The best British reggae/ska sound out of the early eighties. Loved that group.
A timeless band.
R.I.P. Terry Hall
R.I.P. John Bradbury
Speaking of reggae festivals, was just at one yesterday, oddly enough. Stick Figure, Pepper, The Elovaters; and it so happens that The Specials were brought up by the lead singer of Pepper in tribute of Terry Hall. Straight legends
Two Tone magic
The reason the front three look familiar is because Terry, Neville and Lynval later formed Fun Boy Three that you reviewed a few months ago
Good to see u again Brad. Ska use to have Special lyrics... Salute the wife. Hope u doing reactions togeather soon. Hugs from Sweden, Gothenburg.
you do know them they formed Fun Boy Three - The Lunatics Have Taken Over The Asylum after
Just discovered your separate channel and loving it as much as your main one.
its about going through the system and is it worth it. It was a song of its time
An Art O Level ….did nothing for anyone 😂 brilliant. My era, ska
Two tone legends❤
SKA MUSIC RULEZ❤
There’s three waves of Ska; first wave is original Ska, there’s 2nd wave 2-Tone Ska, and third wave is Ska-Punk
Terry Hall’s social commentary ranks alongside Paul Weller
(the Jam) as THE eminent lyricists on UK youth culture.
The guitarist Roddy Radiation wrote this song not Terry.
Never heard of Matt Johnson

You’re right of course but still a valid comment.
What exact "social commentary" songs did he write about "youth culture"?
@@normandavidtidiman9918 clearly you can’t be listening !
the specials and madness are grandfather of ska
Um, they were more like the children of ska. Desmond Dekker, The Wailing Wailers, Millie Small, Dandy Livingstone, The Ethiopians, Toots & The Maytals, The Slickers -- crafted ska in the sixties. For example, The Specials covered "Monkey Man" by Toots & The Maytals.
The skatalites are the grandfather of ska
Dunno what that makes Prince Buster then? 🤔
Ska started in Jamaica in the 50s lol. Ska did not start in England. 2 tone Ska specifically started in England but Ska was around for over 2 decades before it went to England...
@@andrewwilliamson5121😂😂 nah not even near it

This was filmed in my old University - pretty sure I sat exams in that hall myself.
Just the 1 PHD ?
WTF? Where's Lex?
They are talking about how only the privileged get to go to University and how useless education can be when you are studying something like a Masters in Left Handed Puppetry. This is UK back in late 70s early 80s where third level education was not so accessible for the working class.
Thanks.
Anti-yuppie protest ska! 😆
I'm not an expert, but could this particular song be considered Rock Steady?
Kinda. Rock steady tends to a slightly slower beat. Check out Alton Ellis "Rock Steady" for example.
Rock Steady is a branch of Ska.
no
NO
More reggae than rocksteady
