    - There is a studio in LA that you wanted to record in.
    - It was booked one year, Metallica was recording.
    - So you just bought it..?
    - Yes!

    Yoshiki: Why not?

      after seeing many interviews of him I don't think that was ego. He is a perfectionist and that studio may have been the only one with the equipment he needed.

    I get sad seeing this video for the first time after just watching X Japan live in Madison Square Garden, NY. The show was wonderful and the renewed hope that X would spread to American popularity was nice, but when will they strike with a new album (new material)? I've been showing people Kurenai, Dahlia, Tears, and Art of Life for 14 years and only a small percent of the people I showed went on to become fans. The few fans I've met who already knew X Japan before I met them were enthusiastically in love with the band's music, so there is an opportunity for X Japan to become a nationwide cult classic where a select group of people worships them, but will such complicatedly beautiful music appeal to the average American, who probably listens to Katy Perry and Ariana Grande? I doubt it, but I would be happy just getting to hear the music they would make while trying to attempt that kind of popularity. And if a group could somehow expose a new generation of Americans to substantial music, that miracle would be a task worth doing. Based on the quality of Jade and what I saw in New York last weekend, I believe they've still got what it takes to captivate new audiences who aren't already fans. I hope they think of a way to get the exposure necessary and commit the time required to gain exposure.

      X are just not trying hard enough. It's the 10th year since they reunited and 2 years since your comment and still no new album that Yoshiki has promised every single year. In terms of getting exposure, I think X having their own official RUclips channel filled with their old music videos and live videos would help a lot. And by also making their music more available outside Japan, both in record stores and online streaming services. They should also try to get a slot at every major rock/metal festival in the US and Europe. Playing at festivals is a good way of getting a band's name recognised. Babymetal (Japanese idol group) have done exactly that and they are getting more big in the West in just a few years than X has in almost 30 years.

    It's kind of lame that they didnt address the fact that X-Japan has been around for a very long time, and has a lot of history. Then again, what more can we expect from a tiny surface-level news story on a major news network. They do this little news story as if its some kind of quirky thing, but X-Japan has more talent than most of the garbage going on in America right now. And they just had to throw in the part about Yoshiki being inspired by KISS. X-Japan owns KISS anyday.

  • @breadandjam1
    @breadandjam1 13 лет назад +5

    Kind of sad they didn't go more into the history of X to be honest...
    Personally I don't think Yoshiki is 'the face of X' for me only one person can fill that role - hide.
    Yoshiki is such a superstar in his own right- but the thing that makes X Japan so special is that it couldnt happen without all of them! Without Toshi it wouldn't be X, without Pata and Heath its not X, without Yoshiki its not X... and thats why I'm so nervous about thier new stuff... Because without hide is it still X?

  • @ThePollymolly
    @ThePollymolly 12 лет назад +5

    Well Yoshiki owned the 2012 golden globes with his theme music, which is a much better way to showcase his talents which up until now may have been wasted in America. He's that rare kind, the Asian Mozart!

    Not a bad report to introduce American audiences to 0.05% of X Japan, despite not touching on their long eventful history and the many things that make them the icons they are today. But realistically, the report is only trying to introduce them and to give a lot more back story, etc would probably not be appropriate for this context.
    I just hope that they can make new fans who will learn more about the band, its history and legacy.

    I found out about X Japan back when they were still just X, and hadn't even come out with their BLUE BLOOD album yet. 1988. I still remember seeing their cameo in the little-seen-and-never-on-DVD movie TOKYO POP, from that year. The BLUE BLOOD album dropped the next year, and I pretty much wore out my imported cassette tape of it. I later got copies of their indie EP VANISHING VISION (with an album cover that would NEVER fly in the USA) and their 1991 opus JEALOUSY, and I was ready for them to break in the USA way back then....but it never happened. Then 1997 happened, and...well. Then the band got back together, and this USA thing seemed promising....but it still hasn't really happened. But we still have the great music they DID do. A new album would be great, though. I just hope they don't wait too long.

    @bluepandaman Well, they did say that they were bigger than Bruce Springsteen, the Beatles, and the Rollingstones combined.... That's a pretty huge statement in itself, I think. And the KISS thing only helps, really, cuz that's part of their target audience right there. Most Americans will probably need that kind of information to spark even any curiosity. 'Course, playing Lollapalooza doesn't hurt, either. :)

    As everyone else is saying, X has been around as long as many of the American glam and metal scenes. So much history. This wouldn't be the first time jrock or visual Kei bands would try in the US either. VAMPS tried an invasion by jumping on warped tour not too long ago, versailles has played a few shows, and im sure many others have been.
    In the long run, what i'm trying to say is, if any artist can bring Jrock into america, It will be X.

    Thanks to bands like Yoshiki, Japanese artists are loved here in America....and I would bet ANY Japanese band or performer would make a damned good showing here in America. Hyde and Arc en Ciel has already claimed Madison Square Garden, Gackt has already toured parts and made a showing in American movies...come one Japan...give us MORE great talent to enjoy(since what WE have here really SUX)
