Regarding pickled eggs. I had never eaten a pickled egg until I was in my 50s and it is quite a regional foodstuff. Here in the Westcountry you will find it in Public Houses and it's eaten with a bag of Crisps. They are actually better if pickled in Malt Vinegar and not the Acetic Acid that the commercially available ones are in. Better from a Farmers market than a supermarket. This was hilarious ! You were really taking one for the team !!!! As a born & bred Brit I totally agree with your opinion on pickled eggs & onions & marmite. Beans on toast is definitely comfort food. Btw, you can't really make a decent chip butty with oven chips(too dry) as they need to be good & greasy ; ) & branston pickle shouldn't be heated. It's a cold condiment that you can add to a welsh rarebit after it's grilled or to put in a ham or cheese sandwich . Well done anywayfor trying this all out. I'm looking forward to you making steak & kidney pudding with treacle pudding & custard for dessert for a real carbfest although I too prefer strawberry tarte 😂😂😂
Wait. Is the Rolly Polly just a cinnamon roll? Those made by a good bakery are great. Store bought aren’t that good. Never put any sauce or jam on them.
@@robynemme2458 In fact it's called jam roly-poly & is suet pudding, a pastry made with flour, water & suet, (the fat found around kidneys). The suet pastry is flattened jam is spread in the middle & the pastry is rolled. The pudding is then steamed. It sounds pretty disgusting but homemade suet puddings are light & fluffy & with a tangy not to sweet jam this dessert is delish. However, you can't buy this in bakers as it doesn't keep well. ; )

Swiss here. I was introduced to pickled eggs in a pub in the UK many years ago. I loved them at first bite and made them myself the following Christmas as a side-dish at my party. A friend - a cooking teacher, no less - loved them so much she has been making them ever since for Christmas. No Christmas at their home without pickled eggs. And I too still make them once or twice a year. They are really delicious. Don't be shy and try them.
You two were so funny and so honest, that I would watch you again and again just to catch your expressions. Oh, and maybe, get an idea for my breakfast.😃 Thank you for being so realistic.😊
@@katevalentine7075 You may be right. Those type of foods were made to last longer and not spoil very soon. Never mind the awkward taste. If I had to choose one that I could eat regularly, I would choose beans on toast.
Cute video! I'm from the US southeast with both British and German roots.. I grew up with pickled eggs at family Easter celebrations. Ours were pink, as beets or beet juice was added to the recipe, which I read is apparently common for pickled eggs in the US. However, I don't know anyone else that eats them, so who knows. My mom said they came from my grandmother's German family tradition. I also read their origin had to do with Lent, as many Christian denominations forbade the consumption of eggs during Lent, but hens continued to lay eggs, and pickling provided a practical way to preserve them until Easter. Our family also had pickled peaches. A very different thing with spices like clove and cinnamon. I didn't love or hate the eggs - ours weren't super strong tasting, but I did like the peaches! Thanks for the memory! We no longer eat them at family gatherings..
OMG! I am roaring with laughter 😂 I was raised in England, now in Australia but I ❤ all the things you tried but not marmite, we have Vegemite! Your face, Kirsten, it was worth watching for your reactions 😂 I guess it’s where you are raised 🤷🏻♀️
PS. A small amount of Marmite drizzled over Cheddar on toast, then grilled, is great - if you like Marmite. Or you can alternatively try Branston pickle with grilled cheese on toast (again, not too much!) E.g. under the grilled cheese (spread on your toast), or as a condiment on the side.

I’m with you all the way with the pickled eggs……and I’m amazed you had never done beans on toast as a quick and filling meal, a standby for the occasions when you’ve been caught in traffic, got soaked on the way home and all other similar disasters!

Marmite needs to be very thinly applied, nice on toast with beans or melted cheese. Branston pickle nice in a cheese sandwich, or with a ploughman's lunch.
Yes you really need to fry the laverbread with bacon and can add some rolled oats as you cook it. I cannot imagine eating it with cheese and tomato on toast that's the vegan version 21st century version. As a kid we would be it fresh from the market in Swansea that's like almost 45 years ago. I'm sure it's really healthy. How can a chip buttie be considered weird? Haha you guys are cute though enjoyed this. All the best from Thailand. The only thing I never dared to eat is pickled egg all the others are real UK staples. Surely pickled onion is similar to sauerkraut lol
Such an enjoyable video, thank you, Kirsten and Joerg! For me as a viewer the absolute highlight was that innocent-looking pickled egg🤣 I hope though your stomachs weren't too upset after such a wild breakfast combo😁
British people peel a potato and deep fry their own chips never on a bun just bread and you put far too much butter. In the old days pickled eggs were sweet no taste like battery acid. Agree with you there.
i love these food tasting videos, it's somewhat off brand but it shows relaxed interaction between you two which is less tailored than what we usually see,.and delightful!
Hi Kirsten and Joerg great video 😀😀. You really need chip shop chips for a chip butty. Also pickled onions are best eaten with something else such as with hams and cheese as part of a ploughman’s lunch. The jam roly poly would traditionally be eaten with custard too xx
Hilarious! Beans on toast is a light lunch or quick tea, cheese and branston pickle on a sandwich for lunch is good. A chip butty is home made chips or chip shop chips not oven chips on sliced bread and less butter. I’m not a fan of pickled eggs or marmite, but a sliced pickled onion on a grated cheddar cheese sandwich is lovely 😂👍🏻
Yeah, most of the stuff would have been ok in a context or eaten as the natives do. I've never understood why beans on toast should be considered intrinsically unappealing to all but the initiated Brits--beans on some form of bread are classic and universal around the world and usually accompanied by onions or some form of pickle (Indian and Mexcian food are famous for this) and classic baked beans are flavored with mustard, ketchup, molasses.

they should try chips and gravy or chips with curry sauce, but only from a chip shop
@@millywood6801 Chips and gravy aren't new to us. We have been eating this for years.
However, you can't buy this in bakers as it doesn't keep well. ; )
No shouldn’t have any cinnamon in it. It’s just made with strawberry jam and suet pudding and is a northern dish traditionally enjoyed in freezing cold weather
@@robynemme2458Don't know what a cinnamon roll is but my goodness rolypoly pudding definitely needs custard. Don't know if you'd count that as a sauce though😂😂😂
Just found your channel and really enjoyed watching as I made a rather homely cottage pie.
I've subscribed and look forward to watching lots more!
You are so kind, thank you so much! Your cottage pie sounds incredible, enjoy!
I am not native English person but I love this food!
Now that was a brilliant food tour! I did laugh at your reactions, but I will say that you were very brave. Loved it.
I love baked beans on toast, this is really interesting, because i used to eat baked beans on toast when i was a kid, on saturday we would have a barbeque, and if we had any left over baked bean, on Sunday Morning i would Finnish off the baked beans by putting them on buttered toast and i would scramble up eggs to eat with it. yummy!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That was so many years ago, thank you for bringing back a lovely memory. 💕💕
Eeeew
Thank you for making me laugh! You're to be commended for your bravery.
Thank-you for the laughter. I was with the two of you all the way, and my stomach was absolutely turning over when you made the chips on the bun. Koodos to both of you for getting through trying it all!
I LOVE Kirsten’s reactions!!!!
I lived with an Englishman in another life and we would have beans on toast for a quick dinner. I enjoyed this video.
That's great to hear! Thanks so much Anna!
You two were so funny and so honest, that I would watch you again and again just to catch your expressions. Oh, and maybe, get an idea for my breakfast.😃 Thank you for being so realistic.😊
Hahah we had so much fun making the video.
@@KirstenJoerg And to my delight, it shows. 😊
Kirston giving Joreg the " Alice Kramden" look 😂
It seems like foods that were used during the ration period? Right ?
@@katevalentine7075 You may be right. Those type of foods were made to last longer and not spoil very soon. Never mind the awkward taste. If I had to choose one that I could eat regularly, I would choose beans on toast.
Oh that black and white dish pattern is gorgeous!!
So happy you like it! It's Burleigh Pottery from Stoke-on-Trent.
@@KirstenJoerg thank you for sharing the name 🖤🤍🖤
Usually we eat rollypolly pudding with lots of custard to knock back the sweetness of the pudding such a fun video
Very creative idea! Joerg has an iron stomach! You made me laugh out loud. A simple idea that was very entertaining ❤
Stick with a “Bacon Butty Sandwich.” Cheers.🤣🇬🇧👍
OMG! I am roaring with laughter 😂 I was raised in England, now in Australia but I ❤ all the things you tried but not marmite, we have Vegemite! Your face, Kirsten, it was worth watching for your reactions 😂 I guess it’s where you are raised 🤷🏻♀️
🤣🤣🤣
Only chips I like are home made with sauce and salt
I don't think I've ever laughed so hard at a tasting video!!! You're both brilliant. Thank you for making my day!
If Agatha Christie wrote about this experience, she would call the book "Death by Carbs."😆
OMG hilarious!🤣
Charles Dickens' great eggspectations!
🤣🤣🤣
Good one! Death by Carbs but the Egg did it :D
I don’t think I lol 😂 so much at 1 of your videos ever ! This was fun and hilarious 😆. Thank you for making my day ❤
Super Unterhaltung. Deine Reaktionen Kirsten 😂🤣.
U.S. citizen here. I've tried beans on toast. Putting a fried egg on top makes it much tastier.
Yes, lovely with a fried egg.
Chips are mainly made in a sandwich, Pickled onions usually eaten with a ploughman's lunch. Roly poly goes with custard
I'm British and I've never tried pickled eggs and I think I made a good choice 😂😂
👍👍👍
@@lydiarosebrita4901 same I'm 68 and never had one, never even seen them.
Pickled eggs are usually sitting on the bar in old taverns in America.
Me either!
That was hilarious! The rolypoly pudding definitely needs custard (not had it in years but my mother’s was delicious), and chip butties need sliced white bread and fish shop chips…..and probably a beer induced hunger😅. I’m with you all the way with the pickled eggs……and I’m amazed you had never done beans on toast as a quick and filling meal, a standby for the occasions when you’ve been caught in traffic, got soaked on the way home and all other similar disasters!
This was entertaining! I LOVE beans on toast, cheese and pickle sandwich’s and marmite on toast, but more as evening or lunch snacks/ meals. My grandmother was Austrian and I grew up with Germanic food too!
Kirsten you joerg could have your own tv show,so enjoyable to watch well done loved it.....
Wow, thank you!
@@KirstenJoergshe definitely could! She's a star and Joerg the perfect contrast.
My nieces husband is German 🇩🇪 they lived in London where he tried English food he loves it all 😂 they are back in Germany now but he misses uk food 🏴
There’s so much great food in the UK! We always go to amazing pubs. This video was very niche.
@@KirstenJoerg I have been to Germany I liked the German food especially the sausages x
So funny! Joerg really enjoys this! And your dishes are gorgeous! ❤
❤You two are so creative. Coming up with a unique and thoroughly enjoyable video every single week is no easy feat but you succeed regardless and this week is no exception. Baked beans are considered a must have for picnics and barbeques in the U.S. along with potato salad, but I never thought of having them with toast however I have made baked bean sandwiches. Definitely not a breakfast food though, LOL! Thank you for sharing so much with us. ❤
That's very kind, thank you so much!
@Dao. Hi. Same for Canadian BBQs/Picnics/Potlucks. Homemade baked beans & potato salad a must have tradition. Amazingly if 3 women brought baked beans they all can taste different...YUM is how I describe all recipes. Cheers.
@@zoidmo3388 Hello neighbor to the North. That is so true about different recipes having different flavors. Good recipes are coveted by those who find or develop them for that very reason.. The same goes for potato salad. It's all good which is why it's always popular at summer gatherings :)
@@dao8805 ❤you're right, true for potato salad too. Now I'm craving for it lol
We're impressed that you did this! Your reactions were the best to watch. And at times we were cringing over the sounds of the food or the sight of so much butter! Thankfully you ending with your delicious looking homemade strawberry cake and great attitudes was wonderful! Thanks again for another enjoyable time. Keep trying more British foods!❤
A fun video! Thank you for brightening up my day! 💖
This was such fun to watch.
This was so fun! Thoroughly enjoyed this 😂
This was movie material…..so hilarious…..loved it😊
I love your calm beautiful videos. They're so relaxing. But this was really fun and laughter is like medicine! My husband wasn't watching but he was chuckling at all the exclamations of disgust.😅
🤣🤣🤣
I was born and bred in UK,but never tried pickled egg or onions and after your reactions I think I will definitely give them a miss😂 As for jam roly-poly must be home made and served with hot custard, even then it’s an acquired taste 😂
My tummy hurts I laughed so much at your faces eating the egg Kirsten 😂😂😂😂 love you two
Thank you for this video. I am duly forewarned about the egg and pickle!
The ASMR in your videos is unreal. Love it
Hi Kirsten and Joerg ! . Lovely couple ! and this video was so funny ! . Thank you so much !!!
Marmite needs to be very thinly applied, nice on toast with beans or melted cheese. Branston pickle nice in a cheese sandwich, or with a ploughman's lunch.
Definitely prefer it on cheese but not plain on butter even if it's super thinly applied :)
When I was a little girl, my aunty used to fry fresh laver in a pan, sprinkled with vinegar and served with bacon... delicious!
My wife and I had good laugh at your antics. Thoroughly enjoyed that review of different foods!
Such an enjoyable video, thank you, Kirsten and Joerg! For me as a viewer the absolute highlight was that innocent-looking pickled egg🤣 I hope though your stomachs weren't too upset after such a wild breakfast combo😁
Oh!!! I spoke too soon! The German Strawberry Cake looks AMAZING!!! 🤩 And I agree - homemade is always my preference. 🥰
You two brave souls! You ate this food so we didn’t have to! Thanks for that! But, I agree, carbs on carbs. Just too much.
Amazing! Hahah Joerg has great taste... cheese and pickle is great! well done to you both for trying all of those!
Joerg actually surprised me with his "easy to please" palate! Kristen's face said everything ......no words required! Lol
I was waiting for Kirsten to ask Joerg, "who ARE you?" This made me laugh out loud!
🤣🤣🤣
@@lisad8388 AS I said...the Alice Kramden look to Ralph from the Honeymooners
I was actually thinking about the food and if I liked it.
Hi Kirsten and Joerg great video 😀😀. You really need chip shop chips for a chip butty. Also pickled onions are best eaten with something else such as with hams and cheese as part of a ploughman’s lunch. The jam roly poly would traditionally be eaten with custard too xx
Hello! Yes of course though I will never like a chip butty. I find the combination simply weird and it's not for me lol.
Bird's custard.
I am so glad Joerg likes some of these things so they don’t go to waste. I am sure I would react more like Kirsten. Fun video. 🤗😆
This was such a fun to watch you both...I laughed and laughed so much. Love your spirit to try these new things.
I've never understood why beans on toast should be considered intrinsically unappealing to all but the initiated Brits--beans on some form of bread are classic and universal around the world and usually accompanied by onions or some form of pickle (Indian and Mexcian food are famous for this) and classic baked beans are flavored with mustard, ketchup, molasses.
. Now you make them sound really disgusting...
Thank you so much for sharing your home and meals
My whole family loves pickled eggs. We make them with white vinegar and beet juice, you can add a little sugar, they are absolutely delicious.
Good for you! I suspect there might be a genetic element.
I have never thought how an egg could look so innocent! Hahaha. Joerg should have a "mukbang" channel from today! Hahaha. Kirsten heartily laughing with a wheezing sound is so funny. Thank you for another wonderful video. Love you, guys! :)
Your videos are truly delightful, thank you!
Thanks so much!
My Husbands family are Welsh and he loves laverbread. Traditionally it's served with fried bacon and cockles. Personally I hate it, but then I don't like anything from the sea. This was so funny watching your face Kristen, trying some of those foods. You're quite brave really I think 😂♥️
I’m second generation Irish American. We love fry sandwiches with beef or chicken gravy!
One of your most entertaining videos. It was so good to laugh with you in such troubled times. My husband and I watch from Florida.
Oh thank you!
I think the beans on toast was the safest thing you ate, with the chip butty coming in a close second. You two are so sweet and adorable. I needed this today. Thank you!
