COD Zombies was legendary. Not going to lie it introduced me to Call of Duty and warmed me up to trying zombies (was a big baby back in the day too scared to dip my toe into horror)

Honestly I want to see more games with Zombies as a playable character.
There was a game called stubbs the zombie or something like that.
I remember watching an analysis video on the infected and how the virus can force push its victims eye socket and make them use echo location those clickers were terrifying 😢
Zombies in videogames have different varieties:
Days Gone have a Zombie inspired by a Plant giving the virus to people.
Last of Us has a Virus that effects people inspired by a disease that kills insects it is terrifying to say the least.
Dying Light has the Harran Virus mix of different variants and the terrifying Voliaties in Night Time.
Minecraft has regular Zombies and Zombie Pigmen.
Last of Us zombies I wouldn't call a disease. It's a mold infection. A bit different than a disease.
Also aren't the zombies in Dying Light essentially just a modified rabies virus ? I could have sworn that the doctor at the start says something like that.
I don't know anything about Days Gone but basically the Resident Evil T Virus came originally from a plant too.
Minecraft also has other Zombie variants.
There definitely have been a lot of interesting twists done to the classic zombie archetype over the years.

I really love Rezzie, Telltale's The Walking Dead, Dead Rising, TLOU, and Dead Space but this really gave me the urge to devour flesh.

I knew exactly when you would mention my top 5 favorite game series: Call of Duty. I like it because of zombies, which like other people, disappoints me because now zombies is bad.
When things get popular they turn into crap.

Zombies are honestly really cool, i miss the old days when they were actually scary and gave nightmares, nowadays they are kinda lame, but hey, at least the games are really fun, especially left 4 dead

He acted like the DEAD in Red Dead Redemption is the part about zombies, and doesn't even mention the undead nightmare part that's ACTUALLY about zombies!
Great video! I love how you touched on most of the history of zombie games! I only wish you would have mentioned Land of the Dead: Road to Fiddlers Green! It's a crappy game. Didn't get great reviews, but it was a tie in with a Romero movie and the multiplayer was the first version of a survival zombie mode we ever had in a game. It completely predated both Left 4 Dead and Call of Duty Zombies. In fact, these games were inspired by Land of the Dead. It was really the first FPS zombie shooter. The multiplayer even had something of a versus mode on certain maps where if you died you would become a zombie and have to hunt remaining players. It is seriously underrated. But you're right that Resident Evil and House of the Dead pretty much started the zombie craze.

Gonna nitpick here. You say technically the infected in The Last of Us aren't zombies but then called The Ganados in Re4 zombies. I would argue that the Ganados are less zombies than the infected in TLoU. They are both interesting twists on the regular zombies but I would argue that the Ganados technically aren't zombies as they aren't really dead.
Yeah, Ganados and the Infected are both in that zombie-adjacent category.

Dying Light deserves more recognition the game was one of the most fun games I've played the DLC was good to! I gotta play it again.

What I don't really get is how music and 3d platformers games kind of died out as a result of oversaturation, but zombie games and shooters are waaaaay more saturated as genres yet they still keep going.

Zombies are definitely what makes video games so fun to begin with. It just how much fun it is to kill them. Resident Evil and the rest of the zombie franchise games have inspired so many countless future developers over the years.
They are not that fun, they barely give you any challenge. They just walk up to you verrry slowly and you shot them and they are dead.

I feel like cod zombies were like if you take the large arsenal of cod and mix it with the emotion filled characters of l4d. Truly a unbreakable classic. And still is good today (and the sequel like cold war too)
The best zombie in video games is from minecraft. Gives me less to think about.

I was hoping you would talk about the zombie survival masterpiece Project Zomboid. Default game settings have slow shambling zombies but I really enjoy how they can still be a threat, given the nature of the game with the lack of any sort of cure. All it takes is one sneaky zombie to bit you anywhere and your character is pretty much dead, like other zombie media a bite will be a 100% infection chance so have fun :)
However there is a mod that lets you amputate your arms and hands if you get bit there so there's at least some of a "cure" if you're that desperate to keep a particular character alive

out of all zombie games i have never seen or dealt with zombies so realistic and believable as in resident evil 2 remake the way they move as if an outside force is dragging them along and the terrifying groans and screams and when they get ahold of you you can just feel that they are extremely strong, no game will ever top that not even re3 remakes copy and paste zombies didn't feel as good....... re2 remake was a lighting in a bottle i'll never need another zombie game ever, dead island, dying light those are silly zombie, not scary i hate those games

Honestly I don't like zombies at all. Only zombie games I liked is re4 and dead island. Mayyybe dying light, and that's still a maybe.
3:10 I have to disagree with you there, Resident Evil 4 is not a zombie game.
Let me explain it for you.
Resident Evil 4 is not a Resident Evil game.
It may be labeled "Resident Evil," but it doesn't feel real.
When Shinji Mikami developed this game for the gamecube, he wasn't happy with what he and his team had developed, and he wasn't even happy with the game being ported to other platforms. Shinji Mikami did an interview with one of the creators of Silent Hill where he said. "The game in which I feel that I have the least myself in it" that is, not his real vision for the world to realize (True vision was Resident Evil 3.5), they completely took control of his work, he could not stay any longer, so he left and found another one company - Not that I say Capcom was absolutely perfect at the time because they were already making mistakes before and after when Resident Evil 4 came out.
1. Some Survival-horror elements disappeared and were downgraded just to focus on standalone entertainment and action.
2. The puzzle solving materials have become easier, the only thing that remains (perhaps) difficult is in the place where we take control of Ashley's character, but when the puzzle is solved, a door opens after it, which is a whole priority for the game, in summary, not a big place where it could take us somewhere.
There is also a delay as it appears later until we reach the middle level when we get to the Regenerators, especially with the enemy I mentioned, it's not even scary, it could have been a danger for the first player, but it does not mean that you will be afraid of them later, because everyone who continues the game further, will be aware that such enemies are easy to deal with, if something is easy to kill, it will not be scary at all later on, same can be applied for zombies but...
3. Zombies are a good fact why they should have a place in the Resident Evil series, not only that sometimes it is easy to defeat any enemy but you are still afraid of them, it is simply difficult to measure their attacks and you do not know where they are coming from...It's a lot better than thousands of RPG shooter enemies.
I don't know why you don't notice these? Zombies missing out in any Resident Evil game, considered a false lead to the true aspect of refreshion feel.
4. Top priority and the important story element is killed off-screen. Talking about Umbrella.
Ever since the Code Veronica event happened and the real story ended when Umbrella was still in effect and part of the series just to end with a main character would tell us what happened to the events instead of us knowing more secrets and mysteries so that we could see the end a few episodes later.
I feel sorry for the fans who really wanted to see how the real nightmare ends, Resident Evil 4 just proves that the company is no longer relevant and there are no unquestionable plots unfolding.
When the game first came out, even the living God didn't know how Ada survived that terrible tragedy in the previous installments and who Krauser (who was supposed to be Leon's companion) was, all this was later thankfully proven in the Chronicle series, but it was still better than the nonsensical story of 4.
In the previous Resident Evil game, there was fear and vulnerability in the characters, in the 4th part all this disappeared, since the main character was no longer afraid of the enemies, but rather mocked and made a joke of the game "Is your right hand comes off?" "Monsters. I guess after this there will be one less thing to worry about" - Leon To Salazar.
The main character not only gave humor to some characters, but it was as if they were insulted based on joke questions during the game, for example, when the Spaniards made nasty comments and even the final BOSS had a key to irony, Leon was there to make them not seem scary. Everyone laughed at the jokes, this is starts with "Where is everyone going? Bingo?" at the beginning.
How do you like this Resident Evil game? How can you call this a Resident Evil game? It's impossible for you to prove anything after all since It's the only truth way available.
Wait, that's not all! We ended up in a room in a castle with lava and how long does this place need this ugly mountain formation where we meet U-3, since when does this a thing and a "good" variation of 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻? Not to mention the Island part, which was the least liked and poorly rated by fans of these segments, and this game is still the best Resident Evil game?
The best over-the-shoulder camera game and the first TPS game ever is a lie.
Look at the video game Legend Of Zelda (1986) or even Grand Theft Auto III (2001), which came out before Resident Evil 4.
The criticisms of this game is also bad but not the game itself.
As you read the whole comment bag, under one Resident Evil 4 content, it's just maddening, pointless and tiring, almost always the same and unstoppable, which proves that this game has been overreacted.
I'm sorry, but RE 4 was never revolutionary and never the best game, there were few fans who "loved" the game, there were almost no people who overreacted the game until today, these fans can be called fake or bandwagon because they have no idea about the original games and didn't defend a game that had negative reviews, voicing opinions became popular, as did the trend of criticism, people learned to attack one that is different from the other, especially here on RUclips, which was never invented to turn it into a critical site. Metacritic was really a place for everyone to share their opinions, positive or negative, because that doesn't always happen, but it ruins it for insecure people to play a video game.

Regarding the camera, all that is said is that the games I listed were the ones that people like so much in the later game with a different theme, but the question is how interesting was it? To the extent that people got used to the TPS camera in previous video games, but we are talking about a period where there was no such thing as "Resident Evil 4", that game was planned around 2002, while a trailer was made in 2003, which would have been the creator's dream if it had been possible to finish the works (Shinji Mikami as the creator and director of the first Resident Evil game), the game would only have been a gamecube exclusive, just like the first Remake and the 0th part, since for technical reasons the game could be too big and limited to hardware, the game still had the Fixed Camera Angles, but when our player concentrated on aiming, the camera moved behind the character's back (behind the shoulder).
It can be said that in horror genres such as Resident Evil 4, the introduction of the OTS camera was initiated, but we cannot say that they planned this from the beginning in history , and now it's a bit of a bummer when I say that the developer and other people at Capcom didn't find it impressive and didn't think it would be interesting for people... I think it's better if people and the mainstream stop constantly educating the game and finally talk about the positivity of the following Resident Evil games, which received too many negative reviews, such as Resident Evil 5 and 6.
