    Cyansky P12R: Video Transcript
    General thoughts after a week of usage/size comparison/practicality/interesting things:
    • So the P12R is my first Cyansky light. I've seen a bunch of their posts on social media and have been curious about their lights. Cyansky sent me this P12R as a free sample for the purposes of this review. I've always been interested in the pocket thrower niche, though I don't really have any other 14500 pocket thrower besides the Convoy T3. I've generally stuck with 18650 lights for extended runtime. The great thing about the 14500 form factor is that it takes up way less space in your pocket, it's super light, and accepts typical AA cells too.
    • Comes with 800mAh 14500 cells, charging cable, lanyard, and metal clip.
    • Comparison with TS10, Acebeam Pokelit AA, Sofirn SC18.
    Overall Construction, LED, lens, bezel and reflector
    • Anodised aluminium. The anodizing is smooth and definitely feels better quality than an average budget flashlight. I have the green version but there's also a black version. Machining is excellent. Interesting detailing. The light is operated by one metal side switch (also a battery indicator). Stainless steel double-sided clip. USB-C onboard charging. Magnetic tail.
    • The head of the light has a larger diameter than the body to accommodate a larger and deeper SMO reflector. Osram P9 is perfectly centered. Simple bezel - glued down.
    UI - modes
    • From off, four clicks to lock/unlock. Press once to switch on to memory mode. Press and hold to switch off.
    • Once on, press to go from Eco, low, medium, and high.
    • Press and hold from off for strobe, and press and hold again for SOS.
    Performance - total output, beam profile, longevity, practicality
    • CCT, CRI, ceiling bounce tests
    • Mainly throwy beam, really impressed with how far this little light can throw. P9 produces some decent spill as well, unlike the Osram W1.
    Considerations
    • The head is a little awkward due to it being slightly larger than the body. It's slightly larger in diameter than the S2+. I think Cyansky could have gotten away with making this a small 18650 light. Similar to the Sofirn SC18/32. With that said, it is still smaller than most 18650 lights out there and throws further. Of course, a big advantage is that it can also take a normal AA cell. Not the case with most 18650 lights.
    • UI takes a bit of getting used to. Most of the side switch lights I own have the hold-down to change mode. Rather than press through four modes. So I find myself accidentally switching modes instead of switching the light off.
    Verdict
    • The P12R is an impressive little pocket thrower that also produces a decent amount of spill. It's beginner-friendly due to the USB-C charging, AA compatibility, and versatility (makeshift headlamp), basically comes with everything you need. I'd recommend this if you're looking for a solid, throwy EDC light.

    Hey Darren, I love your reviews and I can’t wait to see you reviewing the new Nitecore EDC33. Keep up the good work!

      Hi Nikolay, thank you mate - I will try to get a sample of it. Looks very unique but I can see there being some heat issues with a host of that size and output.

    • @nikolaymivanov
      @nikolaymivanov 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@DarrenYeoYT that issues are mentioned by people who does not understand that you can’t use such small device with such huge power for longer time, it is not built with that in mind. For example I use my flashlight almost all the time with the lowest mode around 50 lumens. When I need more power, I need it for a couple of seconds, and I don’t expect from such small device to sustain max power for longer time. There are special flashlights built for that purpose.

      That's a good point. If the highest mode can be accessed very easily, that will keep me happy. I like how many companies are creating these dual beam flashlights, and approaching it in very different ways. For example, Acebeam has the M2, which uses two separate lenses for each beam. @@nikolaymivanov

      @@DarrenYeoYT Your colleague @flashlightcrazy did a comparison between Acebeam M1 and M2, and the M2 is awful to use it with one hand, because it has a tile switch for on/off and rear button for changing modes flood/sporlight. And after I bought Acebeam P16, believing that dual tile buttons will be more useful and easier to use, I now believe that one switch for all modes, with instant access to turbo, or special modes is easier and useful than complicated dual switches.

    Curious on this - a 2AA / 14500 thrower.
    Convoy just released T5 in the Lazada store but the specs looks like it's more flood than thrower.
    Have a prosperous and "bright" year ahead Darren. Hope I can support you on your affiliate links.

      Looks like that T5 has a TIR lens paired with smaller domed emitter so balanced in terms of flood/throw. Thank you Alvin happy new year to your and your family!

    Have you tried the Wurkkos TS12? It's a 14500 thrower. It doesn't take AA 1.5v or NiMH.

    • @DarrenYeoYT
      @DarrenYeoYT  6 месяцев назад +1

      No not yet, but it will throw further than this one. The head looks a bit annoying though so I haven't bothered getting one.

    • @WilliamsKnifeLife
      @WilliamsKnifeLife 6 месяцев назад

      @DarrenYeoYT It has a tight little spot beam and doesn't come with a pocket clip. I took the clip off the Sofrin SP10 Pro and attached it. I wear it horizontally on a belt loop. The head is larger than the body at about 35mm. In my day, most flashlights had a bigger lens, and they were pathetic in output compared to today's flashlights.

    This has very similar throw numbers to the Convoy T3/T2 cslnm1. I think I like the Convoy better though because of the smaller head. Yet, the spill seems nicer on this one.

    • @DarrenYeoYT
      @DarrenYeoYT  6 месяцев назад

      This would throw way further with a cslnm1 in there. P9 is a good all rounder with decent throw still :D

      @@DarrenYeoYT Maybe they'll put one in as an option eventually. I think that would be a very fun pocket thrower.

      I find the W2 throws just as well but with twice the output. @@johna2193

    I'm surprised you don't have a GTmicro. 14500 only, but it *will* work with a LFP cell at 3.2V, albeit at reduced brightness.
    No built-in charger, but I dropped in a "14500" cell with charging doodad, Wuben, I think, so it's really a 14430 cell with the charger making up the remainder for a 14500 form-factor.
    Bigger reflector, so a tighter hotspot and more throw, nice simple UI (narsim) with ramping. It ticks all the boxes.

      Haven't heard of that one before.. I'll go check it out :) I find many of these throwy AA lights still need a larger bezel to get the job done.
