Good songs, BUT! Alexander the Great is a song written by actual events and the R.O.T.A.M is a direct copy of an poem. How ever HBTN is a masterpiece written in its entirety by Steve Harris.

They're still the best today mate & still filling huge arenas on world tours 45 years they've been going.
The 80's is prime Maiden but even to this day they still release great albums , check out their latest single "The Writing On The Wall" released last week.
By the way they're all in their 60's now lol.
Most of not all their songs are about historical events or dreams. Great story telling with Maiden. Best to react to live performances with them .

One of the best in the world. I always loved great bass players. Check out "Steve Miller on The Midnight Special" playing "Fly Like an Eagle" Bass player kills it.

I think you must mean sound better, not perform better. Every band performs better at a live show. They just may not sound better at a show, compared to the studio. Bruce doesn't have much to climb on in the studio.
Welcome to Iron Maiden. As you continue on your journey you will find that all of this is normal for Maiden. Great lyrics, masterful music and all of that to this day. A new album will be out in a few days and I can't wait. I almost get tears in my eyes when I think about it. It is incredibly difficult for me to suggest another song because the selection is just too good and too huge. Anyway "The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner" has to be heard to stay in the 80s. An Iron Maiden song is like a movie. Every song is a story; it's theatre of the mind. Nobody does it better than Bruce and Maiden.
Iron Maiden for beginners: Run to the Hills(studio), Number of the Beast, Two Minutes to Midnight, Fear of the Dark(live!!!), Phantom of the Opera, The Trooper, Wasted Years, Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Live is the way to go for most of their material (with a couple of exceptions), and their post 2000 concert videos (Rock n Rio, Flight 666, En Vivo, etc) are much better quality than clips from the 80s. They are one of biggest rock bands of all time (over 100 million albums sold) and are a hell of a rabbit hole to jump into. Seriously, they have at least 70 songs that are worthy of a reaction.
Most bands got songs you need to hear, Maiden got full albums covering decades. They got a new song came out a little over a week ago thats amazing too.
Bruce Dickinson - Metal, Rock, Pop. Rap, Opera etc.. The man can sing anything.

This is not new for them, they sold over a hundred million albums and sell out shows all over the world without radio airtime or any real hype. That is a sin in the eyes of the RRHF panelists, they hate metal cause it points out man's hypocrisy with glee.

The thing about Iron Maiden was that they had some really good LP songs but when you see them live it was just life-changing it was amazing to see them perform live

the first two disks are from a different singer (Paul Di'Anno), his era has songs like Killers, Phantom Of the Opera, Charlotte the Harlot, Wrathchild, Murders in the Rue Morgue, Running Free. THey replaced him with Bruce Dickinson, who sang this song. Others not mentioned include 22 Acacia Avenue (the sequel to Charlotte the Harlot), Die with your boots on, 2 Minutes to Midnight, Back In the Village, Wasted Years (love that song, I did see someone else mention it), Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, Hooks in you, the wicker man

Yeah all their music is phenomenal and they are masters of their craft, I've been a Maiden fan since 82 when I was 12 years old, you've gotta see their live performances, live in Dortmund, maiden England, flight 666, live after death, dance of death and so much more. This song was off of number of the beast 82 then piece of mind album in 83, you've gotta hear the power slave album to , life after death live has a ton of their older songs that are phenomenal. I'm glad you liked this song, performance, and story, they play this live on every show.
The thing that is amazing about Bruce Dickinson's voice is how he's able to hold that note for so long he is badass and he never gets drownded out buy the guitar riffs

Bruce writes some amazing lyrics. Just take a look at Powerslave, Revelations, Empire of the clouds. Basically anything Bruce is credited on he wrote the lyrics. The Smith/Dickinson/Harris classics are all Bruce's lyrics!

You’re correct on it being an 80s band. They were going through lineup changes from 1975 until 1983 but they released their first album in 1980. The bassist, Steve Harris, is the founder and the only original member. They had more lineup changes in the 90s, but their current lineup has been stable since 2000. Bruce Dickinson at singer, Steve Harris on bass, Janick Gers/Dave Murray/Adrian Smith on guitars, Nicko McBrain on drums.
This might be Maidens best song and definitely among the best live performances of any band.Also really enjoyed your review of the song.

Among all the songs by this exceptional band, for me, Hallowed is perhaps one of the most iconic, magical and exquisite. This is not the first reaction to a Maiden song that I appreciate and almost invariably, when it is a reaction to this song, there is this mixture of delight, surprise and immediate recognition of the musical excellence that these guys produced and that so many like, in different parts of the world.

Some have commented on the bass player, Steve Harris and how he kills it, which he does. What a lot of people probably don't know. Well hard core fans know, but Steve Harris has written the majority of Maidens songs/hits. Don't get me wrong, the whole band contributes, but Steve Harris has most of the credits as the song writer on their stuff. So not only a great bassist, but founding member, group leader and creative genius and just down to earth great guy.
This is why I love Iron Maiden. They just kick a$$
