Few things, Ferrari no longer make either Lusso, so there's no option to buy a new one, as for having one for the kids, I've had my kids in both an FF and a Lusso (T) - I'll come on to that - and there are few spec items that are important to consider. 1. don't get passenger display, they will ride in the front, they will annoy the shit out of you playing with it. 2. don't get one with the upgraded sound, it take up a bunch of the boot which you're going to need for other kid-related stuf. 3. the cupholder covers are easily broken by a child in 10 seconds, give up on them. 4. the seat fold mechanisim doesn't work properly at all. the seats are constantly folding back on me as I try and get a kid into the car. 5. get dark carpets, carpeted sills and no alcantara. 6. The exhaust valves open right around UK motorway cruising speed, they will get annoying because the car goes from peaceful to wake up wife and children just because you reach a slight incline (see DMS below). Now to the LussoT, I know it got a bashing when it launched but.... - I've had an FF which I did 20k miles in and a LussoT which has done over 10K and I've done over 1k miles in a V12 Lusso, I've also spent a day at Millbrook in all three and dynamically the best car is the FF (it's also more stable at speed, the Lusso *can* do 208 mph, but it gets so light at over 175mph that you really wouldn't want to) but they sort of gave up after the engine and transmission, so as a thing to live with the lusso's are better. Of the two Lussos the T is the much, much better car, it doesn't sound better granted, but it's noticeably lighter and benefits from springs which are about 10% stiffer as well as more torque, especially low down where the V12 hasn't got going. It's real party trick though is in remembering it has a revvy engine which is basically a detuned Pista engine, it wants to be doing 4000+ rpm not 2000, ideally with the tail out. It therfore lends itself well to tuning, DMS do an amazing tune package for it which takes it to 700Bhp and over 850Nm which is more in evey way than the V12 can do and they adapt the manettino settings to allow the additional power and noise to be controllable. The V12 sounds great, but it's more fast mercedes than fast ferrari and it lacks the Jekyll and Hyde nature of the T. The T is also rare (probably because of getting a bashing) it's the rarest series Ferrari in the UK in a good 25 years, with only 90 sold. that's only a couple more than there are TDFs.
I cannot tell the difference in boot space between a Lusso with and without hifi. I have it, and I've seen cars without. Same boot. When you fold your seats forward, just let the kids push it forwad as they step in. When I have passengers there, I have zero issues. It looks bad without passenger display. The area looks like something's missing
@@AB-80X The Hifi takes out the space inside the wing on the left for the subwoofer. if you fill the car up - which I do if we go on trips it's annoying. its a £250k car, I expect them to have figured out folding seats. without the passenger display it does look a bit crap, I think that's a punishment from Ferrari for not having it. But I don't care because it's a silly gimmick for a ludicrous amount of money.
@@AB-80X The seat thing - it works fine on perfectly flat ground, but the slightest slope makes it fold back on it's own, and my kids are small, not quite at the pushing the seat, or stepping in age yet. especially when the motors are pushing back against them.

Great series, we’re in the same situation so we’re really looking forward to it. But we’d appreciate if you show and rate all of the things that really make these ”practical” as family cars: clearance, boot space (do a push chair fit?), isofix, seat positions with a baby seat, etc.!
That GTC4Lusso would be outstanding for a family of three! As one alternative option to consider, while also substantially less money, the Giulia Quadrifoglio is quite an exciting 4 door for around a mere 80k US

This is not the most practical daily. However it would be super fun in comparison to the other offerings with that V12 when you want to play a little bit.
I know its a British love but I have still not found the appreciation for these. Besides the incredible engine and sound that is. Can't wait to see the Porsche and Aston Martin you look at. ;)
The Lusso is a better looking car than the old FF. I think a 4 door is more practical for daily driver, particularly if you're carrying a baby seat. It would be hard to put up with trying to get the carrier into the car around the front seat.
James, I don't know yet which Aston Martin you're planning to consider. My daily driver for this purpose of moving kids from kindergarten to home to football to kid's karate is an 2018 Aston Martin Rapide S, which is superb. Slightly smaller engine, but V12 with an amzing soundtrack (but not as aggressive as my V12 Vantage S or a Vanquish S) and additional doors, which is very helpfull to sit in my 19 months old daughter into her rear facing seat. I can imagine that it is pretty difficult to do this in a GTC4 Lusso. Think this over. I love my Rapide S. It was build till last year. But you do know that for sure an you have best relationships to Gaydon - so try it!
Hi. You should try the Audi RS6-R from ABT (740 hp, 920 Nm) ... if possible. ABT has managed to make the design even more aggressive ... the sound of the exhaust is louder. It is one of the coolest family cars. GT4Lusso is much more exotic, but less practical and much more expensive. I think the engine is worth any money ... if you have it. The V12 is unique ... and will remain unique. Used can be a good option, if you care more about the feeling behind the wheel. Because I never wrote on the channel, congratulations ... you are one of the best youtubers. Good luck.
Thats a tough choice, because there are so many absolutely great cars in that class.. new e63s(wagon), new m5, maybe rs6 although it understeers. I would probably also consider the taycan turbo s. Its just something different, fast as hell, a nice daily, clean, beautiful and a practical 4 door. The gtc of course has that amazing v12 and gearbox, but pretty bad infotainment tech, 2 doors (or does it have 4?) and less trunk space than an e63s wagon for example. All cars in that class are great.
So you tested the back seat...what about the boot? Will it cope with associated kiddy gear? Will it’s fuel tank location mean a need for specialised origami pram? Will the boot lining survive non Ferrari luggage - recall Chris Harris had a mountain bike in the back of a previous incarnation (FF) think it’s somewhere on RUclips? With kid and their non negotiable accessories mean one of the back seats is always folded down - so really a 3 seater? You may have done this off camera...End random thoughts! Oh check out Harry’s Garage channel - believe Harry loaded one up (4 Adults in a FF) and drove to a France (ski trip).
Mr JWW- great video. I’m looking at buying a 2017 Porsche Cayenne S, 21 inch rims, yet it does not have PASM. Do you know if the ride will be bad without PASM?
When the GTC4LUSSO came out I hated it and I thought it was useless and overpriced , now I love it, it looks soooooo good , Tbh this is probably the the best daily you could ever want
In these times of Corona Virus with restricted movement and all the other limitations that come with a global pandemic, a vehicle that is quite often overlooked in terms of its all round performance and spacious interior, also it's economical properties as well as its aesthetic appeal is the Traveller's favourite...the good old Ford Transit Van. The Crew Cab option with its Isofix capabilities and added seating options is often overlooked. Having the tow bar fitted also give the opportunity to hitch-up the caravan of a Friday evening and hit the local Aldi's to stock up on their selection of reasonably price foreign wines and refreshing beers and lagers, as well as their vast range of competively priced ready made meal dishes before heading off on another weekend adventure with your significant other. Given that Aldi's also stock a very nice range of ciders for the lady in your life, you my friend have knocked it off, as the policeman said to the shoplifter.
Never liked the FF, as you said the GTC4L feels like a new model rather than a renamed facelift - very colour and spec sensitive however. Others - S63 coupe Panamera Sport turismo turbo s e-hybrid or very left field - Alpina B7 Cheers, Chris
Continental GT I think is on Sam's wishlist! Wish Masarati had a little fresher line-up than they do now. I always fancied the Gran Cabrio MC. Maybe a nice 2nd hand deal to be had on that.
It wouldn't hold a candle next to the Lusso in terms of raw excitement but Porsche Panamera Turbo Sport Turismo?? Top Gear pitted the two together in a nice piece a few seasons ago. Would be interesting to see your comparison. Love the channel. Stay safe 🙌🏽

James, the search is over. It doesnt get any better than this
Ever consider a m5?
This is the kind of videos I love!! Keep it up. Greetings from Spain!!
Will you buy shmee150 4lusso?
Why don't you exchange both of your Ferraries?
I’m in the 2020 m5 comp and am looking to make a switch. Do you suggest this as the daily?
omaze = automatic 60second skip
This would be my pick for sure. The only car beside GTC4 I would look for would be Aston Martin shooting brake Zagato haha.
James, you don't need to consider any others. This is it!
Mr JWW- great video. I’m looking at buying a 2017 Porsche Cayenne S, 21 inch rims, yet it does not have PASM. Do you know if the ride will be bad without PASM?
The 21” rims will effect the ride more than the lack of PASM - pasm is more for stability management than ride comfort 👍🏻
0:25 love that music!!!!
Name of the artist?... Or song please...?
Idk
When the GTC4LUSSO came out I hated it and I thought it was useless and overpriced , now I love it, it looks soooooo good ,
Tbh this is probably the the best daily you could ever want
Wow that V12 Sound!
M5 (GPOWER tune), RS6 (wheelsandmore tune), AMG E63s, AMG GT63s/73, Porsche Taycan/Cross turismo, Porsche 992 911 turbo s, Aston DBS superlegerra?
I think the Bentley Continental would suit you great James!
b is for bumpy Britain. noice. Great Colour Combo.
I used to think of James as the McLaren guy. Now I associate him with Ferrari V12s 😅
Most likely aston martin now 😂
Never liked the FF, as you said the GTC4L feels like a new model rather than a renamed facelift - very colour and spec sensitive however.
Others -
S63 coupe
Panamera Sport turismo turbo s e-hybrid
or very left field - Alpina B7
Cheers,
Chris
Alpina never a car I’ve tried and some of their new models are quite appealing
Continental GT I think is on Sam's wishlist!
Wish Masarati had a little fresher line-up than they do now. I always fancied the Gran Cabrio MC. Maybe a nice 2nd hand deal to be had on that.
I am amazed Maserati hasn’t refreshed yet - Conti GT video coming soon!
@@MrJWW Sweet! Appreciating all the (soft) lockdown content y'all putting out for us. (^^,)
That would be an amazing car for you!
@shmee150 is selling his !
Andrew Kindness he is not
@@andrewkindness6503 Where did he say that?? He only said what could EVENTUALLY replace it...
Silly Andrew
I really like the lusso but it's too big to hustle on a b road. Go try a turbo s. Fits a 7 year old in the back no problem.
Well in the realm of depreciating car would something like the RR Wrath be of interest in particular the black badge?
Try the S65 final edition if you get chance. perfect car for daily and for family.
JWW... WHAT ABOUT THE M8 GC!!!
Not v12 , better drive a m5 cs instead of m8
A really nice ferrari and one to use daily as opposed to a garage queen. Get secondhand though, to save on the depreciation
You hit the nail on iTs head with this one , dont even look any further i would say
Watched a video of this getting destroyed by an m5/m8 in the quarter mile. Was slightly surprised I must say
Can’t beat turbos for the big punch!
@@MrJWW very true
Ya this car is not impressive if you just look 0-60 and 1/4 mule. However at higher speeds and on the twists it is faster then almost anything with 4 seats
@freddie Jones if it was the carwow video you are referring to it was an FF. Arguably very similar, but the Gtc4 may have faired better. 🤷♂️
@@hirsty9159 no it was this one vs M8 and older tuned GTR. It did incredibly well for a car that is class above BMW M8. This is far better "drivers car" than Continental GT or DB11 😉
Mercedes GT - 4 door is the newest thing on the block.......would love to know your thoughts on it as a daily🤔🤔
The lusso is by far the best daily you could buy, well until the egg arrives.
RsQ8 or Urus or G60
F90 M5 Competition, for me that's the ultimate daily
