Well.. There was that one time that the fandom hated one artist because they drew Connie's nose "wrong". They started throwing unalive comments in there too, I think that was the more impactful event in making the fandom hated by outside people.
Okay, I love Steven Universe and it's one of the shows that built my senior highschool days. But i never got myself in the fandom for a lot of reasons. The value of the show literally promotes kindness and compassion towards others but the fandom itself is the total opposite of what the show wants to relay. It's almost the same as the MHA fandom.
Ive loved su since I was a kid and i really just think people hate it because... it's optimistic? Like yeah it has some flaws I'm not gonna deny that but it's not as much of a sugarbowl as people think. It was mainly anti war and pacifist, and had a lot of interesting discussions about the ethics of change. It's hippie, yes, but that doesn't diminish its worth.
Nah the fandom was hella toxic, like a child artist nearly taking their own life cause people attacked them cause the fanart had rose with a slightly smaller waist line. Or how a big creator bully and attacked a terminally ill child and had his just insane steven universe fans attack the kid cause they got to see the big finale or some big episode early and talked about it on twitter cause they got excited. The kid had to apologize for “spoiling and leaking” the episode to try and stop the hate while the youtuber (00:30 the man on the left) made some bullshit excuse that he got upset how the kid “went against the creator wishes and spoiled/leak the episode” like bro was trying to justify hating on a terminally ill child And worse of all the fandom was just pure toxicity and made even the normal people in the fandom to hate the show cause of this.
@@user-burner i mean there was that small few people but not a lot, it was just the extremely toxic fandom (i would say even more toxic than the undertale fandom, which i was both part of) that got everyone hating it at first until it snowballed cause there would be adults and kids attacking other kids for the smallest of things until they run off or try to take their life it stopped being fun and people started hating it and were looking for any other reason to hate the show
@@lalathellama3793 I mean that is possible I wasn't in the fandom and never have been but I've heard like a lot more bullying and toxicity from SU haters than from fans. Maybe it's just the side of yt I'm on though.

People never understood future. I did. People were like "Bluebird azurite didn't return! We needed an overarching villain!" When that wasn't the point of Eyeball and Aquamarine. It was to show Steven that no matter what, there will always be people out there that hate you, where it doesn't even matter if you fix every problem in the universe, they'll still hate you. As for the lapises, they were to show that you shouldn't just give up on people because they are resistant, where yes, there will be people who will never understand, but eventually you can get through to some of them.
I understand steven universe future you pretentious a-holes But do I want THOSE hater and THOSE obsessive fans down my back like you are now? No And even still it didn't properly finish the story because it was rushed. Wonder why?
@@fried_fries to be fair, the whole show by the end of the 5th season and all throughout Future was so obviously rushed that stuff like that had to be ignored in order to actually fit their schedule. Not saying that White Diamond not even getting a slap on the wrist is good writing, but it's not like we had a choice in what we were being given.

It’s a lot of the ‘behind the scenes’ stuff about the show that everyone was very upset about. The show itself was meh, but the fandom was insane and the creator didn’t know what they were doing with the show half the time.
Lily Orchard has done permanant damage to Steven Universe's reputation. I tried watching their video but I had to leave halfway through bc they just got everything wrong and it was infuriating
I remember when Steven universe came out and the first season nobody cared about the show at all. It wasn't until the end that everyone learned that Garnet was basically a lesbian couple that shit started kicking up. Then they all started hyper focusing on how sexualized fusions were and started picking apart episodes as soon as they came out. It felt like if a new episode came out, there were at least a couple hundred people posting hate videos a day that were completely unwarranted. Then the whole Garnet marriage basically put a nail in the coffin for the show. If the show hadn't become popular and still had it's small starting audience, I feel like they could've done that episode and been perfectly fine.
I think the reason why has nothing to do with the show itself but how toxic the fandom was i.e. when they drove an artist to suicide for drawing Rose too thin and when that guy from The Round Tabble openly attacked a cancer patient for getting permission from Rebecca Sugar to watch an episode early and leaking details on twitter despite him watching leaked episodes and reviewing them and conjuring theories openly instead of telling people not to watch them.
Even if I really didn’t enjoy the show and had problems with it (especially with the plot) I didn’t really hate the show even if the fandom was cringe, the media and its fandom can be totally separated
There's a lot to not like about Stephen universe most of it revolves around rose quartz and pink diamond because it's such an integral part of the show that's trying to force itself down your throat. to tell you that these people are good people when they are clearly not, to the point that it feels like the show is trying, and failing, to gaslight you, and everything else suffers because of it because it's the catalyst for everything that happens. If they just went full throttle into rose quartz and pink diamond being a bad person then there wouldn't have been nearly as much hate. Imo.
idk about you but after the Pink Diamond reveal, the entire show pivots towards talking about how Rose Quartz/PD was horrible, abusive and a liar and how every single gem she associated with were traumatized by this. The existence of characters like Volleyball and Spinel entirely revolve around how Pink Diamond's actions literally ...psychologically ruined them. Did we even watch the same show?
I think it’s due to the fact that members in the fandom itself were some of the most toxic individuals you could find and would often cannibalize each other metaphorically. One girl drew rose thin and she got so much hate that she nearly killed herself. I’m he show’s creator spoke out against this reaction and the members of the fandom attempted to defame her. Than there’s how 4 chan made them all look like hypocritical fools and yeah
Dont forget a big creator for reviewing and talking about steven universe theories started to tweek over a terminally ill child for “leaking and spoiling” the big finale- ish episode… like bro was straight up attacking her and got his crazy steven universe fans to attack her and she had to apologize to everyone, saying she didnt meant to leak and got excited for seeing it early :/
@@ryanmaclean1720 yeah it feels weird how he just waters it down and calls it cringe when they legit were attacking one another for any reason, until people try taking their own life or chased away, anyways the haters of the show and fandom is majorly ex fans that was tired of the toxicity and finding any reason to hate on it, hell even the creator wasnt saved from the hate from both side, im glad they calmed down but the fandom was and probably the most toxic community to be in during that period (i was basically there for the whole thing as a kid cause i like the show, i seen some stuff)
People who do stuff like that just need to get off their crusty ipads and go outside because no one over the age of 10 should get that mad over the way a fictional character looks
I truly don't know, maybe undertale didn't have that much hate taken how good it was (yes i know that steven universe was also critically liked, but not as much)
Steven universe literally had a cute, chill and easygoing vibe with sprinkles of serious and emotional moments. This show does not deserve this much hate, it's a show that talks about love, forgiveness, and understanding and to be honest. Our world needs some of that at the moment.
I could imagine that this is fandom hatred is just slumbering in all the sane ppl. It just has to be awakened sometimes and the steven universe fandom rants did a great job of waking up the people. But there are too many unhinged fandoms nowadays and sometimes you just grow tired and realize that hating on fandoms is a life of loss of faith in humanity and negative emotions. So most sane people stopped at steven universe and started to ignore the rest. Its just not worth the stomach ulcer. Peace.
Lily Orchard's video on steven universe caused the first few hate waves to the show, it's a really bad video that blatantly fails to grasp the story, ignores story beats, and she flat out calls rebecca sugar (the creator) a n*zi despite her being jewish and also queer. Its an awful video that was so extremely damaging to the fandom and public perception of the show. Lets not forget this show actually had gay marriage on screen and actually cared about lgbtq relationships. Its a genuinely good show and the hate for it is mindless.
For something to be loved you have to make people feel nostalgic about it, like a nice memory, you can see this for a lot of things. From the Star wars prequels to Minecraft itself.
It's almost like every time I see one of your shorts, it's just such a take that everyone knows the answer to. You can't help these poor things you're protecting.
I mean having a show about a kid forgiving colorful space nazi’s who spent all their screen time trying to kill his moms might make people alittle upset
I hated it cause too much filler. i liked the lore despite it having so many plot holes in it and inconsistent character growth (look at yellow dimond and lapis). The lore episodes were interesting, plus im still not getting over the concrete gem 😂😂😂 the fact that concrete gem was made by a black person too is wild
I would like to argue that the show has significantly less filler than people think. Especially the first season. The show was very slice of life at the time but almost every episode introduced a new location, character, concept or lore tidbit that would become important later on. It was a really good way to set up a show with so much plot regarding the past without doing exposition.
I guess it depends on your definition of filler Personally, for me a non-filler episode doesn't need to actively push the main plot forward, just as long as it expands its characters, character relationships, and power progression it's not filler
I knew very well that the topic would be connected to Undertale... But there was a song that the Undertale fandom stole from Steven Universe, I think the name of the song was Stronger than You.
Undertale was and is a masterpiece; written & composed by 1 person with an insane amount of passion Steven’s universe is a fully funded show, that while it’s leapt over taboos and came up with interesting concepts, also came with irredeemable villains that have eradicated races being loved by the end (something something toxic positivity). There’s also many characters model inconsistencies I do not hate the show, but it’s not exclusively due to queer representation that it’s gotten criticism, undertale has a canon main cast lesbian couple as well.
1. The community was verrrrry toxic, to the point of bullying a child with cancer because he wanted to watch a season of the show early 2. The creator drew CP of cartoon characters I don't think this is why everyone was hating on it but it should be
The peak of Steven Universe hate was like getting the power of all the stupid and extreme hate the Sonic franchise got after 06 and put it all into one place. Like hate for both of them were so insanely hyperbolised it was crazy
Steven Universe was even hated by the fans cause its an inconsistent mess with really bad messages such as: "Dont forgive ugly people! But Forgive literal Space Nzis"
They kind of fumble on rose and pink diamond tho, like the only diamond seeing every life as important yet she gets treated like a villain than the actual people who were traumatizing her, colonizing war diamonds, thats like my opinion. Tho future sucks completely made no sense and the movie with the fusion with steven and his dad gave me the creeps
I actually did watch one of those essays a long time ago, they didnt really complain about the show itself, rather they complained about the creators weird schedulings and being inconsistent with things and also i guess some drama the creator had with Cartoon Network, but yeah i wont lie i was on that bandwagon for those reasons before i saw the video
Both the show and the fans deserve every bit of criticism they got. The show was lame tbh, and the fans.......the fans. Cringe does not begin to describe the fans lol😂.
It breaks my heart that such a lovely show gets trashed by everyone because of the toxic assholes 💔 Like stop hating on the show because of the fans, you don't have to join a fandom just cause you watch a show.
I remember after a particularly devastating breakup that I got into the fandom solely because I related to Spinel, and then it spiraled from there into my obsession with the diamonds. I made a shit ton of comics and was more invested in lore of gemkind than anything involving Steven, The show would’ve been so much better without him.
Ok so the thing is that Undertale and its fandom never tried to pretend to be anything but a rancid cringefest. They owned it. However, the show, fandom AND CREATORS of Steven Universe all unironically considered it not just a good show, but a Morally Good. Concept(tm). That’s why it was, justifiably, hated. Highly cringe but somehow on the world’s tallest moral high horse about its own existence. (Source: was in both fandoms at their peak)

The version where she says "kids be racist" will forever be stuck in my mind
@@chada4806It was still painfully cringy and preachy, there is a reason cartoons stopped with the whole 'X says' trend, because no one likes it. Also the sequel with Pearl was straight up spreading false information about the creator of the lightbulb and credited the wrong man just because he was black and invented the filament, therefore he should be credited for the creation of lightbulb instead of a white guy, which is just wrong.
@@BRAZILIAN_MIKU yea cuz then they said "CUT!" as if racism was something that only happens on film sets.
I was born too late for SpongeBob and regular show but too early for Steven universe and the loud house, so gumball and gravity falls were the main shows I used to watch
I hate loud house lol
And even though i'm way younger than you,i watch all the other shows you said here.
Same lol
But weren't at least three of these shows airing during at around the same time?
@@GreenThingermabob my mom didn’t want me watching SpongeBob and regular show was a little too adult for me at the time, but gumball and gravity falls were a good middle ground. The way I said it does sound weird tho
Well.. There was that one time that the fandom hated one artist because they drew Connie's nose "wrong". They started throwing unalive comments in there too, I think that was the more impactful event in making the fandom hated by outside people.
I like the cartoon and the music, that's why I stay away from the community/fandom. They can ruin something you like/might like.
They told a artist to kill themselves, made them go insane, and ruined her life
Because she drew a character skinny
Half of the songs were such a banger though 😭

Okay, I love Steven Universe and it's one of the shows that built my senior highschool days. But i never got myself in the fandom for a lot of reasons.
The value of the show literally promotes kindness and compassion towards others but the fandom itself is the total opposite of what the show wants to relay. It's almost the same as the MHA fandom.
It was the fanbase that was toxic, not the show. They couldn’t differentiate between reality and fiction.
hating is a inf money glitch in itself
Cold.

Tbh, the fandom is cringe, but that show built my childhood
yeah in my childhood its weird at garnet dances
That's depressing.
😂@@Gloryholrr
ur.... childhood??
damn... that's sad
EXACTLY
Nah the fandom was hella toxic, like a child artist nearly taking their own life cause people attacked them cause the fanart had rose with a slightly smaller waist line.
Or how a big creator bully and attacked a terminally ill child and had his just insane steven universe fans attack the kid cause they got to see the big finale or some big episode early and talked about it on twitter cause they got excited. The kid had to apologize for “spoiling and leaking” the episode to try and stop the hate while the youtuber (00:30 the man on the left) made some bullshit excuse that he got upset how the kid “went against the creator wishes and spoiled/leak the episode” like bro was trying to justify hating on a terminally ill child
And worse of all the fandom was just pure toxicity and made even the normal people in the fandom to hate the show cause of this.
I think people hated it because it had gay people tbh
I was an innocent kid, and just loved the show. I didn't care about orientations and sh1t, I was just intrigued at the concept and powers.
The black diamond thing is actually a joke oc. It was a parody of how others did their oc's.
my favorite video about steven universe was the theory about Sans being Steven after he died of cancer, it will always have a spot in my mind until I croak

Steven universe storyline slapped
I shall provide no comments on Steven Universe Future
Trauma. That's SUF. Repercussions of trauma.
I understand steven universe future you pretentious a-holes
But do I want THOSE hater and THOSE obsessive fans down my back like you are now? No
And even still it didn't properly finish the story because it was rushed. Wonder why?
You just gonna ignore how white diamond was so easily forgiven?
@@fried_fries to be fair, the whole show by the end of the 5th season and all throughout Future was so obviously rushed that stuff like that had to be ignored in order to actually fit their schedule. Not saying that White Diamond not even getting a slap on the wrist is good writing, but it's not like we had a choice in what we were being given.
One story that I remember is that an artist was cursed and threatened so much because of how they drew Rose, that they deleted themselves and it was a big thing at the time, so uh yeah, thats fking crazy
WHA?! ROSE😨? SHES SO PRETTY BRO
They're not dead...and even then that's a fucked up way of saying they committed suicide.
@@lifeisadrag7705 I wasnt trying to be rude in any way, I was trying to say it in the most pg 13 way possible, but even so Im sorry if I made you feel bad by saying it like that.
@@WaffelWuffel Just be careful about your language when regarding topics like this please. You don't have to apologize to me personally, just be aware. Most children 13+ know what suicide is, you don't have to sanitize it.
Not him mentioning the Lily video ewww 😭
It’s a lot of the ‘behind the scenes’ stuff about the show that everyone was very upset about. The show itself was meh, but the fandom was insane and the creator didn’t know what they were doing with the show half the time.
I didn't even know people hated the show until like last year, I like it personally.
Gotta get the bag bro
Ride that hate train if you know what i mean
Most of them weren't even offended just riding the hate train
How is it that almost everything I like has been torn apart by the internet, like, I have a god damn list of this stuff
E;R's video (the "boundless tolerance" one that you showed) was reasonable because the entire video was comments that he got from fans of the show
Isn't E;R pretty anti-semitic and said stuff like Rebecca is a nazi sympathizer...?
Even if I really didn’t enjoy the show and had problems with it (especially with the plot) I didn’t really hate the show even if the fandom was cringe, the media and its fandom can be totally separated
There's a lot to not like about Stephen universe
most of it revolves around rose quartz and pink diamond because it's such an integral part of the show that's trying to force itself down your throat.
to tell you that these people are good people when they are clearly not, to the point that it feels like the show is trying, and failing, to gaslight you, and everything else suffers because of it because it's the catalyst for everything that happens.
Every time you say “studied in a lab” I can feel my inner Deedus take more control of my brain 🧠
@@lalathellama3793 forgot about that. This show's fans were ferral
DON’T GET ME STARTED ON THE FCKING OWL HOUSE FANDOM 😨
It and hazbin hotel, both are just crazy cringe and stupid(when I say it I am referring to owl house, not the movie it )
The Owl House is actually pretty solid compared to some other shows. 💀
Bro what did we do?
@@BlackRabbitt01 I don't know, but your show is just the definition of brain rot
Owl house fandom was pritty chill, especially since disney unfairly cut the show short because of the show haveing a lesbian couple.
Peace.
The one episode where the fry mascot came to life scarred me so I stopped watching the show. No idea why people hate it so much.
I love the show but the fan base was pretty cancerous.
The gosh darn Steven universe haven’t herd that name since 2019
Bro acting like undertale was spared
Steven universe fandom likes the feeling of their sins climbing on their back
For something to be loved you have to make people feel nostalgic about it, like a nice memory, you can see this for a lot of things.

I guess it depends on your definition of filler
Personally, for me a non-filler episode doesn't need to actively push the main plot forward, just as long as it expands its characters, character relationships, and power progression it's not filler
I knew very well that the topic would be connected to Undertale... But there was a song that the Undertale fandom stole from Steven Universe, I think the name of the song was Stronger than You.
Undertale was and is a masterpiece; written & composed by 1 person with an insane amount of passion
Steven’s universe is a fully funded show, that while it’s leapt over taboos and came up with interesting concepts, also came with irredeemable villains that have eradicated races being loved by the end (something something toxic positivity). There’s also many characters model inconsistencies
I do not hate the show, but it’s not exclusively due to queer representation that it’s gotten criticism, undertale has a canon main cast lesbian couple as well.
Nah, something was up when I noticed them gyrating and then Amethyst straight up dove into Garnet's kitty as she spread her legs >.>
NAHHH NOT THE ROBOT ANALYSIS GUY I USED TO BINGE THOSE VIDEOS 😭😭😭😭
1. The community was verrrrry toxic, to the point of bullying a child with cancer because he wanted to watch a season of the show early

every fandom has its odd side
The peak of Steven Universe hate was like getting the power of all the stupid and extreme hate the Sonic franchise got after 06 and put it all into one place.
Like hate for both of them were so insanely hyperbolised it was crazy
Steven Universe was even hated by the fans cause its an inconsistent mess with really bad messages such as: "Dont forgive ugly people! But Forgive literal Space Nzis"
Like I get that SU’s art style was inconsistent but the LORE???? I love the show soooo much, Steven universe future sucks tho
They kind of fumble on rose and pink diamond tho, like the only diamond seeing every life as important yet she gets treated like a villain than the actual people who were traumatizing her, colonizing war diamonds, thats like my opinion. And that Rebecca Sugar is a pdf file that drew nsfw Ed Edd and Eddy.
I'm pretty sure it wasn't Rebecca but it was an animator working on the show
@nachoxaverage that was a different animator, not Rebecca Sugar herself.
