The best British reggae/ska sound out of the early eighties. Loved that group.

Speaking of reggae festivals, was just at one yesterday, oddly enough. Stick Figure, Pepper, The Elovaters; and it so happens that The Specials were brought up by the lead singer of Pepper in tribute of Terry Hall. Straight legends

The reason the front three look familiar is because Terry, Neville and Lynval later formed Fun Boy Three that you reviewed a few months ago

There’s three waves of Ska; first wave is original Ska, there’s 2nd wave 2-Tone Ska, and third wave is Ska-Punk

Terry Hall’s social commentary ranks alongside Paul Weller
(the Jam) as THE eminent lyricists on UK youth culture.

    • @mikecaetano

Um, they were more like the children of ska. Desmond Dekker, The Wailing Wailers, Millie Small, Dandy Livingstone, The Ethiopians, Toots & The Maytals, The Slickers -- crafted ska in the sixties. For example, The Specials covered "Monkey Man" by Toots & The Maytals.

Ska started in Jamaica in the 50s lol. Ska did not start in England. 2 tone Ska specifically started in England but Ska was around for over 2 decades before it went to England...

They are talking about how only the privileged get to go to University and how useless education can be when you are studying something like a Masters in Left Handed Puppetry. This is UK back in late 70s early 80s where third level education was not so accessible for the working class.

I'm not an expert, but could this particular song be considered Rock Steady?
