EVERYTHING. Like he didn't miss a single thing. And I know that that was intentional. He knew he didn't mean any of it but had to say it to get her back, because the only thing he said that he actually believes is that he wants her back, that she was the best thing to happen to him.
I can't even imagine how she felt when she listened to that message. It would take all of my power to stay rational, and I don't even have enough confidence in myself to know I would walk away. She's incredibly strong.

3 years ago I got out of an extremely abusive marriage with my husband of almost 10 years. He acted very similar to Alex here. You’re right when you say it’s hard to leave even when it’s so awful and miserable. You don’t know where to go, how you’ll make it, I also had kids so I didn’t want to essentially make them homeless. It got so bad he ended up almost murdering me and cps took my kids due to them being exposed to domestic violence. Even then I only left because cps said I wouldn’t have a chance getting my kids back if I didn’t divorce him. I did and I am so happy now. Yes its much harder to make it in life but I’m happier I’m free I’m a whole different person and I wish I had left a lot sooner than I did. But when you’re in that situation you can’t see past today. I wish people would stop thinking that bipolar means "up one minute, down the next". It's not that at all. It's weeks/months of mania, followed by weeks/months of depression. If your mood changes several times a day, or you blow hot and cold,, or you one minute think someone is amazing and the next think they're awful, that's more like BPD/EUPD. And even then, it's not an excuse, and lots of people with BPD/EUPD are self-aware enough to be able to catch themselves when they're having those difficult emotions and like, not abuse people. But yeah for the love of Gd can we please stop using the word "bipolar" to mean "contradicting"

Thank you for shedding light on the cycles of abuse. As someone who has been in abusive relationship, there is nothing more infuriating to hear than the ignorant phrase "why didn't you leave?" or "just leave him" because it is NOT that simple. Stockholm syndrome is a very real thing and it can be very emotionally confusing, especially when that person makes you feel like you have nothing without them. (Isolation from family and friends, constant emotional ups and downs, telling them that they are nothing without them and that they give a lot in the relationship, targeting people who are already struggling mentally) Sometimes they make you feel like they are all you have and that your whole world ends without them being there. It's a lot of brainwashing and emotional manipulation that you just won't understand unless you have experienced it yourself. Just say ASPD, the word sociopath is very derogatory and dehumanizing. ASPD is a disorder developed as a survival strategy in those who have experience intense repeated trauma in the childhood and adolescence. It's not black and white, it's not the disorder that makes people evil.

He treated me horribly and it took him SAing me for me to finally leave. In one of the toxic ones he had repeatedly sent reels and TikTok’s about a specific disorder (I can’t remember the name), where you basically self destruct if people reject and/or leave you. It’s an incredible fear and an actual physical reaction to it. He stated he had this and that made me terrified to leave out of fear of what he’d do and how he’d react. When I broke up with him, his reaction was enough for me to realize that was a lie and it was a massive guilt trip. I'm a diagnosed bipolar, please DO NOT confuse this mental illness with imoral behavior. I study my own mind a lot to help with the struggles and trust me when I say it: mental illness does not justify evil. Usually there must be something fundamentally wrong with a person to be like that and mental illness is just one more thing on top of it, so absolutely not the same. If he is truly sorry then he is going to get therapy and become a better person, but be for real, what are the odds of that, right?
Also, thank you so much for being so well informed and kind about abusive relantionships, Oompaville (I apologize for not knowing your name, I am new in your channel). As someone who suffers from a bipolar disorder, I can tell you that abusing your partner is NOT a symptom of it. Let’s say he does actually suffer from it. He is using his disorder to straight up manipulate her.. he is selfish and self absorbed. Something others get wrong about the disorder is the changes in moods. Bipolar is not a personality disorder it is a mood disorder. The switches of emotions are completely detached from your personality. It’s not the bipolar disorder he’s literally just a horrible person

(Nowhere near as extreme, but a lot of the text messages are things he's said.) It's so easy to get stuck defending yourself and trying to explain things, believing they'll wake up and realize what they're doing to you. Hearing Alex's fake apology made me realize that 1) those words are never going to come out of my friend's mouth, and 2) they wouldn't actually make me feel any better even if they did. I hope I'm finally ready to actually break the cycle, I always fall into thinking "this time will be different" even though it never changes.

I appreciate you saying I don't deserve it and want to assure you that, while I've always understood that cognitively, I'm learning what actions I need to take to really honor that. I mostly just fell into the "I can fix him" trap and have to accept that, even if I do everything right, it's still up to him to actually change.
I'm focusing on addressing the things that keep me from breaking the cycle, like learned helplessness and poor boundary setting. I really loved how kind Oompa was to the woman in this video, I was always disappointed in myself for giving my friend "another chance" but it's so easy to fall for the person you know they could be.

Switching between happy, sad and angry without a moment's notice is NOT Bipolar. Bipolar requires a long drawn out emotional state. Like a few weeks to a few months in a manic episode where one does impulsive things and doesn't consider the consequences to their actions. Then comes a crash for a month or more of regret, shame and depression. Then eventually the depression fades and they get manic again. It is gradual and long lasting. a person who is one second friendly, then one second angry, then the next apologetic means that they are actually emoting in a fake way. They are using their behavior to elicit a certain response.

11:08 ASPD is the same thing as sociopathy and psychopathy. ASPD is a diagnosis for ASPD, sociopathy and psychopathy. The terms sociopath and psychopath don’t exist anymore, technically. As someone diagnosed with ASPD, forensic psychiatry differentiates between ASPD, ASPD with sociopathic tendencies and ASPD with psychopathic tendencies, however the only diagnosis is “ASPD”.
I’m psychopathic which is determined by the high score of my tests and further evaluation, yet there’s nothing they can diagnosis me with other than antisocial personality disorder.

It's strange, I look at what's necessary to meet the diagnosis and it's not much. It seems very easy to check the boxes, or maybe I don't hang out with"normal" people.

@@MackenzieNerdyEMTDepends on how you look at it, I’m under the impression that everyone has symptoms of ASPD because there’s yet a human I have to meet who didn’t have atleast 2. The sociopathic and psychopathic aspect of it however probably isn’t all that easy since you need to lack certain emotions like remorse, guilt, fear and technically “normal” love because we don’t emotionally bond. The lack of empathy is also opinion based really, I don’t possess emotional empathy but I do possess cognitive empathy (like most with ASPD) and alot of people without diagnosis are emotionally apathetic.
Alot of symptoms of ASPD align with alot of others disorders and mental illnesses. The requirements for ASPD however aren’t really what google and sites say, they make it a bit too easy, I went through HOURS of testing (also for different disorders because symptoms align) and evaluation etc.
Google’s first symptom is “repeatedly breaking the law”, I’ve not broken many laws in my life- but that’s because I’m mostly at home isolated. That’s why hours of evaluation are necessary because situations are different. How aware someone is of their diagnosis also plays a role, I went to get a diagnosis because I knew and I’ve always been very aware.

So him calling her sobbing sounding so genuine and admitting fault for past issues is TEXTBOOK a step in the abuse cycle. Manipulation like that is why people keep going back to abusive partners. Because they repent and cry and say they'll do better. But they never actually do better.
