doesn't make logical sense to me. The video is pretty specifically about something to think about so that you do make more money long term. I just don't think the long term value will hold as well with the cards I'm talking about here.

    • @guywilliams6569
      @guywilliams6569 3 года назад

      @@scoa well compared to a situation where there are no colored parallels, as far as long-term value goes, things would be killed again like they were in the 90s.. the parallels are what's going to keep things going.

    • @scoa
      @scoa  3 года назад

      @@guywilliams6569 I think that if they were done in moderation, like they were done for many years, they'd be a great addition in the mix, and would be great. But I think they are too all pervasive now. As they get too everywhere and paralleling everything, I think a lot of people are going to want to start looking for their scarce, long term valuable cards in other ways. I think that'll make the value of the less iconic color parallels decrease. You can also see it happening with some of the stuff like some of the flash and shimmer stuff. Some of the, like, neon-green die cuts in football select can be found for the same price as base cards. I just bought a few pulsar prizms recently for less than the base cards normally cost. I think that over time the less sought serial numbered stuff will have the same thing happen. But I think the more iconic of the bunch will do well. Silvers, golds, maybe greens (since they've been around since all this started), maybe some other stuff too like the cosmics. But I think a lot of the other parallels won't do well long term. Short term they might, which is why when I do get my hands on them, I sell them pretty quickly. I don't think they're good ones to hold on to for the long term though.

  • @guywilliams6569
    @guywilliams6569 3 года назад

    Anyone pretending like they don't do this for money, that they're just trying to collect, needs to go ahead and stop all that lying.. even if you've been collecting consistently for the last 20 years, you do it because you want your cards to be valuable, not because you're just chasing loser players...

    • @scoa
      @scoa  3 года назад

      You certainly have a lot of opinions sparked from this video! Good! I'd largely agree with you on this statement, sort of. I do think people's motivations are more complex and diverse than just money, but making money in this has always been and will always be part of the whole thing. But I'm not sure why the video would make you think I was saying something otherwise.

      That's wild. Just think if they listed off the checklist of cards for one set nowadays, card by card. The list for one single card would just keep going and going. It'd be a long website.
