So Simple. Thanks I understand the TRS to TRSS now, after endless time spent searching. Sooo well explained. Well demonstrated, sir.
very clear !! now I can understand why we weren't able to use my multi-directional microphone to my phone
For your zoom....try plugging the adapter into the phone first....then plug the zoom into the adapter last.
Thank you so much for explaining this. A job well done! I wasted hours trying to figure out why my Comica CVM-WM100 microphone system wasn't recording my audio properly when using the mic.
This is the best video about microphones at all time ❤️❤️❤️
Great ...It solved my problem! I had a TRRS Mic which did not worked with PC.
The best vid on the net on the subject👍
Thank you. Yeah when I made this video, at that time, I remember searching all kinds of videos for the answers that I give and I had to watch a bunch of videos and their overly wordy vids to get the answer. So I made this video in hopes to make it easier to understand. Thanks again. TD
Thank you! Do you think this would would with a laptop, like a MacBook Pro?
maybe
Nice video...However is there a way to separate left and right mic inputs? from what I can see the two lavs are "shorted" together... Am I seeing this right?
Yes however, you'll need to use a Mixer to do that. Watch this video for an explanation. ruclips.net/video/g-D9IEAt0Fs/видео.html
Very straight forward and thanks for citing some of the practical usage
Is it the same issue with Rode Mic Go?
I believe your zoom is not working with the adapter because it outputs a stereo unbalanced signal over trs, while your other microphones are sending mono balanced signals. Try recording the audio coming out of a headphone jack on your computer into this adapter, I don’t think your phone will record any audio, due to something called common mode rejection (part of balanced circuitry design)
I agree the output from the Zoom is probably TS and so the signal is unbalanced. Good advice.
Just a note, if your phone has a protective cover the jack may not go all the way in.
My adaptor won't go all the way in even with my case removed
How to connect shotgun mic to the computer am specifically speaking about, Boya MM1 .
Unable to connect to my system
Good question, I explain that same issue as I had a similar problem with my zoom at 3:00
this is very helpful! thank you, im about to buy a shotgun rode microphone using a samsung s10 plus for vlogging, thank you so much
will it work on razer laptop. it has only one combo port for audio and mic and for mic it only supports trrs with 4 pin
It should; however, make sure you are using the ports in accordance with their design.
but how to get the audio at the same time from a great external speaker?
Sometimes you need to add an amplifier.
Exactly what we needed! Thanks buddy
1:26 what vid-rec app are you using here? 🤔 Just wondering cause of the mic level meters and the other interface parts.. Looks quiet useful👌🏻🤓
will i damage a trrs post by plugging in a trs jack ? thank you
Hi Mark, Great question. Never force any jack into its port. Here's a second video that shares more info. ruclips.net/video/-5N2dw3RZrE/видео.html
Thanks for this. Exactly the info I was looking for.
Same here. I wasted hours of frustration trying to see what was wrong.
QUESTION. Can i record music coming out of my laptop headphone jack to my Iphone with that?????????
That may work. Great idea. Im going to try that too and if it works, Ill make a video about it.
Did it work? I’m interested in record my guitar sound from guitar processor line output or headphone output into my iPhone
I have headphone in which i hear or talk in mobile on single trs 3.5mm but when i but in pc they can't work only giving sound not talking why?
I made this second video that show more detail. This may help with your quesiton. ruclips.net/video/-5N2dw3RZrE/видео.html
What app do you use to record in your phone?
I use the free recording apps myself.
Hey, great video! Could I record on a PC/smartphone some music directly coming out of an amplifier if I use a TRS aux cable with a TRRS adapter? Thank you in advance ;)
Depends there are other factors there you need to consider such as signal strenght etc. Good Luck TD
I bought a Deity Duo mini, and have a lav plugged into it, however I don't know how to get it so it records dual channel. It should record the mic into L and the Lav plugged into it into R. This works when plugged into my DSLR with the TRS cable, but as it states in their instructions, it will not do this when using the TRRS connection. I want to use this on my mobile phone (it has a better preamp with no noise) which is TRRS, but it just bakes the recording together in one track as Deity say. Wondering if I buy a TRS to USB adapter it will work through that port (recording separate channels)? I can't find any info on this at all.
do i need the adapter with the rode smartlav+? It says online its a TRRS
I made a second video that explains a little more details. Hope this helps ruclips.net/video/-5N2dw3RZrE/видео.html
Question. Could you connect iPhone 1 to iPhone 2. The purpose would be to use iPhone 1’s speakers out put signal to iPhone 2’s mic input. This would allow me to play a song on iPhone 1 during a normal voicemail recording and quality would improve dramatically. What do you think?
I don't have an Iphone myself. But sounds like a good idea. If it works, you should make a video and tell us all. Be cool to see. Good luck. T
Thank you this was so helpful
Thank you . However I find out trrs to mobile only record mono sound. I have a requirement where I want to record the stereo surrounding sound type output from guitar processor into video while recording. Is there a way to do that.
So depends on your mobile device too. TRRS for a mobile is stereo plus mic, and I guess for recording to a phone it depends on what it can do and what app you have. That is something to consider. I'll have to research that more myself.
@@TommyDrone I am having S21 ultra where app I ahve used filmic pro . Can you suggest any app which can solve this purpose
Tommy great video. I have a question for you. I have a Note10+ 5G . I bought an adapter but the white noise is horrible. What is your recommendation for a USB-C to TRRS adapter?
Thx
Ive already tried that and no luck. There are products that may make that possible. Ill search some more into that. Thanks TD
Hello,
I have an issue with a device equipped with a TRRS jack plug, maybe you could help me figure this out: it's a gaming chair that has built-in "bluetooth" speakers (they are actually wired to a 3.5mm jack that you plug into a Bluetooth receiver).
The sound is good over bluetooth, so listening to music is nice, but as for gaming or watching movies, there is just too much latency with the Bluetooth protocol, so I wanted to plug the 3.5mm jack directly to a sound source (laptop or smartphone).
But the output sound is extremely low and goes to the right speaker only. When I slightly pull the plug from the socket (but not totally), the sound gets louder, but still on the right speaker.
When toggling the pan settings in Windows, I noticed that both left and right channels output to my right speaker as if it were a mono speaker.
When I try another bluetooth receiver, I have the same low sound on the right speaker only.
When I plug regular headphones to the bluetooth receiver, the sound is extremely distorted, so I thought maybe it acts as a big-ass amplifier and since the speakers are not self-powered, maybe I just needed an amplifier, but the result is still the same.
That's when I wondered why the jack plug is TRRS, which is weird because it's just a set of stereo speakers (so there's no microphone channel or anything else), then I don't understand why there's an additional ring on the plug.
I saw that regarding TRRS, there are different wiring standards with ground and mic/video inverted, still, normally left channel should be wired to the tip and right channel to the first ring, is that correct?
Nevertheless, the fact that pulling the plug a little from the socket results in better sound makes me think that maybe the right channel is wired to the second ring and not the first one.
Is it possible that the wires are totally messed up?
Sometimes the source and the input do not do the same thing. For example an input and output into a single source will cancel both or prefer one over the other. Sorry I'm not able to help you more. I'm sure you'll figure it out. Good luck.
Great video! Thanks. Got a question please. Can I use a microphone with TS jack on a TRS-to-TRRS adaptor? Or is there a TS-to-TRRS adaptor I should use instead? Many thanks.
Great question. I made a second video where I explain that for you. ruclips.net/video/-5N2dw3RZrE/видео.html
Very informative video! But I'm struggling to find Y split into 2 mics. Wouldn't the splitter into mic and headphones work just as well?
Make sure the line up correctly.
What application you're using sir, for your cam?
Filmic Pro
Looks like a good thing to have if you use your phone for this. Nice video and information
I have purchased trs adapter but quality is not good. any solutions?
I have a link for you in the deacription area. Good luck.
what if you want to record audio FROM your phone into a pc audio card...will trrs to trs work for recording from the phone to the computer?
I've done that many times yes it works. Note there may be oth er factors involved including copyright programming or sofrware issues. Best of luck TD
will this work on headphones with a mic on an xbox
Depends. It may don't know for sure.
Can this adapter solve the problem that the standard camera app of my Huawei P10 doesn't recognize external microfones or do I still need OpenCamera?
I explain that too, because I had the same issue or similar problem with my zoom at 3:00
Do you have a solution for the Zoom H1N then. I am trying to figure out how to use the Zoom device as an external mic for my android phone. Thanks.
The zoom is particular, It is possible the zoom out may be a TS only making it unbalanced if using a TRS out and as a result wont work with your phone or other devices. However, if you pluged in the TRS to an amp it probably would work though unbalanced.
What app is that to check the sound??
Discouraged. I have the TRRS adapter, but not working on any apple product I own. Is there a specific app to use?
so not all DSLR shotgun mics would work on my Smartphone just because I have a TRS adapter because some devices just simply do not work?...
TRRS => TRS Audio + TRS Microphone
Thank You so much.....
Also AGPTEK M20 MP3 player only accepts TRS. I have TRRS earphones from Miniso and plugged intoTRS only function MP3 player and it doesn’t have any vocals on MP3 songs but instrumental.
The adapters for TRRS to TRS are usually less. Click the link above and search TRRS to TRS adapter. Best, Tommy
Thank you for the information, so clear so simple yet entertaining.
Tommy I have a question. I am using a Benro 3xs Lite Gimbal and im connecting a 3.5 TRRS Saramonic Mic to it.
Then from the gimbal clamp the 3.5 jack is a female TRRS, so what type of cable should I use? is it 3.5 TRRS cable both ways and connect it directly to my Android Phone?
example: Rode SC10 3.5 TRRS (should this work?)
Thanks!
Verify with the manual the Input and output of the Benro 3xs Lite Gimbal and use the corresponding cable to your phone. Phones use a TRRS. You should be able to find a corresponding cable on Amazon. Good luck TD
@@TommyDrone salamat 🙏🏽 im so grateful of your time and advice.
TRRS => TRS Microphone
can i use this for making phone calls on my podcast
Hi Pastor Servonte, for making phone calls, I recommend the Letscom Bluetooth headset they work great. Here's a video I made where I show them. ruclips.net/video/yjLG9WC7nUo/видео.html Best of luck, TD
can it work well for livestream djing?
what happens if my mic uses a trs to trs aux cord? if i buy a trrs to trrs cord will that work too?
Please rewatch the video. I explain that too.
Hi Tommy,
Great video. I just got a Boya BY- M1DM lavalier mic which has a TRRS connector. What I want to be able to do is to be able to hear the other person when I call them without using headphones. When I plug the Boya into the port, it shuts out the sound so I cannot hear anything. So I bought a mic/headphone splitter, but I seem to be having the same issues. Perhaps I have the wrong splitter? Many thanks Tim
The only way to talk and hear from the same port is with a TRRS line that does both headphone and Mic. But a splitter with seperate mic and headset won't work.
Explained very well, thanks.
For a minute there, thought you were going to have stereo.
So if I want TRRS to TRS convert how can I do?
Depends on the units you are working with. Some devices work and some don't. Good luck.
I'm trying to record songs using a mixer and laptop..but my laptop isn't recognizing the microphone! So will the trs to trrs adapter work? And where should I plugin my headphones for listing the karaoke and my vocals?
I don't think it will work. Good luck.
Hi mate iv bought a trr cable to go from my pioneer 800 mixer to my Sony 1 phone , could work because Sony has done away with the 3.5 jack,so I tried it on my laptop but both ways still sound very crackly and eccoy any ideas? Been going through something things keep getting same outcome
Vinny, My guess is the Mixer is not using phantom power. That's why it goes out to a amp. The Amp increases the output signal usually to speakers. In you case the weak signal goes to the computer and it's not heard. My guess is you need an Amp to increase the signal or an Amp that provides phantom power to the signal. Here's a video with a Camera Amp that explains that all in detail . ruclips.net/video/GLIArQLjCnM/видео.html (Please watch the first 8 minutes of the video as I explain phantom power in detail and what I show may help you and will also clarify what I'm saying here.) Best TD
@@TommyDrone thanks a lot mate il have a look at the video and have a look at amps ✌🏻🍻
I've only have a TRRS port in my Dell laptop. I have a set of headphones that has one TRS connector for the sound and one TRS for the microphone. I purchased a TRRS splitter cable that connects to the TRRS port and splits it into headphone and microphone TRS female connectors. When everything is plugged in, it works, but there is considerable background noise in the microphone input.
If I plug in the microphone to the TRRS port on it's own and identity it as a microphone on the PC, there is no background noise, so it's an issue with the cable. Are there better options out there?
Problem is you're using two different function TRS cables into a single function Splitter. The Splitter is set for two equal inputs or two equal outputs. Not one input and output. Consider instead using one TRS mic or one TRS Headset only. Or buy a single headset with a single TRRS wire that includes both the mic and heaadset, such as what you get when you buy headset with included Mic for a Smartphone. Good luck. TD
Thank you for the video! Super helpful :)
A very informative video. Since I already have a TRRS lavalier microphone so I tried to plug it into my laptop and smartphone
However, this still doesn't work. Do u know what is the reason this happens? Hope u can see this comment and thanks in advance.
I answer your question at 2:45 in this video.
Great video. Thanks
Can i plug this to my laptop and use it on my podcast as a phone line?
Note there are lots of factors to look at there. Good luck. TD

Any solution?
I had the same issue or similar problem with my zoom at 2:30
Tommy Drone Tech. New smartphone won't play audio to a car stereo using a TRS aux cable. Do I need a TRRS adapter? Old smartphone works fine.
Depends on the car input, Try a TS cord from a old mini CD player the try a TRS cable from the CD player. My bet is the car requires a TRS but it may be a TS too. Good luck.
@@TommyDrone Misunderstanding. Car already has a TRS aux cable and old smartphone plays just fine into it. But with new smart phone.... silence. And yet, the new smart phone plays into TRS headphones just fine.

I’m using an adapter on my iphone 11 pro max and my earphones with mic is a trrs with three lines and it doesnt allow me to record thru it. Why is that? Does that mean my adapter is trs?

The zoom has its own pre amp and your phone maybe rejecting the ZOOMs gain.
Try turning your phones volume down as far as you can go without turning off the volume completely and use the Zooms volume.
There is a thing called "gain staging" and this MAY be the problem. Some devices default to their own controls in order not to ruin the device.
✌️
Excellent advice!
Is the camera (recorder) an app or you used the phone camera?
Please watch the video again. I do explain all that. It goes by fast.
What happened to me earlier was, I use a trs to trrs adapter for my new rode videomicro, and my phone didn't recognize the microphone, there was no audio, so I try by not using the trrs adapter, it suddenly work, same thing happens to my iphone. @@TommyDrone I was baffled at first and thought that I got a non functioning item because all the videos in YT says I need to use a trs to trrs adapter. Now everything is fine, but I'm not quite sure now on what to do with my trs to trrs adapter.
I bought a TRS-TRRS cable and also picked up a TRRS adapter to try on my TRS cables. The cable worked flawlessly from my audio recorder and external mics into phone and computer. I then tried the adapter and zero audio at all. I'm glad I tried it within the return window. Going to get a refund on that TRRS adapter, maybe the adapter was bad?
There are many factors possible. I find it hard to believe it's the adapter. For example I explain this starting at 2:30 Please watch that section again and see if my be the electronics vs the TRS inputs and outputs you are adapting to. Good luck TD
