In this experimental tutorial screenprinting video you'll learn all about how flexible and dynamic the screen printing process is. In this fun demonstration we will use nothing more than a screen, a squeegee and some ink to print cylindrical objects like cups, bottles, mugs, tins, and more. This is a very cool example of how universal the screenprinting process is. With the correct ink and curing methods almost anything can be screen printed. Follow along as Jonathan discusses this process and even shares his thoughts on where screenprinting is headed and how direct to garment DTG will affect us. Is screen printing dead? Will there be a market for manually screen printed products locally in the future? Hear what we have to say in this educational video suitable for anyone interested in how screen printing works. Check out our cool skull and bones bottles we temporarily made to show you this cool method. It's always guaranteed to be a good time when you learn how to screen print with Catspit Productions online.

I already knew that technique .... but you're giving us the love of screen printing at each video ... you're the best Jon ... never change that fun you have to print !!!
Thanks to be YOU !
Thank you. I appreciate the kind words. Yes, this is a common method and there are other videos about it on RUclips. I just love teaching screenprinting and sharing the versatility of it. It’s such a fun process to play with even just to toy around ;) I’m glad you appreciate my style. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! www.catspitproductionsllc.com/ - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
Really helpful. I'm a graphic designer looking to illustrate some patterns for a range of facial products, ie, bottles, so understanding this method (which the client says she wants) really helps me know how best to approach the design. Thank you!
Thank you, you're very welcome. I'm glad I could help out. Good luck! Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
I work in a print store that uses a DTG (direct to garment) printer. Whilst both DTG and screen printing have different pros and cons depending on the method, I definitely think screen printing is the way to go. You can't beat a durable screen print. Thanks for the videos, Jonathan!
Yeah DTG is very cool for POS and the units that print small objects are nifty too. But I agree. You’re very welcome, glad you enjoy my video work :) Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! www.catspitproductionsllc.com/ - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/

Thank you for making this video! I have a steel cup that is powder coated, any ideas on ink to print with? Thanks in advance.
You're very welcome. It would be a graphic industrial metal enamel ink perhaps. Maybe air dry or even UV if necessary. You'll want to get one that bonds to the powder coating. It's best to speak with a graphic ink maker. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
amazing video...as usual! thanks for supporting beginners like me. Regards from Brazil

I work as a graphic designer at a company that screen prints on glass for various liquor companies among other types. We use ceramic and UV based inks on our substrates.
Yes, with the correct ink almost anything can be printed. I liked the Grey Goose Christmas print they did a few years back. I almost bough the giant bottle from Costco to feature it in a video. But then I realized I would drink it and thought better not... lol. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/

CatspitProductions .. how we print Ceramic color, on glass bottel..
what r ingredients to mix with ceramic color, how we heat it for permanent color, plz reply
You would need to use an enamel air dry ink or a ceramic ink that needs to be baked for permanency. You'll need to call an industrial graphic screen printing ink maker to ask for the right product for your substrate. Thanks for watching. why logo remove with nail on squeezing bottle screen printing
You need to be sure to use an ink appropriate for your substrate. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
Thanks for the video, very helpful information. I'm new to screen printing and want to print on cylindrical objects like wine glasses, etc. I have seen 1 - 3 or more spot colors on glasses but have never seen 4 color process? I know there are high end glass printing machines which may be able to do it but is it possible with a manual press? Thanks for any help or suggestions.
You're very welcome, glad you enjoyed the video. It's possible with the right set up perhaps but you'll still need a decent amount of equipment. Automatic bottle printers would be better at any multi color print on something like that. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
Hello Catspitscreen, I am so happy to see your video...I have been trying to master this technique of printing glassware... My image is coming out cloudy and muddied...Im using a 230 mesh with enamel ink...I know you said you were just demonstrating but can you direct me to someone who can trouble shoot for me...Ive seen this on some video printers from Mexico but there is no translation.....
No, sorry. I don’t know anyone personally who uses this method. Maybe try a higher mesh count or a different ink. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! www.catspitproductionsllc.com/ - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
Thanks Cat Spit!!

What kind of ink is that?
What ink would you use if you're trying to print on a ceramic mug? thanks for sharing!
A ceramic ink ;) LOL... you need to consult a graphic industrial ink maker to get the appropriate ink for ceramics or glass. Some are air dry while others may need to be baked. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
Hey! I have a question. I have a curved object (guitar case side) that i want to silkscreen on, but it's quite big. How can i apply this method to that situation? Do i move the screen instead, or is there another method for larger objects?
It depends on exactly what you're trying to do there. An oversized screen may be all you need. It's hard to say without being there to figure it out myself. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
Another wow! This saves me a lot of money investing the machine design only for mugs and etc... This is really great! You are so amazing. I enjoy a lot of your video. I have been noticing your screen printing machine and I would like to have one. I can see it's huge and all stainless steel I think? Since I want to maybe take this business to a bigger level, I would like to build or have someone to built it for me. Did you make that machine I don't know what you call it but that blue bulky that holds a lot of your mesh so you can just rotate it and print another color if you want to. Anyway, I hope I didn't confuse you. I'm just learning as much as I can before I will start my own t-shirt business. Thanks in advance and I'm looking forward to your next video. You are so great!
Elvie
Thank you!!! Yes, I sell the equipment. It's called a rotary press. It's enamel panted and baked metal. Check out my offerings here: catspitscreenprintsupply.com/ Feel free to contact me anytime if you have questions. Thanks for watching.
Something tells me he's not using the correct ink...
LOL.... yes sir. I think I say that several times in the video. I just wanted to demonstrate the method. I am a tee shirt printer so I do not have every kind of ink sitting around in the shop. All you need to do is use the appropriate ink for the substrate material you are printing. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
CatspitProductions lol i cant believe you replied!! well i was saying it sarcasticly because you said it so much it was clear.. therefor i said that. But i really appreciate how you actually reply to comments from viewers! thanks!
sertx420x I thought that may have been the case but I always answer with tact. But know I do my very best to answer every comment and question on all of my videos. Always. I miss a few through the new G+ cracks but I get 99% of them done. I'm here for you anytime you need help.... or equipment and supplies ;) You're very welcome and thanks for your support.
LOL
What is the correct ink to print on glass?
And is it available in any color?
Glass jars for candles is what I'm thinking of doing. And will it come off,do I need to heat up. Thanks for the info.
I ordered screen printed ceramic coffee mugs with a logo on them. So far I have seen a few of these cups lose the image that was screened on them (kind of like the ink is chipping off) within a few months of use. Is this normal?
No it is not. When ceramics are screen printed properly, they should last as long as the mug with normal usage and washing. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
I got to ask you a question, what technqiue is used on beer bottles, which seems to last forever, the ink is as resistant as the glass itself it won't go off unless you use a grinder basically... thanks for your input
Usually there are 2 basic types of inks for glass. Enamels, which air dry and then we have the more durable type inks which need to be baked in a special oven to harden and bond with the glass. I'm guessing most of those bottles use the latter ink for durability in packaging so it won't get scratched or "rub off" in boxes. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
I have white powder coated enclosures the I want to screen print myself. Where can I get the framed screen template made for me with the label designs I require?
I really wouldn't know. That's a graphic industrial screen printing application. You might try other suppliers online but I do not make special screens like that. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
What ink do you recommend to print on brown paper bags?
You can use a paper/poster ink. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
Great Video Brother! i Will Try It On Glass Jars See What Happens! What type of ink would i need for glass? You said enamel correct?
+paco6437 Thank you! Yes, there are air dry glass enamel inks and there are those that are more like a glaze that has to be baked after printing. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!
+Farp St You're welcome :) Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
Please what's the best ink to screen print on mugs
You'll need to contact an ink maker and consult them. Some glass and ceramic inks may air dry like an enamel ink or they may need to be baked with heat. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
Thank you for your instruction. but the result logo get some bubbles ( look not smooth). How can we fix it ?
+Nghia Phan Oh yes well in this video I used the incorrect ink. I only did this to demonstrate the method. You need to use the right ink for your substrate. That's why it looks like that. You would need to use an ink for what ever type bottle or glass that you are printing. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
Do you know a good ink to print on plastic? Im trying to print on plastic sunglasses
Dubuit and Nazdar possibly make those types of inks. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
You might've answered this before so please forgive me if it is a repeat...but would you set aside a separate screen just for doing this kind of printing or do the other types of ink not do any harm to your screens?
As long as you can clean the ink off the screen without damaging the stencil you can use different inks with any emulsion for very small runs. For longer print runs it will be important to match the emulsion with the ink type. So if anything it will damage the stencil but not the mesh. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
Great Videos ~ What type of ink do you suggest for metal ~ Thanks !
+Carol Gay Fagerhaugh Thank you! That would be some kind of enamel ink most likely solvent based. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
Hello
i have a question for you.. I have been trying to print on PLASTIC boxes and possibly even Vinyl sticker sheets ; i was wondering what the best INK to use on plastic and or any other surface that is not Fabric garment. I watched your video on printing foam hats and that was helpful ! i am wondering if i shoud purchase Water Based ink, Solvent based ink or just make stickers. Im thinking Water Based Ink will allow me to print on my Vinyl , Plastic, and Foam Trucker hats... Plastisol inks will not work thanks !
You would likely need vinyl ink for plastics and stickers. Foam trucker hats are printed with plastisol inks very easily. Otherwise you'll need specific inks for each different substrate. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
what kind of ink should i use for print on a foam cup ?
I don't know. You need to call a graphic industrial ink maker and ask them about the specific substrate you want to print. They may ask you the chemical name of the material the cup is made of. I'm a textile screen print supplier so I have never printed foam cups. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
what is another term for plastic ink? i cant find it anywhere
Not sure what you mean. There isn't any terminology for inks that bond to plastic as far as I know. There are vinyl inks and others that can be used on different plastics. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
Great video. #kudos

What ink and curing works best? For metal or glass
We would have to consult a graphic industrial ink maker for that answer. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
Would this method work on something like golf balls? If so what type of ink would work the best?
I don’t know. Interesting thought; if it is smooth and large enough perhaps you could roll a sphere and print it. But golf balls I think are typically pad printed due to the dimples. The ink depends on what the substrate is made of. I am a textile printer so I don't know every ink for every item. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! www.catspitproductionsllc.com/ - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
Would you recommend a protective finishing coat on top of the ink so the design will endure washing? If so, what would be used for plastic? Thanks!
Only if necessary. If you use the proper ink, it should bond to the plastic and stay there forever. But this particular bottle could not be put in a dishwasher. It would have to be hand washed due to the plastic not being to take much heat. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
Hi! Would this method work for something like a product label on a bottle? With small text and sentences, etc...
With the correct ink it's possible. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
Very cool video. Have you ever done hats?
Thank you! Yes, I have and I’m actually working on a hat video this week. I am hoping to upload that this Friday if all goes as according to plan. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! www.catspitproductionsllc.com/ - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
What ink do you recommend for plastic bottles and cups?
I'm not sure, my forte is textiles. You would need to consult an ink maker. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
friend, with all your experience ... do you think it is possible or feasible to be able to stamp a bottle completely ... that is 360 ° in practically 100% of the circumference of the bottle to try to use up to three colors? .. do you think it is possible or is it a total disaster? Thank you,
It would be very difficult with this method to say the least. Perhaps possible but maybe not practical either. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
great guy
Thank you!! Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
Would it be possible to use this method to print on something like bic lighters?
I think if you can find the appropriate ink and if you can roll the item then yes, it may be possible. Rounded objects will roll easier of course. An oval shape like a Bic lighter may be a little different. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! www.catspitproductionsllc.com/ - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
Thanks for posting this. I also believe that screen printing isn't going anywhere. I also think that screen printers tend to come up with more and different ways of doing things than people who start out with a DTG machine or heat press. Nothing against those people or methods, I just see screen printing as more of an art that lends itself to cool DIY tricks.
I agree, DTG is cool. But screen printing is faster, cheaper, and more durable with brighter colors and it can print more things with the same equipment. A few attachments or different set ups and a rotary press can print many items besides garments. A DTG cannot do that and I doubt they will make those units universal to print fabrics and other substrates. DTG has its place and digital methods will take over screen printing in other areas like signage, stickers and banners, etc... But screen printing will be around for a long time in one way or another. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! www.catspitproductionsllc.com/ - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
anything that makes kittens happy, makes me happy too :D
LOL... very cool ;) Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
Thanks again for another great video, youre the man! Do you know what kind of ink would be correct for this? ya know if i want to do this then throw it in an oven or something. I don't like the typical sublimation, press technique.
doubleddrummer You're very welcome. You would need a glass enamel air dry ink or a glass ink that needs to be baked. But there should be some air dry enamels that will bond to glass. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
I have to screen print on shot glasses can you show me how I have a you du machine
You would probably have to do it in a similar manner as this on a Yudu. I do not own one myself. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
What ink do you recommend for phone cases or mugs?
Since you'll probably want to print full color designs on those items I recommend a direct digital or sublimation solution. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/

Wonder if u can flip a screen upside down with enamel ink? They aren't as thick
Yes you can. You simply do not load as much ink. I got this method from someone using inks for glass printing bottles. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
