Kuma is japanese for Bear, and I'm pretty sure Digimon World 3 came out before it showed up in an english-translated anime. Probably why. Even more confusing when you realize there was a digimon in Season 4 that they localized as Kumamon(Chackmon in japan).
I already knew that they're called Bearmon in future English releases, but I'm still calling it Kumamon because DMW3 was my childhood game. Plus, Kumamon just sounds cooler imo..
@@imranzaidi1486 Yeah... they ran into an issue since Kumamon is the localized name of Chackmon, the Human Spirit if Ice. Due to the fact that Kumamon was used in Digimon World 3 and then months later in the same year, Kumamon was used in Digimon Frontier... they had to choose between them and Frontier won. Then they made him Bearmon in English. I guess they though, Chackmon was a stretch. It comes from Chakuhyou, which means Ice Accretion in JP. Ice Accretion is how layers of ice form on objects in cold weather. They couldn't come up with anything to translate, so they came up with Kumamon... its unfortunate since the game localization and the anime localization most likely worked on the project at the same time and nothing was shared between the teams since it seemed like a non problem.
In other countries (including Japan) "soccer" is known as "FOOTball". So Footmon is a double reference, not just what body part is used, but the name of the sport. (For those who don't know what we call "football" is known as "American Football")

Just wanted to say I've been really loving these as a huge Digimon fan(got every point!)! I'm definitely going to check out the Pokemon vids next. Soulmon is definitely a meme, but Nico was half-right in a way. Witchmon IS an actual Digimon and the lore behind Soulmon is literally that it absorbed "mage data" from a game and became a mage! I'd love to see some more newer Digimon from the Adventure 2020-Ghost Game era. Naming conventions in Digimon are pretty inconsistent and so is a lot of the localization/translation
5:45 to be fair, since canonically only a few digimon have an devolution line made especifically for them and almost any digimon can evolve into any other digimon given the right circunstances, you could say that all digimons are related to each other
I still feel troubled and sad that Footmon of all Figimon doesn't have a proper appearance on any product appart from the TCG. And the sad thing is that Footmon is a winning of an original Digimon contest, it was made by fans and became canon.
Here's an evil suggestion... do the Black Agumon line. Maybe even include the two bonus Omnimon Evolutions. BlackAgumon, Agumon (Black), Agumon Darkness Mode, Agumon (Virus) etc.
As a fan of both, I am glad to share some info on these guys. Footmon - Football and was from a children design contest made official. Hookmon - legit a Peter Pan reference. It evolves into CaptainHookmon and forms a core team with Tinkermon and Petermon. Funny that Captainhookmon is the gOod guy of the trio. Petermon wants to take baby Digimon to a land where they can never evolve. Bearmon is Bearmon and Bearmon is a Bear. Mushroomon is Mushroomon and Mushroomon is a Mushroom. It was also called Mushmon Bakemon is a pun off the word Bakemono which is the japanese word for ghost or monster. Soulmon was made as a alt color for Bakemon. It references another Vpet that has to do with magical girls. They actually then made a series of digimon based upon it like Wizardmon.
One of the things Ghost Game did right is following the lore of the antagonists REALLY well. Petermon in that episode was doing that exactly. It takes the idea of Peter Pan and makes you think... this would be TERRIFYING in real life. CaptainHookmon coming in at the end and being the adult that Petermon could trust is just the cherry on top. Wish Tinkermon was there too just for the trio.

Drawfee had a great episode with Digimon that involved Bakemon and Soulmon. Karina loves Digimon, YuGiOh, etc. And none of the other Drawfee crew know very much at all about Digimon besides Karina herself. The context is funnier in the video, and the episode I think was one where they drew Digimon they have never seen before based on their name. Karina gave someone Soulmon and gave the context that they Digivolve from Bakemon. But the setup throughout the video makes it sooo funny.

Japan does not call it football, they call it "サッカー" (sakkā). Also, it's not just the U.S. that calls it that. The term "soccer" originated at Oxford University (you know, in England?) and is the primary name for the sport in Canada, Australia, New Zealand (though "football" has come into more common usage in NZ over the last 20 years), South Africa, most of Ireland, and a good chunk of East Asia.
