    In my country of New Zealand, we are protected from stuff like this happening with our consumers guarantee act. An item has to be advertised properly and has to have everything advertised on it or it is classed as false and misleading. If a device does not have, what was it advertised, you can request a refund for the full price, even years later after finding that they false advertised. We have that model TCL C755 here too so TCL are taking a huge risk over here if they are misleading customers. Also, in our country in the consumers guarantee act, a new TV or new device has to last for a reasonable time frame without that item breaking down (What a reasonable time frame is in years can be debatable) but I have seen people push the boundaries for TVs over 5 years old and getting warranty fixes claiming 5 years isn't a reasonable time frame for it to break down. Extended Warranties over here are a waste of time because of this but the electronic stores selling TVs etc still try to sell them to customers who are not aware of the consumers guarantees act which protects them anyway.

    Tandem OLED actually has me very excited for OLED. If an OLED can hit 500 nits to 1000 nits on a 100% full white screen, it will be almost endgame. At that point, mproving it further comes down to driver boards annd refresh rates.
    If you could subfield drive an OLED with 480hz that would mean 2ms of image persistence, and the picture would have that brightness.
    I would absolutely buy a 32 inch 1440p or 4k panel with a 480hz refresh rate if it had tandem OLED with 1000 nits full field.

    I just bought an 85 C755 here in Costa Rica for $2000 (a month ago), and yes, you are right, I never cared about the QD branding.
    My second option was a 77 S90D for $5000 (but that's too overpriced). I just wanted to upgrade the size without losing so much from my previous theater room TV (LG G2). So, I valued the price, panel brightness, dimming zones, contrast, and compatibility (DV, HDR+, DOLBY, and DTS) more than the "QD" branding. Of course, the blacks will never be at the level of my G2, but for my theater room conditions, I think the size and the brightness are more important.
    So, imagine that for a normal consumer, the QD branding will mean nothing.

    Ars Technica has an article about the TCL quantum dot controversy that states that less expensive QLED LCD TVs could use a mix of quantum dots and phosphor to convert blue light into red and green light, but this results in worse brightness, color gamut, and color purity than using pure quantum dots for color conversion. This could lead to TCL being right about the presence of quantum dots and not committing false advertising despite having quantum dots at undetectably low concentrations. Another possibility raised in the article is that quality control failed to catch displays without quantum dots. However, if I link to the article, the anti spam filter might falsely nuke my post as spam.

Those speakers (when paired with a supporting new FlexConnect enabled TV or one with an aftermarket transponder device) will allow you to effectively do this exact same thing with the flexibility to "grow as you go". With FlexConect, once you have a FlexConnect enabled TV, you can go out and by one, three or even fifteen wireless speakers that you can add to your TV setup as you like. Those speakers are likely to see from anywhere from $75 on up to $400 depending on how big, fancy and powerful you need/want them to be. For MINILED, we're already there as far as the top TVs like QM7 - diminishing returns from QM7 to QM8 to Bravia 9 for most movie/streaming/sports content. Remember it's all about the content and if content is graded way below 1000 nits as currently then it's pointless for a TV to perform beyond where they are now. Obviously we expect future HDR content to exceed 2000 nits of specular highlight but that's still years off. Would be nice if OLED full screen can be above 500 nits (twice current brightness) and I think that's more than good enough for future movies to support bright HDR

    Always enjoy your industry news Mr. Fomo. Most non-enthusiasts don't care about quantum dots, they just want the biggest bang for their buck. If the Hisense Saturn system sounds good I think that if it includes a decent sub then $600-$700 would be a good price to get a good start of taking market share away in this non-soundbar space. But the system would have to sound good enough.

    infighting between LG display and Samsung display is going to result in both of them going the way of the dodo and Chinese OLED companies will have a monopoly. It's depressing because we need real competition

    • @kendil22
      @kendil22 2 месяца назад +3

      LG and Samsung display competing is the only reason they aren't charging $5000 for a 55'' tv. You want competitors to fight it out to keep prices down. Neither one is going anywhere, every year they get better at making the same display for less money.

    • @WilliamSmith-hf8um
      @WilliamSmith-hf8um 2 месяца назад +1

      @@kendil22 Right but the issue is that it's no longer just an LG vs Samsung market. Chinese government is putting lots of money into OLED, and if things continue this way, companies like BOE will win all of LG and Samsungs customers in a surprisingly short amount of time, meanwhile LG and Samsung are fighting eachother! The Korean government should step in and make them merge or something

      @@WilliamSmith-hf8um LG and Samsung display merging is a terrible idea. And since they aren't located in a communist run country forcing them to merge would be illegal. The correct response that will probably occur at some point is countries will put a tariff (thereby raising the price) on Chinese made tv's to keep them from dumping cheap panels and level the playing field. Which would be the correct response, not some hair brained idea of making lg and Samsung display merge.

      @@kendil22 I'm not saying the government should force them, I'm saying they need to be pragmatic. Then Actually still ORDER-LOWEST end product that Chinese will NOT use (main stream ppl born 80s n later like premium). They whole sale buy things those Elders buy, jack up prices in USA. Samsung is upset because they’re the weakest TV brand of the big companies in quality of product and are more comparable to TCL. Like Samsung has the image processing maybe of a Sony TV from 2016. They’re drastically behind LG and not even really comparable to Sony and Panasonic.
    Their problem is if you look at a Samsung which isn’t very well tuned and doesn’t have the great processing, why wouldn’t you look at a most likely superior TCL product at the same price point? Sure it won’t be the most polished product around, but Samsung doesn’t make polished products. Which means TCL is a direct threat.
