It looks good first but it's worse the more you look at it. The problem is Unreal "slap on and go" is easy but leaves poor results. For example the water is just a big pastel blob here.
The cart and grass in the starting looks awesome, as well as the lighting at nights. But generally it's really off from WoW's artstyle. To do a proper work it has to be modified by hand in each zone which is a lot of work and they probably won't do. Cause they would have to redo light sources in every corner of world.

The Druid in Diablo 5 is going to have to be slimmer now.
Apparently their idea is to use torches for these darker zones as they have a new survival profession
Lanterns too! You can make a lantern with survival, or temporary torches. It's pretty awesome. There's a darker nights patch you can play with on turtle right now and I love it.
This is awesome because that profession was taken out from original wow before release!!

This is what Classic+ should've been.. no 30+ retail abilities jammed into Vanilla. Small class tweaks to make niche specs playable. Not this abomination that is SoD where players are doing DPS equivalent of naxx geared warriors at lvl 50
Yup, also slow leveling. Leveling on SoD feels like retail, you rush through things, don't get immersed. Quit for classic Era, way more fun. Even cata classic is far better than combining the worst of retail and classic..
It's what people always said they wanted from Classic+. New zones, new raid and dungeons, perhaps new items that are on par with existing items and minor changes to classes that are unplayable (rets, boomies, spriest, ele shaman, etc). No one asked for fucking tank rogues and warlocks and classes having access to WoTLK level talents.
Classes were the only thing about Vanilla that did NOT need to change. We wanted a new adventure not a bunch of random new buttons to learn 😭😭😭😭

All they had to do is add a few zones in unfinished regions, a handfull of dungeons, some more recipes and make sure they tie into the progression and don't make other things obsolete. For example I think there is no dungeon between monastary and mauradon with proper caster loot, while there is an overabundance of warrior gear. A new dungeon in the 40s range would be perfect. Some more endgame zones, such as Hyjal and so on...
Maybe a 3 man dungeon in between? Or a solo dungeon? Why does it always have to be 5 players? In classic they played around with group sizes, for example ubs is 10 man and lbs supposed to be 5 man. We have 10 man raids, 20 man raids and 40 man raids. It would fit in perfectly. Maybe go crazy and add in an 80 man raid lol. As long as it's not disruptive to the overall gameplay and fits into the lore they can try many things.
What did we get? Cata classic classes on the vanilla map with retail game design. Thanks for combining the 3 worst things of each era Blizzard.

Yep, Dave did a lot of the early map work in WoW back when they used the WC3 engine.
I bet some of the W3 and WoW Vanilla devs are playing on Turtle and even supporting them. I wouldn't even be surprised if they are in the team and actively develop content there.
@@CatDad09 To clarify, I didn't do any map work for WoW, only War II BNE, Starcraft 64, Starcraft TMOTM, Warcraft III and TFT. I did early quest design and quest writing for WoW across some 40 quests that were released with the first iteration of the game. My interest in Turtle WoW sparked for nostalgia to go over that old work, and it was pretty much my only option to play it as it was back then.
And here we are, voicing a trailer for them and playing everyday. ;)

I am fairly certain turtle also keeps everything super secret, so the core can't be easily taken down.
The core should fit in the realm of being legal, so long as it isn’t based off of a copy of the blizzard code.
The client is also entirely legal, only the assets being used are illegal.
I remember me playing Pokemon MMO and Nintendo couldn’t sue them because it requires you to have a copy of the original game. Couldn’t the private servers do the same to make it legal?

I would def get on it I played before sod and the major content update now we have Emerald Sanctum(40man) and Lower kara halls (10man) and in the future we have Grimbatol and Upper Kara halls coming
I think alot of streamers who played on private servers before, are also playing on turtle wow right now. Esfand, Staysafe, Asmongold, Payo etc.. But they're not allowed to indorse or talk about that in anyway, cause they risk losing the ability to stream and their contract with blizzard.

This is by far the best version of Vanilla wow that has been created. We have added zones, quests, dungeons, raids, mobs, professions, reworked talents, added class/race combos, new races. Literally EVERYTHING you want out of a true Vanilla +, in the same vein as OSRS, Turtle wow is it!
I quit at the beginning of Dragonflight and wrath classic and havent looked back since.
It’s a shame the class changes are so minor and unimpactful overall it just feels like vanilla classes.
@@CatDad09 Yeah they could've spiced it up more for sure, some qol changes but nothing too crazy, were getting new abilities next patch tho, i main a shaman and were getting an ability called lightning strike that does damage and procs an "upgraded" affect of whatever shield im using, im hoping it will allow me to use lightning shield to dps

When a private server does a better job does than that actual company? Yeah. That's a huge problem. LOL
I used to be an admin on Dominon WoW (later Dominon Xtreme Gaming) the type of stuff you see now was a freaking pipe dream for us back in 2009. I am completely jaw dropped at this showcase. We contributed significant amounts of code to the emulator being used (I think it was called Trinity?) this is so cool. Blizzard needs to chll on going after private servers; they charge for their game and people should be allowed to use their property in any way they see fit.

While impressive, I think sometimes these lighting upgrades seem to try too hard to make insane contrast. Take for instance at 4:25. The underside of that tree should not be pitch black. It's the middle of a bright sunny day. While the leaves provide shade, it doesn't shield from all light. Light bounces off the ground and from other directions. It should be dimmer yes, but not pitch black.
That's because original vanilla assets like that tree used "tricks" to make the models appear better than what they actually are and that was also a part of the rendering engine. Since modern mode is using UE's PBR rendering that doesn't have these built-in, it doesn't look that good. Assets like this that don't fit will either be re-modeled to fit modern or there will be custom tweaks to modern rendering to fir these old assets.
Also, keep in mind from the perspective of where the camera is looking at that tree it could be pitch black, considering the sun will be directly in your characters eyes. If you were physically under the tree, it would not be pitch black. But from the perspective of standing in the broad sunlight, looking into a shaded area, it could very well be realistically pitch black. There are real life examples of that all over the place every day if you are used to working outside in the sun.

I am very interested to play this . Hopefully Blizzard takes notes and maybe not only improve the grafics but also expand the classic story on all the places they didnt finish . Because so much of it got scratched at the launch in 04/05 (05 was the launch in europe) . I hope that one day they will implement them into the game . Turtle wow finishes all the places that blizzard didn’t. Karazhan crypts is a playable dungeon, caverns of time dungeon, gilneas zone and dungeon located south of silverpine forest. And they’re releasing Karazhan raid (tier 3.5) by the end of summer, followed by Grim Batol (tier 4) raid in 2025.

Here's the thing: This is hosted in the UK. How the legality works is 1.12.1 is considered an abandoned version of the game because there's no active development going on for that specific version (Classic is different from Vanilla). On top of that, given the + content is fan made, it's also considered transformative work as the content is not available in the base game (1.12 or Classic). So to address concerns, this server is not being taken down anytime soon.
This is why SWG is still a thing as a private server, warmane has been around for almost 20 years now, and even City of Heroes is still about and kicking. All considered transformative work or abandoned works. Nostalrius was brought down for both using the original source code + it being hosted in the US where the fair use/abandon ware laws are different.

I doubt everything you just said. WoW is legally protected by trademark and copyright. Turtle is very illegal.

Looks good, very impressive. I can't say I am the biggest fan of the "plastic" look I see Unreal sometimes looks like, but that one small criticism aside ''yeah". I also especially love the dark Duskwood.

No there isnt, 500 ppls on pvp Vs 5000 on pve. Which means pvp serv is kinda dead from the start. But you have war glyph on pve serv.

I've said this for awhile blizzard should just open community servers for people to host kinda like minecraft or ARK or any of those games and just let people host theyre own servers aslong as they pay the sub fee, than blizzard has to do 0 work makes money and everyone is happy.

Has anyone looked into Ascension's CoA 21 new classes thing for wow?
I have, after playing it on and off for the last few years on the wildcard and free pick servers, I'm betting ascensions COA will feel just like retail. They have chosen the superpowered player route, the wildcard mode people are doing upwards of 50k dps a lvl 60. ridiculous skills and combos that fit the new COA classes themes. I suspect it will carry over to the COA classes and be ridiculous.
Its getting pretty solid tbh, id recommend it now
all of the Private servers out there are great, some make a redesign like turtle wow, others make complete new areas/dungeons/raids, and there is ascension who is basicly the reason Season of Discovery exists XD

Ive played turtlewow for a while. It still astound me how a private server is so much better than blizz themselves.
We live in the timeline where the good games are illegal and the cringe games for the "modern audience" are mainstream
It kills me that these talented and dedicated groups do this in ways that can easily be shut down at the whim of a giant corp.
Interesting, they had to make their own client for this. That moves it further into the realm of being legal, as the servers are legal to operate meanwhile the cracked clients have always been illegal. The only thing blizzard has left to sue over are the assets.
Blizzard doesn't like private servers because those servers put out just as good as content as they do
Turtle wow is a good server. They keep adding new content and is free to play.
Finally I can put my water cooled PC with RTX 4060 to a test. This server will be a blast!
The urge for a good version of classic plus Is strong, unfortunately I just don’t think that’s what sod is atm.
Im not certain how far tech has come to support these graphics. I do know that wow was always popular due to its accessibility. If modern average gaming tech can handle it and data connections, it would be nice to update graphics in wow but not at the expense of everything else.

As someone who played on Elysium/Light's Hope in the years before Classic, it's incredible what the private server community has been cooking lately.
You know, I'm going to be honest. Even though there's a TOS Against private servers and whatnot, I genuinely don't think Blizzard ACTUALLY cares that much. If you were a private server person, and was able to switch to live servers, and be invited to blizzcons. I think it's clear that the notion of them caring about it is slim, as long as you aren't directly promoting it I suppose, to flock players over to private servers. I can probably bet that some employees at Blizzard probably play Turtle WoW, and take inspiration with certain things.

Feels good to know that a pserver that is RP centric is doing the best among the pserver community and putting Blizz to shame.

Turtle wow has been around for 6 years allready and the server is allready insane right now. Its literally what Blizzard should have make Classic+ to be. They've added 1700+ new quests, new zones (including Mount Hyjal a lvl 60 endgame zone), new raids, new dungeons, new loots, two new proffessions Survival and Gardening (Jewelcrafting coming in next patch), High elves and Goblins (with their own starting zones), class balancing so boomkins and paladins are more viable as an example, new music to the new zones and areas and so on. Its literally insane what they have done and its on par with Blizzard quality. Next patch they are doing tier 3.5 with a new raid that will be harder than Naxxramas, each class and spec will have new tier sets. If you are like me and love the lvling aspect of Classic wow but quit at lvl 60 because it feels like you are basically ''done'', Turtle wow is gonna be perfect for you. So much more content at endgame on this server and you feel like there is a reason to continue because they are adding new endgame content for future patches

Honestly, this is a version of wow that I would be willing to pay money to play as long as it’s the classic versions and not retail. Unless they do that I don’t plan on ever paying for wow again
I love in current wow versions just chillin in the world when im watching youtube or am AFK. and I can see myself LOVING the more atmospheric look of UE5 WoW having the world feel thicker and more lush. im soooo about it.

I played a lot of nostalrius/kronos and lightshope. Sod was fun at the start but man p3 rlly killed it for me. I downloaded turtle wow like a week ago. Seems pretty sick with everything that's been added

Please do not suggest it's illegal, it's not, for a streamer to show it it would fall under fair use, and aslong as Turtle Wow doesn't ask money in 98% of the countries on this planet, they would not be breaking copyright laws. It's just to much of a hassle and you would be destroyed in legal costs. Just because you got cucked by Blizzard and they will pull whatever deal you have with them, does not mean it's illegal.

SoD is basically retail at this point, it's like the devs have no clue why vanilla was a timeless classic. I trust a private server dev team way more than Blizz at this point to deliver Classic+ in a way that reflects true vanilla.

I think instead of pursuing a law suit blizzard should enter a partnership with this. It'd be very lucrative, and youd have passionate people developing something that would be of mutual benefit. Just my take. Like, just integrate it like OSRS did with Runelite. Like, an either or server that runs alongside actual vanilla.
Microsoft should just buy it and release it as a proper update.

I quit SoD in Phase 1, i did start lvling on Turtle WoW recently cuz seems like its way better developed than SoD is.
4:17 We already went through this over two decades ago before wow with ultima online. They decided private servers are fine if they aren't charging subs. Since then EA never pursued private servers. The most popular method to play ultima online right now is the liveliest and most custom server there ever was called Outlands.
Well, TWoW accepts "donations" so that's that. Pretty sure the reason they can't get them to shut down the server is because the server is located in Russia or something. ( Not sure about the exact location rn. ) But they definently tried to shut it down.
Outlands is absolutely nuts, there will surely be a WoW server that will customize the core game in a way outlands does and make it a better version of itself.
No it’s not about private servers, it’s about Blizzard and active IP it’s a very different situation. I went through this entire debacle like 7 years ago and learned very thing I could about it lol
