Hi my name is Emily and I am a plant based weight loss specialist. I was a previous health chef in San Diego where I built my own meal prep business and then transitioned to a private home health chef. I came out with an exclusive sauce book (plant based and oil free)- because flavor takes plant based eating to the next level! I am trained in the McDougall program and base my lifestyle and my weight loss program off of the Starch Solution. I now work full time with clients 1:1 or in my quarterly group challenges for weight loss and anti inflammatory. Learn more by following my instagram page @plantversed

    Fat Free Gravy Recipe:
    INGREDIENTS
    2 cups veggie broth
    2 tbsp arrowroot powder
    2 tbsp soy sauce
    1 tsp maple syrup
    2-3 tbsp nutritional yeast
    1 tsp onion powder
    1 tsp garlic powder
    1 tsp mustard powder
    2 tsp onion salt
1+ tbsp dried herbs (ex: sage, thyme, oregano, chives, Italian seasoning)
    1 tsp salt
    1/2 tsp pepper
    DIRECTIONS
    1. In a small separate bowl, whisk the arrowroot powder and 1 tbsp of water together until smooth
    2. Now add all your ingredients to a small/medium saucepan including the arrowroot mixture
    3. Bring the gravy mixture to a boil, then reduce to a low simmer. Continue whisking until the gravy mixture has thickened, about 2-3 minutes.
    4. Continue simmering and whisking until desired thickness.
    5. The gravy should be smooth and pourable at this point.
Note: You can use corn starch, tapioca starch or flour in substitution of the arrowroot powder

I agree with Emily about nuts. So many people are afraid to eat even an ounce of nuts per day because of all the fear mongering that can occur in the plant based community about nuts and seeds. I understand that for some individuals even one nut can be a trigger. For me, if I remove a whole food group like nuts, I am more likely to overeat it if I get my hands on it. So I allow myself small amounts each day. I follow Dr. Dean Ornish’s suggestion (from his web site) to have 3 servings per day of nuts and/or seeds that equal or are under 3 grams of fat per serving. One low-fat food serving (less then 3 GM fat) equals :5 almonds, or 9 pistachios, or 1 whole walnut, or 3 pecan halves, or 2 cashews. Or 6 peanuts (no shell) or 2.5 tsp flax seed ground, or 2 tsp chia seed or sunflower seed, shelled, or 1.5 tsp pumpkin seed Three or less servings from low fat foods or nuts can be included per day. This suggestion works for me and so I can have nuts and or seeds with each meal and not over do it.

I am also on that same page regarding nuts. Have found if I have a few each day like sprinkled on my salad-stretches it quite a lot then I don’t see weight gain if I only have them once a year. Thank you for commenting on this!

Not sure what I did, but for me too much pepper and salt. Like to balance the herbs somehow. Not bad!

It wouldn't be surprised if eating the way we eat might have prevented her from her earlier health issues. Since it is less inflammatory, one would probably have, overall, less all types of health issues. I know this has been true for me.

I love so many recipes from our plant based people but why must nutritional yeast (toxic stuff) go in every recipe? Research nutritional yeast. It’s not nutritional.

Don't include things such as cabbage, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli. They can cause your broth to turn bitter
