Thank you Mr. Backwoods for bringing back lots of childhood memories . I can't tell you how much time I've spent on the Chesapeake Bay with a chicken leg on a string, a net and 5 gallon bucket crabbing . :)
That's the way I used to do it too (back chicken wings were cheap and you could get 10lbs of them at Winn Dixie for $2.50). I would tie a hand net onto the end of a broom handle and go to town:)
Awesome! I like how you chilled them to make them easy to handle. They can be feisty little bastards. LOL! I went blue crabbing with a friend years ago and he was using a light and a net. Then you have to get the pissed off crabs out of the net and hopefully into the bucket. Drop one in the bottom of the boat, and you better watch out!! LOL!! Good job! Made me hungry... again!
I never knew you had to have all your details on the crab pot interesting !! ooh no I wouldn't eat that mess stuff from the inside. That bag is is peppercorns ? or ?r great blue crab cookin !! love your crab cake balls full of nice ingredients and like the chunky crab pieces yummy yummy !! love the plate deco too !! looks restaurant style
The seasoning bag has lots of different things like bay leaf, cayenne pepper, coriander seed, peppercorns and a bunch of others. Sold in the seafood section of groceries over here.
I've never made crab cakes with so many ingredients. I am going to try it though. Always open to trying new things especially when they involve blue crabs! We make pasta sauce with pre cleaned crab bodies . Basically just clean them, sautee in olive oil and garlic, add to sauce and slow cook for 4 hours plus. Cool down, refrigerate and heat up the next day. Use on pastas, pizza with crab etc. Possibilities are only limited by ones imagination.
The last time I cleaned a mess of blue crabs for the freezer I pulled the top shell off from the side with one hand while holding the legs with the other hand. By the time I was done I had some nasty cuts. Your way is much better. Lesson learned.
If all you had was Old Bay and Florida Everglades seasoning, you would basically need nothing else for seafood spicing ( but don't limit yourself) just saying how good they are. That was a lot of pick from just 4 crabs...impressive. Those cakes are awesome too of course :). So the storm repairs went ok I take it. I didn't have any thankfully other than massive clean up.
My favorite Maryland crab seasoning is JO Crab seasoning. They have many varieties. I've not had Everglades seasonings but look forward to it as I have heard nothing but great things about it.
Could they be grilled over a campfire and if so, what would be a good way to season them? edit: thanks for sharing ave I'm glad you recovered your camera!
@ 11:17 you said "crab leg pecker". Is that the secret to crab cakes? Can you get that at Wal-Mart? Sounds like it might have a little wang to it though. LOL
Bummer on the camera. Was it waterproof? Hang on to those GPS coords and video a scuba camera recovery! Good looking crab cakes... Was that a #5 skillet..
Camera was not waterproof. I have a gopro that is but is sucks at picking up audio. My camera is in pieces on my bar right now drying. Was in rice for 2 days. We will see. Did those onions in the Bass Pro Duck Lodge skillet. No number on that, but a great pan.
Got it, thanks. I always like seeing any cast iron in action. Lodge made that pan in a #5 and #8. It's part of the wildlife series. Bass, Deer, Dog and Mallard. All are very collectable and USEABLE.! I use everything I collect and it looks like you do as well. Keep turing out those videos...
Nope - lump steamed meat only. you had too many breadcrumbs. Just crab and some binder for a buttery meat and a slightly crisp exterior. No one ever says lets get some Carolina or Lousiana crab cakes - but you do hear Let's get some Maryland Crab cakes. That meat is all mashed together and looks like tuna now 😞 you had the freshest of crab and ruined it...
Sounds like you were here to taste the final product..... Please do a video of how to do this perfectly including catching your crabs and send me a link so I can learn how to do it right.

Thank you Mr. Backwoods for bringing back lots of childhood memories . I can't tell you how much time I've spent on the Chesapeake Bay with a chicken leg on a string, a net and 5 gallon bucket crabbing . :)
That is the way I grew up doing it also. Trid some hand lines that day, but little fish kept eating the bait. Thanks for watching.

That's funny, so chickenmeat does work.
Enjoyed the boat ride and the cooking. Crab cakes looked fine thanks for sharing.

I was hoping you wold show how to get the meat out of them. Love your teachings. Thank you and God bless.
We will try to do that when we get so more.

I don't know how you do it...some things you cook I normally wouldn't like. But everything you make looks absolutely delicious! Keep it up!
Nice video, I love crab
"Cracked Black Pecker" I died XD
Great recipe, I have never done the first bit, boiling in spice and seasoning that would certainly notch up the flavor, Thank you😊
Awesome video as usual!!!
I have never eaten blue crab 🦀 but that looks amazing 😋
I'm not a crab person but my parents love it. Aint it better to set the traps at night?
They look delicious!
It is way better to leave them overnight, but I didn't want to drive back to pick it up.

I Love Cooking Them Whole, That's How We Do It In MD,
thanks!
You can't get anything this good, even in a restaurant.
With a little help from Backwoods Gourmet, you can eat like this at home!
Thanks for watching.
Really enjoy this channel, thanks for sharing.

I'm a pretty good crab picker, but it took me an hour to pick 4 crabs and 8 claws. Thanks for watching.

Nice video
12:20. Could someone turn on the lights?
Wonder how they taste compared to the ones up here in Oregon.
I love those Dungeness crabs. These are sweeter but obviously not as much meat.
If y’all want crab cakes come down to south Louisiana. Can’t be beat.
Oh and btw that mess from the inside goes in chowder/soup and is very good in this way.
Could they be grilled over a campfire and if so, what would be a good way to season them?
edit: thanks for sharing ave I'm glad you recovered your camera!
Recovered the camera and saved the footage, but the camera is DRT. ( Dead right there)
Hello, do you need to remove those barnacles on the crab before cooking or do they add flavor??
I don't think a few barnacles affect it at all. Thanks for watching
All that's missing is the hush puppies.
Gourmet travel salad
Krack Black Pecker!!! LOL
@ 11:17 you said "crab leg pecker". Is that the secret to crab cakes? Can you get that at Wal-Mart? Sounds like it might have a little wang to it though. LOL
I don't doubt that. Try saying "cracked black pepper" a few times and you might find yourself saying the same thing.
The main reason that I wanted to see.from y
I'm so glad you didn't put the bell pepper in the mix. It is all you taste instead of the crab 🦀!
Mrs. Backwoods hates bell peppers, so I don't use them much. I love em'.
Had a case of crabs once...
TMI Good morning.
A case or a bushel. Pretty sure it was a bushel
Scuttle Dog, me too, haven't been camping back to Mount Dorr since!
