Mixing vocals well is critical to making your song sound pro. But that doesn't mean you have to spend hours just to get them right.
In fact, today I'm starting a series of videos all on how to mix each element of your song quickly - in just 10 minutes to be exact!
And to kick us off I want to show you how to mix your lead vocals fast. In this video, I'll show you how to get a polished, clear, and upfront vocal sound with your stock plugins!
Follow these tried and true techniques and your vocals will come out sounding great every time.
Very nice Graham! I am an almost 60 years old sound engineer, grammy winner, and despite my large experience I always come to your page to get some fresh ideas, thank you a lot!
Much appreciation for the kind words and support!
Great comment 👍 👌 👏
Graham thank you again!
Wow, cool. What did you win the Grammy for? Congratulations, that’s quite an achievement :)
I was ready to go to a professional studio after lots of failed recording attempts by my self, but after binging through this channel for weeks I can tell what I've been doing wrong and now I'm confident that I can do it right! Thank you Graham
i took the course under Graham recordingrevolution, in less than a year I was able to produce this song in very less budget.

thanks so much
in my case, i always thought filling the vocals with effects is better. but... it ended up puffing my ear drums by trying to sound better because no matter what i do it sounded dry... 😂 but after some time, i finally got it somehow but still needs improvement. 😂 😁
How are you going now?
I miss you Graham. You are an awesome singer!
You're the best Graham, so inspiring!
This is the best explanation of how to setup a compressor that I have seen!
Great video, thanks, Graham. Your tutorials are among the best: no fancy secret tools, but essential and important stuff straight to the point. I like your music taste and style: great song, sound, and singing!
Thank you so much Graham for so generously sharing your wisdom, knowledge and mindset. It has really helped us become familiar with the language and principles of home recording and enabled us to translate this to our own unique setup and situation and start publishing weekly results on our channel.
Damn, that delay just made the vocals fit perfectly with the song! Amazing!
Bruh if I get big I'm shouting you out 😂

I like what you do. You show me new things to try out in my mixes & you also remind me of things that I'm not doing that I should be doing. Plus you videos are entertaining as well.
Hey Graham, diggin the echo boy settings, gonna have grab that! You were the first person to teach me about stacking compressors on the vocal, it's one of my favorite things to do. Also, I love the Graham Cochrane podcast. You've really encouraged me to try and build my channel on Audio mixing
So awesome! Love it.
I've learned so many tips and tricks from this channel with all aspects of audio editing including tips and ticks for recording, mixing, and mastering various instruments and vocals. Great videos and great content as always.
I'd love to see more videos by you on acoustic vocals! I like your explanations, but I lean towards acoustic vocals and would find it illustrative to see an example with a vocal for an acoustic mix (especially with piano)!
the finished example is worth listening to this video for. Thank you Graham
great this helped a lot and made my understanding of compressors more of an understanding rather than an arbitrary instinct of noobie proportions idk.
Nice! I think stacking the compressors is an interesting idea. Something I’m going to try. I thought that it made the vocals here sound a little too crispy at first. Ut when you added the Echoboy, it made sense. The grit underneath it fits this song nicely.
No matter that you've covered this so many times. But this is still really helpful and still slightly different then other times you've explained
Thank you Graham. I love the song too!
Vocals are difficult to get right... thank you for explaining this in such a clear and simple way!
Great Stuff :)
Wondering if you can do (or have done) a video about what "bad vocals" sounds like?
What should i listen to when recording an artist to make sure that im getting a "good vocal" track? (aside from room treatment ofcourse)
I think i have a good general sense for the major EQ areas and their affect, but aside from telling the difference between a mic that is situated above the singer's head from a mic that is staring at their belly, i dont really know what to listen to XD
Thanks!
Great staff as always! I really appreciate this new series of 10 minute mixes. Keep doing a great work!

That Echoboy settings really sounds great on that "But you don't know what's it's really like" part. A bit too much in the beginning.
Great stuff mate! Are you going to also do, how to mix background vocals in 10 minutes? Thank you. I purchased Graham Cochran Mixing University... great, great course.
Nice tutorials. Please whats the name of the Eq and the compressor used
Awesome Job great content
Great Video!
I like that bass line

It's AMAZING treaks
Can you do another home recording studio tour video? Just for inspiration.
It is always interesting 😊👍
Thank you
Hello my dear, please I need you to help me with this some of studio devices to start learning about music making, for I really like this work, thank you very much for your sincerely offer May God richly blessed you this year amen
But once you do the "cuts" on the EQ vocal you lose that thicker sound (sounds tinny) - so then how do you restore the vocal to sound more beefy and thick? Add a 2nd EQ ?
About reference tracks for vocals: When to know you have a good, clean vocal recording ??? What to compare it with?? ... Any suggesitons for a clean vox reference track/s please ?? (With no other instruments..)
As usual, great, crisp and useful movie. Thanks Graham.
Top hit tracks? They often have good quality.
Will Pro Tools Intro work fine?
...... sooooo!... what did you do with the doubles?... thanks for what you did show
Hey @Graham! When you say you record the raw vocal track using a mic & pre-amp straight in to PT, - do you mean the pre-amp built into you interface(?) Or do you use an external or additional tube pre-amp or something like that in the chain?
Hey can make a tutorial on how to record and mix rap or rnb music Thanks
Hi Graham, do you do mixing outside of your own work and recordings? Great video here!
What kinda mic and preamp and compression did you use. And did you record in a controlled sound room. Sounds really clean of the start.
What a catchy song!! Question: Was it a mere artistic decision to keep the vocals completely mono? And how would the circumstances have to be different to decide on a wider sound?
i took the course under Graham recordingrevolution, in less than a year I was able to produce this song in very less budget.
ruclips.net/video/LtSSuPYcQI0/видео.html
thanks so much
Is this before or after the static mix?
Can you release this song please.its 🔥❤️
What microphone and Pre did you use?
Sounds good. What Mic?
you are super
Hello bro in Christ... Which DAW do you use more? Pro tools or Studio one? Not a Vs thing but just being curious. Thank you
Stage name?
Got one question. Is it possible to use your settings in most mixes and it could sound right?
I hate compressors. They kill the dynamics. Its something invited by radio stations to always have the music loud. But music doesn't have to be always loud. Music has dynamics. Vocals without those dynamics sound unnatural. But I like the channel anyway, cause it gives some great tips, even if you wanna use those comercial compressors concept.
song?
what song is this???
Hi Graham, question : does it make a difference (CPU wise) to use a 7 band EQ rather than a 3 band EQ. I'm asking since I have noticed that you usualy adjust 3 bands for vocals. Thanks for everything you do, very useful!
I don't believe so.
