I think is absolutely worth blocking acrylic, especially for crocheted items. Even if it doesn't stay as open as a natural fiber would, it still evens things out and pops the stitches into place. Thanks for watching!
I don't crochet, but I learned something from this video. I nevere knew this was an important step for clothing items like this. Now i know how they keep their shape. Would this be done with doilies before starching?
Yeah, doilies actually look pretty weird before they are blocked. They are all wrinkly and don't lay right at all. They pretty much have to be blocked. Some people add liquid starch right to the water when they are blocking doilies, others steam block and then spray starch, just a matter of preference. I've heard of some people even using a glue/water mix to block and make extra stiff crocheted snowflakes for Christmas decorations.
Hi Maggie! In your video you mentioned the Red Heart would be releasing their own version of cotton stranded gradient yarn. Would you happen to know the name of the line and if its been released yet? I'd like to see what they have available, thanks for all the info btw, I picked up a couple of tips to consider the next time I block!
I'm so glad you liked the blocking video! Red Heart's stranded cotton/acrylic blend is called It's a Wrap Rainbow. They have another line called It's a Wrap which is slightly different and not stranded so be sure to get the right one if you order online. I just finished my shawl with It's a Wrap Rainbow and should be getting a video together very soon! Thanks for watching!
Wow that’s beautiful. I’ve started blocking on my shawls...even though they’re acrylic.

I would be curious to know the differences between the other kinds of blocking, like the pro's and cons Would be nice.
I'll keep that in mind and if I come across something that would be better steam or wet blocked I'll record it!
