fun fact, the reason there are 399 swears exactly in the movie is because they were going to give it an X-rating, and were told to get it to a point where they could drop it to an R-rating, and the way to drop it down to an R-rating was that they had to have less than 400 swears.
Also, while this isn't confirmed, it's rumored that the US Marines tortured Saddam Hussein by playing this movie on loop, and apparently matt and trey have a signed photo dedicated to them from Saddam. It's not really confirmed, but if it's true it's pretty interesting.

I remember an age when people weren't allowed to cuss/curse in sitcoms on television or in commercials, no matter if it was something like "hell" or "crap". Now it's seen as perfectly normal. I'm curious what this movie was rated back when it released. Given all the cussing and violence, I'm guessing it was rated R. Nowadays, such a movie would be rated PG-13.

So this is literally tied as my favorite movie of all time with BeetleJuice, and of course it was a delight seeing my favorite creators make a vid about it! Tight I missed the stream. Saw the notif too but was busy at the time. This video was literally so fucking hilarious. Your reactions were amazing! But I wanted to share some fun facts about this movie.
Basically, this whole movie was one big fuck you to an actual organization that existed in the 90s called moms against cartoons. They disbanded sometime in the 2010s though, I believe.) and they were attempting to get South Park taken off air already. They were also associated with the MPAA. Originally, Terrance and Philip (Les miserables reference)’s song was gonna be called “Mother Fucker” but the MPAA called it too crude and said they would get an x-rating unless they were to change it to have under 400 curses. So, in natural Matt & Trey fashion, they made the song cruder and cruder until they got uncle fucker. The entire movie has exactly 399 curses as another big fuck you to the MPAA.
MAC is the reason why MAC in the movie is so extreme. Instead of blaming bad parenting for letting your kids watch a show rated NC-17, they wanted to take every show that was more adult than The Simpsons (and South Park was before even Family Guy, it was so new to see such crude jokes in TV that when it was previewed to a live audience a couple adults actually started CRYING. It was the first show with THAT MUCH CURSING to be aired on cable television, and still isn’t beaten out yet.) off the air, because it was “perverting children”.
Basically MAC (mothers against cartoons) hated South Park and called it responsible for everything wrong with children, attempted to get it banned, and this movie was actually supposed to be the END of South Park, because despite it being a cash cow, their contract was only for 2 seasons and a feature film.
The movie was such a groundbreaking success (and also a parody of Les Mis) that it actually got South Park renewed IIRC.
The entire La Resistance sequence is, to the surprise of no one, a reference to Les Mis. The whole movie is basically one big Les Mis spoof.
All the women in the Blame Canada song were voiced by one woman, Mary Kay Bergman (RIP). She voiced all the women in South Park and unfortunately took her own life in 2004.
Stan puking whenever seeing Wendy was a running gag since the first season.
While Satan and Saddam Hussein were actually voiced by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, respectively, in the credits both characters are listed as being voiced by themselves.
According to Stone, the movie's original title was "South Park: All Hell Breaks Loose," and he and Parker changed it to the more subtly vulgar "Bigger, Longer & Uncut" after push-back from the MPAA for it having “Hell” in it.
Richard Taylor, a spokesman for the MPAA, denies that any film was ever submitted with that title and that the MPAA did not reject the use of the word "hell" in the title
The movie features a tribute to classic rock band Pink Floyd. In the scene where South Park citizens are destroying all Canadian products, a trio of soldiers can be seen with the name tags "Floyd," "Wright" and "Mason
Metallica frontman James Hetfield contributed to the song "Hell Isn't Good."
"South Park" held the record for the highest-grossing R-rated animated movie in America for a full 17 years. It was finally dethroned by "Sausage Party" in 2016.
Figure skater Brian Boitano claimed in an interview that being in South Park was a pleasant surprise, and that it seriously contributed to keeping his career alive. He was glad they didn’t rag on him like every other celeb in South Park. He even collaborated with Parker and Stone in order to commission as series of "What Would Brian Boitano Do?" T-shirts for a charity drive.
South Park has been on for more than two decades, but they’ve worked very hard to maintain a consistent level of quality and not just produce more content for the sake of it. There was interest in subsequent South Park movies, but Parker and Stone were hesitant to find a story that was worthy enough of this honor. South Park’s “Imaginationland Trilogy” from season 11 was initially conceived as the second South Park feature film. This plan gradually changed, but there’s an extra level of quality that’s present in these episodes. Recently, more than a dozen South Park films have been announced for Paramount+.
Kenny is voiced by Mike Judge in this movie, instead of Matt and Trey like in the show. George Clooney plays the doctor that kills Kenny.
All the celebrities are credited as themselves despite being voiced by actual voice actors. Winona Ryder is played by “Winona Ryder”, Jennifer Aniston is “Jennifer Aniston”, Brian Dennehy is “Brian Dennehy” and Brian Boitano is “Brian Boitano”.
Trey Parker, Matt Stone, and fans in general often joke that a majority of the people who saw this movie were under 17, and got in by buying tickets to the PG-13 rated Will Smith flop Wild Wild West (1999). The urban legend became so popular in 1999 that it would be spoofed in an episode of South Park (1997).
When the children are in rehab, a poster in the back of Mr. Mackey's room reads, "Get High!!! On Pottery," which was a quote from a high school teacher of Matt Stone's. The original quote was, "Son, you need to know not to use pot as a natural high. Instead of getting high with pot, get high with pottery."
Paramount Pictures originally asked Trey Parker and Matt Stone if they could make a PG-13 rated film. They said no and would not agree to make a movie until the studio agreed that the final product would be rated R.
The original trailer, which took jabs at Walt Disney and animation in general, was hated by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, who called it, "Everything we didn't want the film to be." Matt Stone was so upset he dismantled the videotape of the trailer and threw it in the trunk of his car, then told the production crew in anger to "do it again."
Despite a popular urban legend, this film was never banned in Iraq. Iraq never distributes any foreign movies in the country at all
In the film This Film Is Not Yet Rated (2006), Matt Stone claims that the original idea for Cartman's mom's Internet video was of her having sex with a horse (but the act wouldn't be seen on screen). The MPAA would not allow this because of bestiality, despite the fact the at one point in the movie, a picture of a man having sex with a horse is seen (when Dr. Vosknocker is trying to get Cartman attempt to swear and one of his flash cards is "horse fucker"). So Stone and Trey Parker decided to make the Internet video of a German guy defecating on Cartman's mom, and the MPAA approved it.
The picture hanging above Satan's bed is of actor Skeet Ulrich.
In the German dub of the film, Mrs. Cartman's German partner in the dubious video that the boys watch on the Internet is actually British.
The song "What Would Brian Boitano Do?" is a reference to the original Christmas Card "The Spirit of Christmas" which was the inspiration for the South Park (1997) series. In the short, Stan asks Cartman, "What would Brian Boitano do?" when Jesus is fighting Santa.
In the short segment of soldiers marching to the U.S.O. show while singing a cadence song, Jesus Christ appears in the ranks for a moment before the scene transition to Kyle hiding Ike away in the attic.
Stan's family (parents Randy and Sharon, sister Shelley) are named after Trey Parker's family. Kyle's parents, Gerald and Sheila, are named after Matt Stone's parents.
Ironically enough, the only song in the entire film that contains no profanity is Satan's performance of "Up There."
The reason Trey Parker and Matt Stone made the movie so inappropriate was because they thought their show would get cancelled. On TV they could not do much, so they wanted to let their audiences know how bad they could make it, thinking it would be a good sign off to the show.
Gregory can be seen jumping onto an actual soapbox during the "La Resistance" musical number. This acts as a play on words, because not only is he physically standing on a box of soap, but "a person on their soapbox" refers to someone preaching or extolling their virtue.
The line in the song, "Blame Canada," "They're not even a real county anyway," emulates an actual rationale bandied about by Quebec Separatists justifying leaving the confederation of Canada prior to the 1995 separation referendum in which the vote barely went for remaining in Canada.
The film was made the same time as the third season of South Park. The producers bought two buildings, one to make the movie, the other to make the third season. Trey Parker and Matt Stone had to rush back and forth into each buildings to make both the movie and the show. It was so stressful for them, that Trey Parker was hospitalized due to bad stomach pains. He thought he had appendicitis, but his stomach was sore due to stress.
Satan throwing Saddam back into the Pits of Hell is a mock of Emperor Palpatine's death in Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983) when Darth Vader throws him into a pit in the Death Star. Also, the line "I have had enough of you!" is said in the same way in the film Darkman.
But don’t mind me, just a South Park Superfan!
