Keeping a slip for each item sold is a great idea. Man I actually never really thought of that. I'm still a beginner in selling stuff on eBay, so I'm gonna start doing that. Makes everything so much more organized. Thank you so much!
Michael your videos are not only informative but they are delivered in an easy to understand genuine manner. Nicely done my friend. I hope your health improves quickly!
I'm 69 and just starting to want to try to sell used stuff on Ebay. I live with a hoarder and I know there is some vintage stuff here. I'm SO impressed with you. I wish you lots of success and I hope I can say I saw you before you became a multi millionaire!
I'm about to restart selling on Ebay so I've been researching/refreshing myself and watching videos for about a week. This is probably the MOST helpful Ebay video I've seen. Thank you so much!
Being a person who prefers to keep hard copies of everything I love how organized you are. Excellent video. I had been watching dozens of videos as a way to prepare to sell on e Bay and yours gives information that I have not found in any other video. THANK YOU!!!!
Micheal, you're a blessing. Not too many people are giving towards others to help others succeed in life. Too many times I've asked for help from fellow sellers, but too often they will not respond or give me the usual 'I don't know.' Maybe some don't know, but simple basic questions shouldn't be hard for people to answer. You will go far in life! Thanks for sharing some 'trade secret' tips. Very informative!
you are the most helpful person on youtube! i've been looking into selling some personal stuff to test the waters with this whole ebay thing. ive also been looking for videos to help out, and yours is by far the best ive seen!! i love that you take the time to get into detail and its so so so so so helpful!!
Don't know why this doesn't have more views, quite possibly the most detailed and informative video for wannabe game sellers like myself. It's very rare for someone to go through their whole process on youtube, thank you for your vids, and subscribed :D.
Well thank you! I have a much more up to date process I will be making a video about in the near future. Finding details about business operations and good help videos is actually really hard. That's why I started to make the videos, I couldn't find any and said hey... maybe people want to watch these.
But in actuality the best is a mix of both, here is what I do and it's a great selling strategy. Since Amazon has no listing or upfront fees, I list all of my merchandise on Amazon at a high price and leave it there for a minimum 30 days, if it sells GREAT! if it doesn't then I take it off of Amazon and take pictures and list or auction it at my eBay store. It's a great strategy because you can potentially sell things at high prices with no risk upfront, trust me it works.
Ok now shipping, shipping video games in a bubble mailer is fine. If you can add a cardboard backing, it can help keep it from cracking or getting crushed. First class is the absolute cheapest option for video games, and will typically cost $1.64-$3, simply add it into you price and offer free shipping or just charge the shipping cost + material cost(my bubble mailers cost 18 cents a piece). Now with school books ship them as media mail, media mail is the cheapest for of shipping.
No the cost of shipping, supplies, and other fees to sell a items are COGS. So if you sold a product for $30, and shipping was $10, tracking was $5, and the product cost you $5. Then you would report $10 of profit to the IRS, you can also write of the ebay fees. The IRS is only interested in how much profit you make.
You are a shipping Guru!!!! Although I'm not selling on eBay/Amazon I find your videos very useful. I'm starting an online store and had a lot of questions. Your videos have answered a lot of my questions. I'm type A person. So everything has to be completely organized(which your videos provide much needed help). Can you show a video on just the folders and how and when you use them. Thank you for sharing your knowledge
Not sure about fedex but I know usps you can ship in boxes that have ups on them if they are small. I used to work for ups and everyday we would actually stop at the post office and unload a ton of small packages that could fit into mail boxes. At the same time we would pickup their larger packages they had. Some kind of deal we had worked out where they would take small stuff and we would take the larger. If your worried just get brown paper bags from grocery store and wrap the box with that.
Can you PLEASE do a tutorial on how you made the fed ex labs as your "profit labels"? It is such a great idea and I think many people would appreciate how organized and simple having something in place like that would be. Especially me. Please
It depends on how you ship it, if you take it the the post office you have to get a tracking number and relay it (via message or email) to the customer. If you print labels with ebay or amazon the tracking number will automatically be given to the customer.
Thank you for your dedicated videos. You are very organized and specific. I like it. I start to sell on ebay too. I still learn how to charge sales taxes or not, how to ship and profit etc.
eBay and Amazon both offer shipping software, use it! eBays shipping software is 100% free and you will get commercial based prices, all you do it click print shipping label next to a sold item to access it. Same with Amazon, once a item sell you can hit print shipping label and go from there, Amazon charges a 7 cent fee per label. The most convenient part of this is the fact that it will automatically upload all your tracking information for you. Thank you!
Well I use both and they work great, they are very different. Amazon is so much easier to manage and quick to list, but it has fierce competition and constant price cutting. I love eBay because you can really convey your brand and style, you can show customers more about your product and you. That is truly a great and hard question, if I had to pick one I would choose Amazon, because it gets 1,700,000,000 visits per month and eBay gets 780,000,000.
Very helpful info, thanks! Also, I just wanted to give you kudos on your systems and organization. I've been a Professional Organizer for over 14 years and have seen a lot. Your file system and documentation is awesome!
Hey Michael what a *brilliant* way to keep track of your records...I would love to see a video on how to make sure you don't run out of inventory to sell so that you can keep your sales and eBay biz consistant...John.
Thank you for your videos there wonderfully informative. But I was looking for that FedEx link that you mentioned in the video for the packing forms and sale forms
I just started looking into doing some ebay business. I came across your video and I found it to be so educational. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. Keep it up. Thumbs up and subscribe for sure! =)
You are very welcome, if you have any more questions just contact me at any platform, my eBay message will probably be quickest. I buy stuff on craigslist aswell, if you look at my most recent video you can see stuff I just recently picked up. My advice would be not to only start out selling video games, but try and sell anything and everything you can make a profit on to build up your reputation. Do you specialize in anything? It is good to try and become knowledgeable in a specific field
I use a ASUS N53SV-DH72, it's a $1200 laptop and I would not suggest buying such a expensive computer. It's great, but all you need for a online business is a 200-400 dollar desktop.
I never use Uline, it is way over priced. I use the Priority Mail Small flat rate boxes. They can be bent perfectly to fit the NES games and also fit in a mailer. I use the DVD sized bubble mailers. If you dont want to use a box for the NES games, just double up the bubble mailers aswell.
I take it that item was a auction? A typical rule of thumb if your new to eBay, only auction things you can actual afford to take a loss on, auctions have no guarantee and they are always a risk, even I only auction things I can afford to lose money on. The fees are high, but they are usually less than 20% which is what a typical auction house would charge. Also if you can get top rated seller you are eligible for a addition 20% discount. I will post a second comment addressing the shipping.
Also my next video will be filmed over a 3-4 days period it will be behind the scenes of how i get a big auction read, it should really give you some insight into how I do things.
When you are shipping media mail the size of the box doesn't really effect the price much and also you can ship heavy weights for cheap, media mail has strict restrictions (it is made for only school books and some media). Make sure you follow them or users may leave negative feedback, because media mail is slow. Anyways if you have more questions just message me or email me at ctgg@att.net, I am more then happy to help you. Don't get discouraged, start out slow and build a greater understanding
i think a lot of pc gamers and what not use camtasia to capture their computer screen. and there's a free one called camstudio, you'll have to try and see how camstudio works because on some computers it has issues with syncing audio from what i've seen.
You are amazing!! Thanks for sharing your expertise with us who are new to this. Can you please advise on how to pack & ship board games. Also whats your advise on amazon FBA? Is is worth it to ship your product there and the margins of your profits.
I like the idea of keeping your profit numbers with the invoice printout, bt it might be less wasteful (and faster) if you just printed out a bunch of those profit worksheets on paper and then printed your invoices on the back. Just an idea.
Greetings Michael! You post some really good videos, very informative and great insight. My frivolous question is, I'm undecided on style of mailing labels. Are the rounded corner labels more convenient than the square corner labels? When making return addy labels for regular envelopes, I prefer the rounded. I can only assume I would prefer the same on larger labels. Not having experience with them, I thought I'd ask your opinion. Thanks in advance. Keep up the awesome vid's!!
You're a REALLY good explainer. No babbling, just useful information.
Dan Scott Awesome thank you for watching.
Yes I love it!!!
I have watched probably over 100 videos on online selling and this is by far one of the best I have ever seen. Subscribed!
I was just thinking the same thing.
you can use excel instead of these files
Keeping a slip for each item sold is a great idea. Man I actually never really thought of that. I'm still a beginner in selling stuff on eBay, so I'm gonna start doing that. Makes everything so much more organized. Thank you so much!

Clara Oporto Thanks Clara
I'm 69 and just starting to want to try to sell used stuff on Ebay. I live with a hoarder and I know there is some vintage stuff here. I'm SO impressed with you. I wish you lots of success and I hope I can say I saw you before you became a multi millionaire!
Love your videos, they're SUPER helpful to this beginner! thanks Michael Pierce!
I'm about to restart selling on Ebay so I've been researching/refreshing myself and watching videos for about a week. This is probably the MOST helpful Ebay video I've seen. Thank you so much!
fluffynomo AWESOME! thanks for watching.
Michael Pierce How do you insure the shipments?
ComputersDaily theres a box that you check and it calculates insurance costs for you and it adds it to your total price when your doing this all
Ok thanks!
It's great to see how you do your business. Sharing all the information helps everyone gain ideas for improvement. Thank you for the videos.
Being a person who prefers to keep hard copies of everything I love how organized you are. Excellent video. I had been watching dozens of videos as a way to prepare to sell on e Bay and yours gives information that I have not found in any other video. THANK YOU!!!!
Thanks so much and I am glad I am able to help

+Josh Enders Thanks Josh, Appreciate it.
Hi, I am so excited to have run into your videos. You are explain everything so well. Please continue sharing! Thank you
Good stuff. this is exactly the kind of nutts and bolts description I was looking for in doing an eBay business.
Well thank you! I have a much more up to date process I will be making a video about in the near future. Finding details about business operations and good help videos is actually really hard. That's why I started to make the videos, I couldn't find any and said hey... maybe people want to watch these.

Thanks. I appreciate all your help. I also plan on buying games locally through Craigslist and then selling them online to gain some profit.

brittany smiler 5 years later, I second this statement. I would love to use something like this for my eBay business!
Everything you said is correct, you can print it at home, pay online and then they will pick it up or you can drop it off.
Hey Michael, one more thank you very much and sucess for you!
