Exactly what I’m thinking. People were chasing him and he ends up dead? With a partial boot print? They obviously swept the dirt to cover their tracks. I kept waiting for him to say how they contacted the police etc… He said the most obvious is usually the answer.

Definitely! I'm certain any SR group would make sure to point those findings out to the authorities, who would have to be called in anyway in case of a death.
I figure that part was left out to make the story "more interesting".

Story 6: I didn't know that my husband accidentally calling me by his first wife's name was supposed to be a deal breaker. I sort of expected that he might call me by his first wife's name because after all they had been married for a LONG time and it would just be a habit and would not really mean anything. As time passed, I sort of thought that he would never call me by her name because I figured we were past that point but when we had been married FOR TWELVE YEARS, her name just popped out of his mouth as we were talking one evening. I could tell that he was horrified because he had no idea how I would take it and I knew he didn't want to make me mad and he didn't want to hurt my feelings. I told him it was okay and that it didn't really bother me, and it didn't. If he still loved her he would still be with her but he wasn't, he was with me. I was not even tempted to let this slip of the tongue destroy what we had with each other. He never did that again and we were married for another 20 years before he died of complications of Alzheimer's. It would have been foolish beyond belief for me to have thrown away those happy 20 years because one day he slipped and called me her name! To anyone who would consider this a deal breaker, my best advice to you is, "Get over yourself!" Don't be so insecure that you attach a lot of importance to something that is not important at all!

Story 4 hit hard. My dad has recently been diagnosed with dementia too. In some small saving grace hes developed a paranoia about driving or walking too far from home so, the likelihood of him getting lost is slim. Still, it scares the crap out of me that Ill get a call from my step-mother that hes gone walkabout. Its hard to watch and hear someone who was so agile, quick witted and great memory, slowly lose those abilities and not even realise it. I gladly listen to the same story several times and questions ive already answered for I know there will come a time - he wont even know who I am.

There's a way to teach them to be kind but also firm, direct and assertive, like if a stranger says "please come help me find my lost puppy!" The child could reply, "I sure hope you find your lost puppy but my parents told me I'm never to go with strangers no matter what! Have a nice day!" Also give the child examples a stranger might say like they lost puppy scenario or a promise of candy or ice cream or saying that they are a friend of the child's mom or dad and that they want the child to come with them.

And Story five: relatable. Scary to think about and way too overwhelming as a parent

    • @christafox13
      @christafox13 2 года назад +8

I don’t think there’s any age that’s too young to teach children stranger danger, in a ‘cautious’ not ‘fearful’ way. Also teach personal space and importance of private parts of the body. Kids inherently know certain things are wrong, and there are so many cases where they lack the vocabulary to explain things that happen to them properly to a parent or certainty that their discomfort is valid.
Stranger danger and caution interacting with others is necessary and important to be aware of at ALL AGES. Just as we teach kids not to run into the street or play with fire/touch hot stoves. There’s almost always an age appropriate way to explain things so they understand. It’s honestly so dangerous to not explain these things if your child leaves the home and goes out in public places, or if you have visitors or potentially abusive family members/friends entering your home.
Remember kids, adults don’t need help from small children. Be aware of your surroundings. And report your observations or any discomforts to your parents as soon as you can. 🤷🏼‍♀️

To the family with the dad with early onset dementia: I was a nurse for 38 yrs and though I spent most of those last 15/20 yrs as an ICU nurse I dealt with a lot of dementia patients. If you can find a way to keep him home with family he will fare better than placing him in a facility that doesn't and can't afford to hire the kinds of help these patients need. Also studies prove that people do much better around familiar things and people. There are agencies that can come in to help with the heavy duty care you can't. After all he never put his kids in a home because they weren't doing so great. In this day and age we are so busy it seems easier to pass that responsibility on to someone else, yet the ones who lose out are your children and even their children besides you. You will never regret keeping him at home with you as there is still so much of him to learn from and get love from. I promise you that if you put him in a home it slowly becomes "out of sight, out of mind". I've seen this happen so many times and watch these people deteriorate so quickly and die shortly after being placed away from family and friends. They lose the will to live. If their with family there is so much to see, do and it keeps their mind working better and they do much better. I saw so many broken hearted mom's and dads at the end of the day of father's day/mother's day, Christmas Easter and other holidays. After not being visited by family the end of the day for these adults is devastating to nursing staff. It used to make me cry. I would have my own son's come in and visit patients to cheer them up and that helped, but it doesn't make up for family not being there. I hope you make the wisest decision and remember once their gone you can never bring them back. I will pray for you and dad. I only wish my dad was still alive to spend time with. He passed 3yrs ago and I miss him very much. God Bless you all.

My Dad who was the hardest worker and best provider for Mom and us 6 kids, 2 more that passed shortly after birth. Mom had many depressive years and was absent alot but Dad worked dawn until dusk and still took care of all of us.
He developed dementia in his early 80's and forgot even the smallest tasks, tying his shoes, locking a door, you get it.
Never in a million years would we ever have considered placing him among strangers because we weren't " strong enough" to care for him. He was with us until 2 days before his death and I wouldn't trade all the heartbreak, sadness but mostly pure joy at being able to return the love and caring he always had for his family. Miss you every day Dad.

To the guy whose father is showing signs of dementia, the answer depends greatly of your finances. If you can afford a decent place, you are much better placing him into a home. You then have staff who have time and experience to care for him, both things you definitely do not have! You can visit him as frequently as you possibly can, but keeping him at home is a huge mistake. Don’t worry about him being surrounded by strangers, you will be a stranger soon, you will have to keep him locked up, and can you feed and bathe and toilet him? Let him learn to know both the place and people before it gets too bad! It’s NOT selfish, it’s kindness!

Story 4 OP: find a nice memory care home and put your dad there. My grandmother with Alzheimer's moved in with us after experiencing a similarly rapid cognitive decline, and all it has done is drive my family apart. No one can stand her, and nearly every day there is a fight about when she needs to go to a memory care facility. We cannot effectively meet her level of care on our own, and paying for trained professionals to help has proved to be just as expensive as sending her to a specialized place. Visit your dad as often as you can, but for your family's, your marriage's, and your own sakes, do not move him in with you. It's not worth it

Story #2: It seems extremely odd to me that a guy, lost in the woods, would run and run and run, then he'd hunker down, with these three guys after him, ready to shoot and kill, and he can go to sleep within minutes. I've never heard a story where someone who's being hunted, are scared of something in the woods that may be stalking them, or any story of the like, where they could just drift off to sleep very quickly, and stay asleep, only waking twice, and drifting back off to sleep again straight afterwards. Normally, no matter how tired the teller is about what they fear, they cannot go off to sleep for hours, if they sleep at all that night. So, how is it that this guy can, with no fear? Other parts of this story don't add up either, but this is the biggest red flag to me. Another red flag is that the shooter didn't get a shot off. He only started running after the guy got his gun almost to his shoulders. Nah, not a real story. Something is so unbearably off here.

He also went from stating at it was warm outside to describing how he didn't have anything warmer than a sleeping bag which he then bundled up in. I'd understand both the bundling up in the sleeping bag and the falling asleep (due to hypothermia) if it was very cold but nah- I ain't buying it.

OK...Story 4...the cognitive decline? He asked, so I will share. I have never experienced such, but I know people who have. You gotta have thick skin. Things will be said or yelled that may break hearts. At the same time, imagine the fear dad is experiencing. Is there a way to have an in-home nurse daily? Being somewhere he can't recognize may scare him to death. That is hard...I know vicariously through friends and family. Yes, sending prayers for your family. Also, not all care-givers give actual care. If he has to go into a care facility, please research and get references. Visit as often as you can. I don't have my mom, grandmas, grandpas or my dad. All gone. I am also an only child. Cherish every day...❤

In the situation with the little boy in the woods,
It's good he at least found someone... I would've thanked God dearly!
We still have to teach them at any age stranger danger. Monsters are people that hide behind sweet trusting mask they can even be family members and other children.
Make sure to make your babies aware because children will always be trusting and think the best of others especially while being apart of a family of good people... Regardless of our warnings.
Let it be known how much you love your children to everyone your children are in contact with and that you and especially your husband are a force to be reckoned with when it comes to them.
It lets those Monsters know your kid's aren't their pray.
