    You can purchase the V10 at the following links:
    Buy Dyson V10 on Amazon - geni.us/A1xZ (Amazon)
    Buy Dyson V10 at Other Retailers - shop-links.co/1722356415608913990
    CORRECTION - Annual maintenance costs are going to be closer to $0 / year.
    Our original estimates were based on an incorrect replacement schedule. One of our viewers (Phillip Christian) also brought to our attention that Dyson believes the battery will last 15 years. I'd like your reviews to cover how the vacuum performs with pet hair too. I'm also interested in how heavy it feels while using it. Just spec weight doesn't really transfer to that subjective measure.

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  6 лет назад +1

      Thanks for your feedback. I will definitely make a point to include more info on how it feels when using it moving forward.
      Pet hair is something I'm still debating the best way to include in my reviews.
      Acquiring enough pet hair that is also consistent enough for fair testing has proved to be more difficult than I originally imagined it would. However, I'm still working on it.

    For your standard sound test, what is the distance from the vacuum? Too close, and it'll be unreasonably loud, too far, and it will be quieter than it would be to the person actually using it (which is important if you're thinking of hearing damage levels).

    Why the annual costs? James said batteries should last 15 years. Filter should be good for many years also.

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  6 лет назад +4

      Wow, 15 years on the battery? I had not seen that. That's incredible.
      For anyone else wondering where James Dyson said that, you can see him quoted in this article: www.techradar.com/news/james-dyson-promises-15-year-battery-life-for-the-cyclone-v10-cordless-vacuum
      That seems pretty insane to me. I've never heard of a battery lasting that long. I'm going to reach out to a few battery experts and see what they think. But even if just 5-7 years, that would still be incredible.
      As far as the filter goes, I double checked with Dyson's support staff who did confirm the filter as a lifetime filter, meaning it may never need to be replaced.
      We based our original estimated annual maintenance costs on Dyson's previous V-series models (since most V10 replacement parts aren't yet available).
      In any case, based on James Dyson's remarks and remarks from Dyson.com customer chat it would seem annual maintenance costs are going to be virtually zero.
      Thanks for bringing this to my attention, Philip.

      @@ModernCastle I’m sorry I took so long to respond to this! But to answer your question I believe I mean the new fluffy roller or whatever is called. For hard floors. It has a laser light which is actually pretty cool and actually more than a gimmick or just looks. It really does help. Specially in darker places. Or just in regular places. It guides and lights the floor in a way that you know exactly how dirty it is and what and where is picking up. But what I meant was that I don’t need that. I can live without that. For a few hundred dollars less and still get a great vacuum. So I opted for the V10. I’m supposed to get it on Monday or tomorrow. I still haven’t even tried it but I did my extensive research and when I found out about my options with older models I searched RUclips for a review on the V10 and clicked on your video because it caught my attention and I’m glad I did. There are different V10 models. Absolute and Animal are pretty much the same, just with different attachments. The Motorhead version has a smaller dust bin and a direct drive brush head where the former has a torque drive brush head.
    Can u explain the differences in the 2 different bursh heads?
    Also, how does it do on low power mode?

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  6 лет назад +1

      Yes, that's correct.
      I recently added a more comprehensive comparision of the V10 sub-models here - moderncastle.com/vacuum-cleaner-reviews/dyson-v10-review/ (scroll a bit down the page)
      The V10 Absolute and Animal use Dyson's newest multi-surface cleaning head, the torque drive. The V10 Motorhead uses Dyson's older multi-surface cleaning head, the direct drive. Dyson's V8, V7, and most (but not all) of their V6 models also use the direct drive cleaning head. According to Dyson.com the torque drive is able to remove 25% more dust from carpets compared to the V8 with the direct drive head.
      From Dyson.com:
      "With a DC motor housed within the brush bar, it transfers torque more efficiently, to dig bristles deeper into carpet and dislodge more dirt. Provides up to 20 minutes of fade-free runtime (in Suction mode II)."
      On the surface, both cleaning heads look the same. During my cleaning tests I did not notice a substantial difference between the torque and direct drive cleaning heads. However, I also don't have a test currently to measure at the "dust" level currently.

    • @soul4feels
      @soul4feels 6 лет назад

    The fluffy brush was designed for carpet but works on everything. The brush you claim is for carpet is, but for reaching dirt deeper in the carpet piles that the fluffy one might not work on. I would not use this abrasive deep cleaning attachment on carpets all the time.

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  4 года назад +2

      I appreciate your perspective, but what Dyson says about each part doesn't support what you're saying.
      The Fluffy brush is designed for hard surface flooring. See here - www.dyson.com/support/journey/tools/966489-01.html
      According to Dyson's product page:
      The soft roller brush was "Invented for hard floors" and it has "Soft woven nylon envelops debris, while anti-static carbon fiber filaments remove fine dust from hard floors" Dyson never says it is designed or intended for carpets.
      Regarding the high torque cleaning head...again, via Dyson:
      The High Torque Cleaning head "... drives stiff nylon bristles deep into carpet to remove dirt, and carbon fiber filaments capture fine dust on hard floors."

    • @rb.6701
      @rb.6701 4 года назад

      @@ModernCastle The high torque cleaning head will be useless for most people on carpets who don't regularly lift heavy weights; I initially assumed the soft brush was meant for hardwood floors and the other for carpets until I actually tried using them. I also have a long pile carpet I would not use the latter on as it might pull it apart. Obviously the Dyson page is authoritative (and I'm taking your word for it), though the Amazon page for the soft brush notes it as being "FOR ALL FLOOR TYPES - The Genuine Dyson Soft Roller Cleaner head for V10 models works great on all types of flooring but specifically designed for use on carpeted floors."

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  4 года назад

      @@rb.6701 Could you send me a link to the Amazon page that says that? I'd really like to better understand what they are saying.
      How do you figure that the High Torque cleaning head is..."useless for most people on carpets who don't regularly lift heavy weights"
      The V10 is incredibly light, lighter than any upright vacuum (in fact, it's about 70% lighter than a typical upright). True, there is some downward force, but it's really only notable when on MAX mode and with all of the seal gates descended. Otherwise, the multi-surface brushroll glides along the floor as well as any vacuum.
      In my view, I would say Dyson's V-series vacuums are ideal for consumers who don't don't lift heavy objects regularly. The only better alternative would be a robot vacuum, where you literally don't need to touch it at all.

      Sorry about that, we ended up doing them a while after recording this video. Here is our run time test data:
      Max - 5:30
      Medium - 26:50
      Low - 49:40

    i wish you would have tested some long hair .... cause rotating brushes and hairs dont do well...

    • @ModernCastle

      Finding an objective way to test long hair has been a challenge. "Harvesting" (for lack of a better word) enough hair is the issue.
      Would you consider synthetic hair from a long wig an appropriate stand in? We had considered using that in the past.

      I have long hair and the large diameter of the brush roll was designed to resolve this hair tangling issue. I can vouch that it is suitable for long hair and does not get tangled :)

    Why don’t you film the carpet tests too... hmmm....

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  6 лет назад

      1) Redundant - I shot them on the first video and when I went to render them it just felt like a lot of really boring video clips that weren't showing much
      2) Visibility - it's much more difficult to see the debris in carpet compared to the hardwood floors. This is especially true when you get down to a fairly small percentage of debris left in the carpet. Many times it looks clean, but the debris has been buried or fallen further into the carpet.
      All that said, if you think you'd like to see them I'm more than happy to bring them back.
      Would the above issues not bother you?
      Thanks for your feedback!

    For the big chunks of cereal, just take the head off and suck up the bits with the open tube. SImple.

      You're not wrong.
      The reason we don't do that during our cleaning performance tests is because virtually every vacuum has that ability to do that.
      Not having to use a hose or other attachment is more convenient (in our view). So we try and show how it performs with the most simple test.

      I agree, fair enough. I have an older model with a turbo head and I find the spinning brush flicks some kinds of dirt around the place and doesn't quite pick it all up - say anything bigger than a tic-tac or thereabouts. And things like strings of lint from a mop, for example - the head comes off and they all go straight up the pipe, because I do not want to be unwidning long stringy things from the turbo head. Other than that the machine has been working great for 15 years, but it sure would be nice to have one of these little beauties. Alas the price!

      @ModernCastle  6 лет назад

      Great to know it has lasted you a strong 15 years. That's impressive!
      We noticed a little bit of the flicking as well, but it wasn't too dramatic. When we used the fluffy head it does a much better job of not flicking anything.

    Your focus on your camera is way off.

      Yeah...it's not the best. Auto focus is kind of wonky on the GH4.

    I like how you say stick cleaning 'mode' or hand held 'mode' as if it's a robot. Don't you mean stick cleaning 'position' or hand held 'position'

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  6 лет назад +2

      Position, mode, configuration...I guess I just sort of think of them as the same thing.
      I thought "mode" would most easily communicate what I was trying to say in the video.
      My apologies if it added to the confusion, Vic!

      Modern Castle you also forgot to mention that ALL tools can connect to both the pole and the v10 itself. Example: you can connect the primary cleaning head to both the end of the pole or directly to the v10 itself for more convience
