Couple of other springs and rivers are forbidden to swim in as well. The ground is mostly karst so bottoms and natural formations under water are quite fragile. Also, a lot of water flows under ground in southern Croatia and people need it. So they protect it. Most treasured is probably Croatia's 3rd largest lake- Vransko jezero (the biggest one is also called Vransko), but this one is on an actual island of Cres. Stony, porous, dry island. Natural phenomenon connected to continental fresh water systems with underground channels that flow under the actual sea. Deep sea. Fresh water on islands is absolutely priceless. As for security- these people were in Croatia. No security needed. Key is more than enough. But not for long. Due to immigration.
Plitvice is its own eco region,primordial forests which is home to bears,wolves and other mammals,beavers,deer,badgers,fox,wild boar,birds etc...and lakes which are home to many species of fish and other aquatic life. and it is breath taking....though my favorite national park is Velebit mountain. you can see Italy from the top of it
yes you can swim there if you have spare 15 000 euros. that how much the fine is if you get caught. swimming is prohibited!

It is forbidden to swim in our national parks. It used to be allowed, but the pollution from skin products was noticeable, so we forbade it.

It is forbidden to swim in the shallows, but the same water in the rivers that come out of the shallows, the same clean water and beauty!Mrežnica Kupa Korana and the other Croatian rivers Krka, Drava is the European Amazon and wherever you go you will find only beauty!!
