🤯It is insane how this long-running TV drama had been running until 2009! Spaghetti and meatballs... Who is going to watch all episodes?? Even not popular??? I feel bad for people who worked on the long-running series for 57 years, such a hard work they had... By the way, I like this episode and the actors were playing well.
It was wonderful that Lyle Sudrow (the original Bill Bauer) was featured at the Daytime Emmys tribute to the 50th anniversary of Guiding Light on television.
On UK Soaps whenever there is an issue, they solve it with a Cup Of Tea. If you put Papa Bauer in Weatherfield on Coronation Street in the 1960's, he'd be stunned. So Blue Collar. He would have loved Lou Beale from Eastenders who wouldn't think twice about telling her family to get their stuff together.
It’s like today’s soaps. They run for like 3-4 to 6 minutes and it’s commercial time. Episodes have a length by 35-37 minutes with 22-24 minutes commercials which I kind of find annoying
Meta says she is leaving New York, going to go back to California. The Guiding Light was then set in Selby Flats, California, which was supposed to be a suburb of Los Angeles. Years later they magically changed it into Springfield, in the Midwest. Did they want it to be more like As the World Turns and Another World?
They did the typical soap opera thing and aged Mike (Bill called him "Butch" here) from infancy to about a 7 or 8 year old boy pretty quickly, when Glen Walken played the role. Then later in the 1950s, he was a teenager and had his first marriage.
I believe that might be Lisa Howard (who later became a reporter and had an affair with Fidel Castro), who is listed as having played the role of Trudy on radio from 1957-58, but I could be wrong.
Boy wasn't 1952 quite a year. Think about it, Bob Horn's Bandstad was created then it became American Bandstand on August 5th 1957 the same day that the UK Comic Strip Andy Capp was created. In Boston a College Girl named Coretta Scott went on a Blind Date with a Minister from Atlanta, GA., named Martin Luther King and a very controversial book called The Price Of Salt was released renamed "Carol". These early scenes remind me of Playhouse 90 and on the very first episode of Coronation Street on December 9th 1960 they filmed in the same way but they were more Blue Collar.

If only my mother had started me on Ivory soap. I would've been a model
As the World Turns wasn't even thought about yet. 😮
I miss soap operas, I still watch the bold and the beautiful

You gotta love Papa Bauer. He always there giving valuable advice. He made Bert the woman she became year's later because of his wisdom.

I love the doctor recommending Ivory soap! Not as bad as "what kind of cigarette do you smoke, doctor?"
This episode must have been from its first month or two on TV.

The last episode aired Aug 2009...

Yes. That is literally what they were created for.
