Pat's argument seems to be hinging on Skubal being both a core piece of the team, who we should sign possibly at some point, but also that nobody else would give up much to get him. He also seems to be ignoring that teams will be desperate for pitching at the deadline, saying only a team like SD would make such a stupid trade for Soto. But these deals happen all the time, where you might know the deal will screw you over long term, but the desire to win immediately gets them to throw caution to the wind. There's going to be teams out there that feel they need another piece at the top of the rotation to make it, and Skubal is undoubtedly going to be better than any other option.
I wouldn't be mad if they were to sign him, but unless they go on a Texas Ranger-like spending spree for position players, I just don't see how we get a good roster 1-9 where we can compete for something real. Trading any of those other guys Pat mentions that are basically already 4A players is shuffling cards around, it's not getting you the top level talent you need.

I like how Pat has a crystal ball knowing what Tigers can get in a Skubal trade and what can not be had. Somehow he knows. "baseball savant" ? I dont think so. Based on what ? He thought Tork arrived ,liked cristin stewart, now touts Jung. Riger won debate.
Have to trade him. Hate to do it, but they won’t be competitive till they get a short stop and that’s not going to happen next year and maybe the year after

Caputo is playing a wishy washy it could go either way game. And I don’t get it. Either say the tigers are contenders and tell us how or admit they suck and need to make some changes. The tigers are terrible! They have no prospects that will be ready when Skubal’s contract will be up. Yeah you may not get anything out of trading him, but you won’t get anything out of keeping him. They’ll still be bad.
I'd rather get 2-3 very solid prospects than 1 solid prospect and 2-3 borderline players in a trade. The amount of faith I have in Harris moving forward would largely depend on this. It would be better than just having him walk in a couple of years.
Get a team , show me how to do it....better still buy the tigers. Fix them

Pat says wanting to trade Skubal is talking out of both sides of your mouth, What the hell does that mean ? Because i want a free agent bat and more in a trade I I cant trade Skubal ?, nonsense. Every situation is different. The Tigers need many players, Skubal is one player and likely to leave. Id rather have multiple players instead of one who is likely to leave as a free agent.
Prospects are Prospects , they are not proven MLB Players , Keep Skubal
Do not trade Skubal . Get rid of J. Baaz , K. Maeda , A. Badoo any way You can , DFA or what ever it takes . Trade Jack F. , Carson Kelly , Gio U. , Mark C. , maybe a couple others
Caputo is on Crack! You can't not trade Skubal when they're still losing with him no less than they would without him. At least he provides them an opportunity to get better faster by trading him for 3-4 high-to-mid level prospects in order to get more talent in here to find that core faster. This is where Avila failed! He failed to trade Fulmer and Boyd when the team was mediocre and their values were at their highest, only to lose both for essentially nothing. Not trading them cost him another what...? 4 to 6 prospects that may have been enough to help turn the team around and improve the perception that he knew what he was doing which would've saved his job! Can Harris do that? Well, he failed to trade E-Rod last year at the deadline, and he walked away to AZ and left us holding his luggage. Who knows what players the Dodgers were willing to give us for E-Rod. Wouldn't it be nice to have found out? It could've been Michael Busch and one of their young and promising starting pitchers. Sure would be nice if that had actually happened. And I'm certain that Harris learned a valuable lesson from that mistake. And here we are with another opportunity to get it done this year with Skubal and Flaherty! Both of them should get us a return just as good as what we received for Lorenzen last year. Hao-Yu Lee is currently killing it in Erie right now. How about a couple more players like Lee to add to this organization? I'll take that over what we currently have on the MLB roster to go with Clark, McGonigle, Lee and Jobe.
Not a good idea! You can’t trade every good pitcher that you have, especially a Cy Young pitcher like himself. And if you actually do end up trading you better really know what you’re gonna get back for him because if you don’t get anything it sets you back another like 5 seasons or something.
