i personally think panda conservation is a waste of money compared to other creatures. pandas are picky breeders, eaters and contribute no more than any other animal inside their habitat. think of bees and other insects, they can polinate plants as they collect necter for food which is such an integril part of their eco system, or plants which act as a food source for the entire ecosystem and can be bread by just cutting off a stem and planting it in the right conditions. pandas are grazing animals, they can be prey for hunters or they can be decomposed by insects and bacteria, something literally every other creature can do. i do think it's important to not fuck over our planet but we do need to prioritise the ecosystem over cuteness because for all of history creatures have been going extinct, even other species of our genus, we don't have the tools to stop nature from taking its course, maybe in the future, but in that case just get the pandas dna in vials and resurrect the species when we're gods idk.l
We need to prioritize not deforesting the animals homes and we wouldn't have to put money into keeping the animal alive. It is now our duty to help the Panda after we destroyed their lives. It doesn't matter if they don't help the ecosystem. What matters is that we would be accountable for another extinction that didn't need to happen all because we wanted to build a new mall or more shopping centers. This was nothing to do with nature killing off the Panda. It was man who was killing them off and now its time to give back and assure another species doesn't go extinct for our wrong doing.
Bees are another interesting subject actually. For North and South america, honey bees are actually an invasive species. They are not even supposed to be here. Not only are they not supposed to be here, but they basically are responsible for killing off a lot of the natural pollinators that were here before them. Bees are actually a pest in this side of the world, contextually.
Who is we? I'm pretty sure the Chinese government is responsible for 99% of the conservation effort and they have strong reasons to keep pandas from going extinct.

Thing is, according to this video, the bamboo needs the 100% die off for the next generation of seedlings to thrive. If you had, say, 20 different species comprising a bamboo forested, evenly distributed, then after one of them flowered the remaining 19 would remain to choke out the young shoots from the flowering one and kill them off.
Pandas are species that nature tried to weed off because of their poor dietary choises but Man had to meddle with the works of natural selection. Bamboos are unimaginably poor in nutrients and a Panda has to eat SO MUCH of it just to have enough energy to stay alive.
The problem is also their digestive stystem that looks more like that of a carnivore, and it doesen't combine well with an herbivore diet only. They do not only need to find their particular speices that they eat, they have to eat cupious amounts of it too to sustain themselves because of how fast the relatively low calorie bamboo passes through their body.
Soo what I’m gathering is that nothing is wrong with Giant Pandas, they’ve existed for 10 million years doing what they do but humans screwed up their ecosystem. I don’t think the pandas are the one with the problem here
Neat vid, but the fix for this is extremely easy if it hasnt been done already, mixing different bamboo species with different life spans, I have bamboo in my yard (my grandfather got a feed seeds back in the 80s) and currently parts of them are indeed dying off, that being said, the overwhelming majority is perfectly fine, so its not an issue like you make it out to be

Pandas eat bamboo all day and only get like 30% nutrition from bamboo. Why can't we get a fresh batch of pandas and teach them to hunt for small animals such as rabbits they can eat meat so I think they would get more adrenaline be less lazy and maybe even reproduce more. I heard bamboo has alot more sugar then most plants so I would assume pandas currently just have a bad addiction to the bamboo and got lazy over time because it's easier to eat and sleep all day rather then hunt and hibernate
Also, chickens basically evolved in the same habitats and flourish when given bamboo outcroppings to hide within. I've seen this in a few spots and it works great, even seems to calm down roosters a bit from being anxious and aggressive since the flock can just take cover in the bamboo
So sad... We keep displacing things and people and we don’t even think of the consequences anymore.... especially when it comes to animals. It’s like people don’t care if some animals die off..... What’s wrong with this world...?
I'm happy you made this video, we learned about the panda situation in college about 5 months ago and it's true, they should've expanded their habitat back to a reasonable size before so many of them died out but now it's almost too late. And for some reason I feel like these wildlife preservation companies don't really care that much, they just post notices about how pandas are going extinct to make people donate and then take the money. But as always there's other factors that come in play with this like the government or other much stronger companies that basically control how their country operates.

Our family had a bamboo forest back of our back yard.(the bamboo was between a river and our back yard.) We happened to see the forest died. Yes, it was pretty quick. We were told that was once a hundred year occurrence.
Bamboo has a wonderful survival strategy however pandas can barely digest their food, they have extremely hard times finding mates and can’t even defend themselves very well, they also aren’t that important to their ecosystem.
I think that actually is a true fact. if you look at the atrocities communist China committed against its own people, you would see that they don’t have to much value for their citizens lives.
I just think its a little bit too extreme to say that its too late for pandas when the effects your describing are so far into the future, there will probably some sort of way that bamboo forests would be able to recover, China spends tons of money to save its national symbol, and there's no way it would let the bear go extinct in the wild.

pandas are grazing animals, they can be prey for hunters or they can be decomposed by insects and bacteria, something literally every other creature can do. i do think it's important to not fuck over our planet but we do need to prioritise the ecosystem over cuteness because for all of history creatures have been going extinct, even other species of our genus, we don't have the tools to stop nature from taking its course, maybe in the future, but in that case just get the pandas dna in vials and resurrect the species when we're gods idk.l
We need to prioritize not deforesting the animals homes and we wouldn't have to put money into keeping the animal alive. It is now our duty to help the Panda after we destroyed their lives. It doesn't matter if they don't help the ecosystem. What matters is that we would be accountable for another extinction that didn't need to happen all because we wanted to build a new mall or more shopping centers. This was nothing to do with nature killing off the Panda. It was man who was killing them off and now its time to give back and assure another species doesn't go extinct for our wrong doing.
Bees are another interesting subject actually. For North and South america, honey bees are actually an invasive species. They are not even supposed to be here. Not only are they not supposed to be here, but they basically are responsible for killing off a lot of the natural pollinators that were here before them. Bees are actually a pest in this side of the world, contextually.
Who is we? I'm pretty sure the Chinese government is responsible for 99% of the conservation effort and they have strong reasons to keep pandas from going extinct.

it is very true that the giant panda is not an efficient target for conservation, but is it an effective one? The answer is very likely yes. Not only do they serve as a cute symbol for conservation, but they are also a benchmark because when even Pandas can be saved, then other animals definitely have a better chance and at a lower cost.

I can't find a supporting article, but I've heard of pandas in the U.S. being fed shoots from what we call cane here, but it is actually a variety of bamboo.
So if pandas can eat bamboo native to the U.S., surely they can eat more than one kind in their native habitat. Of course there are different types of pandas and maybe some have more restricted diets than others.

Thing is, according to this video, the bamboo needs the 100% die off for the next generation of seedlings to thrive. If you had, say, 20 different species comprising a bamboo forested, evenly distributed, then after one of them flowered the remaining 19 would remain to choke out the young shoots from the flowering one and kill them off.
Pandas are species that nature tried to weed off because of their poor dietary choises but Man had to meddle with the works of natural selection. Bamboos are unimaginably poor in nutrients and a Panda has to eat SO MUCH of it just to have enough energy to stay alive.

The problem is also their digestive stystem that looks more like that of a carnivore, and it doesen't combine well with an herbivore diet only. They do not only need to find their particular speices that they eat, they have to eat cupious amounts of it too to sustain themselves because of how fast the relatively low calorie bamboo passes through their body.
Soo what I’m gathering is that nothing is wrong with Giant Pandas, they’ve existed for 10 million years doing what they do but humans screwed up their ecosystem.

Neat vid, but the fix for this is extremely easy if it hasnt been done already, mixing different bamboo species with different life spans, I have bamboo in my yard (my grandfather got a feed seeds back in the 80s) and currently parts of them are indeed dying off, that being said, the overwhelming majority is perfectly fine, so its not an issue like you make it out to be

Pandas eat bamboo all day and only get like 30% nutrition from bamboo. Why can't we get a fresh batch of pandas and teach them to hunt for small animals such as rabbits they can eat meat so I think they would get more adrenaline be less lazy and maybe even reproduce more. I heard bamboo has alot more sugar then most plants so I would assume pandas currently just have a bad addiction to the bamboo and got lazy over time because it's easier to eat and sleep all day rather then hunt and hibernate

Also, chickens basically evolved in the same habitats and flourish when given bamboo outcroppings to hide within. I've seen this in a few spots and it works great, even seems to calm down roosters a bit from being anxious and aggressive since the flock can just take cover in the bamboo

I'm happy you made this video, we learned about the panda situation in college about 5 months ago and it's true, they should've expanded their habitat back to a reasonable size before so many of them died out but now it's almost too late.
And for some reason I feel like these wildlife preservation companies don't really care that much, they just post notices about how pandas are going extinct to make people donate and then take the money.
But as always there's other factors that come in play with this like the government or other much stronger companies that basically control how their country operates.
